Hello guys,

I have a 6700 from the Telus network and Im looking to hook it up to the Bell mobility network.
The sales person at Bell tells me that its not possible and I have to buy one from them (of course!!), since my Telus unit is programmed only for Telus.

Has anyone switched their unit between carriers? Is it possible?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

THanks

N

I am looking to do the same. So far I have been able to find that the phone will change network (if and only if) you get a willing person at Bell to hook it up. HOWEVER the data component will not work over at Bell which seems amazing as I do not believe the hardware is at all different.

I believe if the data part is crucial to you you will need to download the firmware from utstarcom and find a way to crowbar it onto your phone.

I will not have this hassle as I have no use for the data plans any telco offers. To me it is simply a phone with some added features.

Good luck, Glenn

Hey Glenn,
Thanks for info. That is great to hear. The real situation is that I had an extra Telus 6700 that I just gave to a buddy of mine who has a bell account. He just wants to use this 6700 on the bell networks as a cellphone only. He doenst need the data capabilities.

Bell is telling him that they cant do it. Telus wont activate a new plan for him unless he buys the data package which he doenst want.

any guidance would be appreciated!

Plan B for me will be to flog my phone on ebay (where I bought it for CHEEP ) and buy a bell 6700. I doubt if I will have to tho as I belive that once you make it clear to a phone company that you are not a willing hostage they will make an effort to get your business. I think one key is make sure they know how little the phone is worth to you, as long as they suspect its tossup between selling it or beating it to bits on utube you can get co-operation.
