Find your TruPhone Password!! (ie: for Fring) tested on N95

Just thought I'd let everyone know how to find your TruPhone password to use with Fring or any other SIP software...

I've just tested this out and it DOES work with fring!

I used Y-Browser to search the C: drive of my N95 for *.set (since I read that there are 2 install files for truphone - TruWiz.sisx (the Wizard) and truphone.set (settings file)) and found it in C:\System\dmgr\10008d39\contents. I transferred it to my laptop via bluetooth and opened it in notepad and found my User Name (you can see this on your N95 by going to Tools->Settings->Connection->Sip Settings->(choose any TruPhone profile (Home, office or travel)->Proxy Server). When you find your user name in the txt file look to the right of it and find a 10 character (in my case it was 10 characters, yours might be different? that was a 9 characters and 1 number on the end) string, to the right of that you should see truphone.com.

This 10 character string is the password I used for entering into SIP settings in Fring and it worked! For the proxy server I used truphone.com

So again, the username is the same that you find in your phone, not your registration user name and password is that found from truphone.set

Email if you have questions.

Thanks that worked for me and the call quality seems better via fring

This is interesting....

I tried it, but when i tried to send the .set file via bluetooth to my pc, i always get a "Sending Failed" message.

any ideas? anyone?

Cheers,
Will

Actually i found a work around. Rather than transferring the .set file from the phone, I was able to download it from the truphone website (as if i just wanted to reload the lastest software).

Got the 10 digit code...now time to install this to fring.....

I tried to do everything as described by Merlz but cannot login to SIP from Fring. from FRING, i go to Select>Settings>Configure services>SIP. For the SIP service name, I chosed 'Other'. Then I followed Merlz's instructions

User ID: (obtained from Tools->Settings->Connection->Sip Settings->(choose any TruPhone profile (Home, office or travel)->Proxy Server

Password: (obtained from .set file which I received from truphone when I wanted to download / update truphone on my phone. I received the .set file and the truphone installation file 2.15)

Proxy Address: truephone.com

But i cannot login and get the error message "Please enter your user id and password".

can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong?

thanks!
Will

Do I understand it that you're doing this so you can point Fring application at truphones servers because it doesn't require WLAN unlike truphone.

Otherwise what is the advantage of using truphone sip settings from the Fring client?

Do you know if you must have already had a Truphone sip setting verification for the truphone.set file to exist? I suspect you do since I haven't been able verify any of my sip settings yet in the wizard and I don't have that file.

Actually Truphone doesn't require WLAN either. They only support WLAN connections, true, but if you go and manually edit the SIP settings, you can actually use 3G/EDGE. I've tried it and it works, though of course not as well as when I use WLAN. I also haven't been able to get Fring to work with 3G/EDGE, for some reason, though I know others have.

I don't understand the advantage of using Truphone via Fring either.

So if I've got a sip configuration that is currently not registered can it be registered over GPRS? If so how? If I change the access point to GPRS I'm told "internet telephone service not available"

update; strangely enough when I look for internet tele settings it tells me i'm connected to truvoip

I got this from here.

(Please be aware that Truphone are not currently supporting connection via GPRS/3G. Thus far our product has only been tested on Wi-Fi, and no plans are currently
in place to support other technologies.)

However – some users have reported successful GPRS/3G connections and sounds like you are doing everything right. It may be that your operator is blocking VoIP.

If they are not, and VoIP IS allowed on your network (please check with your operator) you can try changing either your transport type or port.

1. To do this please navigate to Menu->Tools->Settings->Connection->SIP settings
2. Select the SIP profile to modify (Truphone- Travel)
3. Navigate to 'Proxy server' and click to enter
4. Navigate to 'Transport type' and change to TCP or Navigate to ‘Port’ and change to ‘5062’
5. Select 'Back'
6. Navigate to 'Registrar server'
7. Navigate to 'Transport type' and change to TCP or Navigate to ‘Port’ and change to ‘5062’
8. Select 'Back' and exit to main screen
9. Turn your handset off and on. It will then re-attempt registration

Worked for me!

Just a few questions as I work through this process.

My 'true' truphone userid is a 7-digit numeric string. Is that what everyone else has?

My password is more problematic. Unlike an earlier poster, mine is not ten digits, and does not end in a '1'. Mine appears to be 13 digits long. The first and last characters are an accented character. Perhaps those are delimiters? The accented character is the immediately next character after my truphone id.

I assume that fring needs the proxy address of 'sip:truphone.com'

Can any confirm any of this?

Thanks!

TruPhone 3.0 changes the password. My Fring settings stopped working after upgrading to Truphone 3.0.

Truphone has upgrades the application to version 3.0 and changed the password. I have now lost my Fring connection.

Anyone know how to get the password ?

The option to download via the PC from truphone website has been removed!

Thanks,

Ray

The option to download the sisx file is still on their website, go to the downloads page and there is a link for it. I downloaded it yesterday that way, it only gets the sisx file though and then installs it. I haven't been able to install the application though as the SMS reply portion of the install keeps failing for me, I'm guessing cause I'm on roaming in Alaska and it's taking too long to get the reply back from the server. Anyone else have this issue?

When I get it working I'll see if I can find a way to get the password working as it has to be in a user configurable file somewhere on the phone.

Cheers,
Merlz

Here is another way to get the user name and the password for truphone. It does not involve any hacking of your cell phone. I used it on my Nokia N95-3 (not hacked)

You will need
1. a computer running windows
2. micro-sd card
3. micro-sd card reader on your computer
4. parse_backup.exe (you can download it from here http://www.anseko.com/parsebackup.html )
5. patience

OK, let's start.
1. install truphone software on the phone, it will create a sip profile for you.
2. create your own sip profile, does not matter which one (you are not going to use it as a sip service, you will use it as a reference). Say, let's do
username: my_user_name
registar: my_registar
proxy: my_proxy
password: my_super_password
3. go to Tools>Utilities>Memory and make backup of your memory to sd-card
4. put sd-card to the PC reader and copy Backup/Backup.arc to your PC
5. put parse_backup to the same folder together with Backup.arc
6. start parse_backup.exe and make you coffee
7. drink your coffee slowly as the process takes about an hour
8. when parsing is done, use your favorite file manager to find the file that contains the string "my_super_password". Open this file and find the string "my_super_password". In this file you will find all the sip settings from your cell phone. Look at how your own sip profile is stored and then read the settings for truphone in the same file. Done.
