Wifi on N95 dropping out

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey

Had my N95 a few days now.

I'm having some problems with the Wifi connection.

The Wifi appears to drop in and out.

If I download a large file (podcast) it stops downloading and then a few seconds later it starts up again.

Browsing the net is a also a bit stop/start.

I have set off a large file download and am viewing the "Active connections"

The status flicks between "Conn. (inactive)" and "Conn. (active)" every 5-10secs

The whole time the signal strength remains "Strong 100%"

Any ideas?

Do you have any issues with your wireless router and other wifi enabled devices? So far my N95's wifi connection has been as solid as my previous wifi enabled Nokias.....E61, N80ie......

I am not at all sure whether this will work as I didn't test this and I don't have wifi router.

But give it a shot.

In Settings > Connection > Wireless LAN > Options > Advanced Settings > Power saving > Disabled

I think Nokia wanted to save some battery life by enabling this feature. Try this and let me know.

(Don't blame me if it doesn't work!! )

Interesting but I was unable to find this option setting on my N95 from flagship store.

This is exactly correct. And my phone is from the NYC Flagship store.

You mean you don't have that option on your phone?? Are you sure?

Mine is APAC firmware and I have that option.

Mine gives a big fat warning before you go into advanced options then it allows you. Does yours at least offer you the option to alter the Tx Power Level?

greenteeth, do you think the frequent disconnection of wifi is due to this power saving setting?

My MIF doesnt have this option either.

Mine is APAC and reacts like Green's version -- after the warning it lets you edit the advanced settings ---

and yup, it seems to have solved my disconnect problems, at the expense of pumping out more juice -- fine by me :-D

Hahaha I had no idea these settings existed until I read this thread.

My device works great via infrastructure or ad-hoc with power saving enabled. I thought about changing it, but figured if it ain't broke, don't fix.

Wifi related, should the signal be above 50% medium to get a stable connection?

Posted by: sunilvarma

Does adhoc work with N95?

Yes it does.

Posted by: sunilvarma

Thats nice, now can someone help me choose between a WiFi router connection and a simple adhoc connection?

I neither have a wifi router nor a usb wireless adapter. I don't really need a WiFi network at my home (I don't have any WiFi enabled devices except my N95). So is a simple adhoc network better in my case or should I go get a router?

Thanks

Same here. I was having crappy wifi connections, disabled power save, and now it's working great.

yeah, disabling the power save helps alot

Hi. I've got a granite N95 here in the UK. For those that say the option is not present in your phone. You need to disable automatic configuration before the option for power save appears.

Should of posted earlier..

Set "power saving" to disabled and my Wifi connections have been rock solid since.

Thanks

Anyone kind enough to answer my question??
