P800 tips and Krussell Horizontal Case

Well the P800 sucked me back into black hole that is mobile-phone addiction (stupid of me to think I'd ever recover)

Just thought I'd post some tips that work for me.. many of you already know these but for those who aren't quite in the know these may help:

Save battery life. Turn off GPRS when not in use:

Like the T68i, you can turn off GPRS when you don't need it to save battery life. Go to Internet Accounts and on the Other Tab, under preferred mode, select GSM only. You'll see the triangle shut off... Don't worry, when you need wap or real internet access via (internet2 or 3) GPRS *will* kick in... it's an old battery saving carryover trick from the T68i days...

One click, weather and showtimes:

Go to your favorite weather, showtime site and do a query for your zip code, state, etc. When it gives you a result, simply bookmark the results page.

Now whenever you go to that site from Opera, it will give you the latest showtimes, weather for whatever day you happen to be checking. -No need to go to the main page and retype in your zipcode and state again.. I keep showtimes for my two most frequent cities available... Better than a newspaper or calling..

Note: T-Mobile users, I found that if you use T-Mobiles mobile accelator page that it *caches* information for a day or so... so you may not be looking at the most recent results.. I pulled up showtimes, expecting today's showtimes and instead got yesterdays... As a result, I turned T-Mobiles mobile accelerator option *off*...

Easier tasks handling:

If you're like me you have *tons* of tasks... To make it easier to seperate the current ones from the ones that you plan to do in the future, create an ACTIVE or CURRENT folder (I prefer Active)... Keep all your tasks due for that day in that folder... that way, you can focus on just the current/active tasks... and don't get overwhelmed by all the undated/unfiled stuff cluttering up the screen.

If you need to rebuild....

When you first get your P800... first setup WAP/GPRS/MMS/Email access (thanks to Bengalboy for doing this for us!) Then backup your device.... (don't install any apps or sync any contacts yet) Call this backup P800-New...or whatever. Now you have a great starting point if you ever want to start with a "fresh" P800 and install new apps, etc. but don't want to redo all your settings... Just makes sense...

Finally... I found a place that carries the Krussell Horizontal cases if anyone's interested

Just check the path to this pic and you'll find them. I already received mine... looks more like the 7650 case but it fits well...

Thanks for those useful tips. I also purchased the Krusell horizontal case. It seems pretty good, except that I really have to tug on the top to get it to close properly. It might fit better if I remove the keyboard, or maybe I just need to wait until it stretches out better.

Thanx especially for the the gprs battery saving tip and the link to the horizontal case. I think I'll get one of those.
This might sound stupid but any reason for the hole at the bottom?

Posted by: zerowind

Scotteeboy... It's definitely a tight fit at first. In fact I purposely stuffed stuff in the case to "stretch it" out... for a few days before I used it... didn't want to risk the "flip-induced cracked screen syndrome" But I found that after about a week or so of use, the snap closes without having to pull it... even with the flip on.

Varunreddy, the hole is to make extraction of your P800 easier ... Just push a finger up and out it comes... (or it could be just to show off what kind of phone you're hiding in there

I just ordered the Krussel horizontec case from executivepada. They told me they are expecting their first shipment sometime this coming week.

Zerowind

Sorry if this sounds trivial, but how do you turn off T-mobile's accelerator? I tried looking for this option in the phone but couldn't find it.

Thanks!

Sonusfaber,

You actually have to go to their website to configure this (from your P800)

The url is: http://getmorespeed.t-mobile.com and select the "don't use accelerator option" then hit Submit..

Note... I think this may only be available for those using an internet2 or vpn (internet3) plan... It *may* not apply to Wap only subscribers but I'm not sure...

two things:
1. I looked in the book and couldn't quite understand what the functional difference was between AUTOMATIC and GSM-ONLY on preferred mode.

I understand that GSM-ONLY cuts off GPRS constant connection unless it's needed. However, is there any benefit to AUTOMATIC over GSM-ONLY (is it a slightly slower reconnection due to having to connect GPRS too, or the fact that the connection dialog box is mandatory)?

The book says that GPRS is suspended for the duration of a phone call when AUTOMATIC is in use. What happens when GSM-ONLY is in use?

Finally, how much real battery power is used when GPRS is connected but not in use?

2. The horizontal case looks good.

However, I'm worried about the exposure that the phone gets through that bottom hole. The whole point is to prevent my phone from being exposed to the elements. A huge gap on the bottom of the case kind of defeats that purpose, doesn't it?

I haven't noticed any difference in battery life when using the GSM only setting as opposed to the Automatic setting.

I'd like to get that case, but don't know how to "follow the path to the picture" How do I do that?

Right click on the picture and click ocopy image location (or its equivalnet in your browser) and then paste it in the url and remove the part after .com. In this case it is http://www.razzy.com/

I just received my Krussel P800 Case. In my own opinion, its far below my own expectation. After reading several comments in this forum, I have a high expectation on this case. Before using decided to buy this case, Im using exactly the same as Krussel Horizontal Case. The case is made in China and I bought it for US$5 in Indonesia.
Now, Im back to my China Made horizontal case. This case is originally design for Nokia 7650.

thanks. its all my own opinion.
