WM6 device will no longer turn off display? Only dim

My HTC S710 started acting weird, it will no longer turn off the screen. It used to do so, but now it only dims after 10 secs (my setting) but does not turn off the screen after 30 seconds.

I had Smart2go installed (free GPS software), which is a beta made for WM5, I thought that might had screwed up something, but even after I restored the registry with a backup from BEFORE the smart2go install, it still does not turn off the screen.

Any ideas? I would really prefer NOT to do a master reset

Other than that - GREAT PHONE!

(Just weird why none of the 2 LED's can't be used for notifications, like it would blink orange or something on TyTN if there's new messages)...

Did you check the settings for display timeout?

Yeah I've been playing with those for the past few hours. Nothing there, doesn't matter if its on battery or power.

Set the display to dim after 10 secs and turn off after 30 secs - but it only dims.

Tried to mess around in regedit after doing some reading here:

But I'm not sure about the settings though.

Hmm, did you try a reset? Did you remove the GPS software?

What kind of reset? I tried several reboots if thats what you mean.

I also tried to remove the GPS software yes, but no help.

If nobody comes with a good suggestion, then I'm affraid a master reset is necessary Then back to setting it up from the scratch again and install all my programs, contacts and calendar

Yup, definately Smart2Go GPS software causing it. I went ahead and did a master reset, and after that - the screen worked as it should. After installing Smart2Go as only thing, it was back to being screwed.

Will see if I can modify regedit enough to make it still work with smart2go, but I doubt it...

Edit: apparently it's a no go. After my master reset, I made a backup of the registry database, before I installed smart2go on it. Even upon doing a restore, it will not turn off the display. I suppose it might be a process (not visible for taskmanager), that makes the display stay always-on. It's not even possible to fix it, by removing smart2go again. Seems like master reset is the only solution....
