My previous 8500 that I got last November froze up on me and I took it to the verizon store and had it replaced last night with a new one. Now when I hook up to bitpim and try to add an image or restore my previous brew or anything I get a "an unexpected exception has occurred" It will not let me do anything. I hooked up my wifes chocolate that she got last November also and i can transfer files and stuff on hers. Does my chocolate have some new type of firmware that is not letting me run bitpim? My previous and my wifes chocolate was the 2nd gen chocolate that had speakerphone on it(v4). I think the lady at verizon said this is a v6 or something. Any help how to be able to use bitpim again appreciated.

Verizon is setting up their phones to break them from the use of bitpim. then when you use it and they find out**DO NOT LET THEM KNOW THAT YOU USED BITPIM!** THEY WILL refuse to help you. it is all about profit. but ya,do a search and you will find that firmware. but it might be too complex for you to do alone.

Got my 8500 chocolate in early April, and having just the same problem.
Looked around, and found this page http://www.tbns.net/knotghlon/index.htm which gives software and 'how to's to unlock the phone. But Dam... it still wont work right.
Hope you find the way, and if you do, please share...

by the way, how do you know if my 8500 is v4 or v6??

Thank you, best luck.

you can look in your settings for software version in your phone and it will tell you

How did you get your phone replaced; did you have insurance? The screen on my 8500 just broke and they told me it would either be $50 to get a new 8500 or retail price if I want a different phone.
