So...This was odd.

Had a guy come in with a bitter hatred of his 8525 and wanted something else to get him away from it. Okay, got him landed on a phone and he said great, he can now take this out to the parking lot and run over it.

So I say jokingly, instead of that I'll take it.

So he hands it to me and says have at it, you can probably get more use out of it than I can.

Free 8525.

Happens to me all the freaking time. Customer activates a new line and already has a phone, I get my choice of phones and all I pay for it the new act price. But free is better. What did he end up getting?

Be careful with that one. If they go to cancel service and they are told they need to return their equipment, what would you do then?

I hold all of them for our 30 day return period(because I had this happen, lucklily I had sold the phone to a colleague so I was able to reaquire it). So yes I know exactly what your talking about.

A 3125.

I find that hilarious.

He just hated the 8525 and wanted something more along the lines of a "phone" and not a PDA.

Kinda banged up 8525, but that's what XBM is for.

And why is it that COR is so much better?

Lets not turn this thread into that particular conversation.

Posted by: dm919

I am saying that drewyehboi is making it perfectly clear that he is stealing not only from Cingular, but from his customers as well. Not saying agents are better than COR, this is just another mark against agent locations.

Posted by: elushon

just another mark?

COR has just as many marks...Again, lets leave it alone and let this thread fall down the page and off to forgotten about land.

Wait I'm curious how was he stealing if the customer gave him the device?

no he was talking about Drewyehboi.

Drew said that when customers come in to sign a new contract, but already have an unlocked phone, he will take a pick at subsidized priced phones for himself.

It is somewhat illegitimate considering he probably refrains from telling the client that he/she can pick out a free/subsidized phone for backup.

It's also just plain stupid...if that's what he is doing. Does he realize that he is stealing form his company and he could lose his job? Maybe he is in tight with the boss or something, but in most cases, an employee would most certainly be fired for that type of behavior. It sounds like the customer is activating their own phone, and he is taking a phone off the shelf for himself--invoicing it out so that the cost is covered--and not telling the customer what he did. The customer is entitled to that free phone, or at least is entitled to sign up for a 1-year contract instead of 2 years. What happens if that customer's phone craps out in 2-3 months and they come back looking for the "free" phone they could have gotten originally? You know, it's not like this sort of thing hasn't come up before...just do the right thing.

I agree with cingman66, it's a bit of an...well I'll just say not the wisest decision.

But it's whatever they can sleep with at night.

Hence waiting almost 30 days before you have your way with the subsidy... sneaky guys.

Wow, that's pretty shady. Techinically even the OP is in the wrong, not that i wouldn't do the same and take the phone if someone gave it to me. But in the code of conduct it states that any phone is given to you it is actually Cingular's at that point, but like I said..I wouldn't give that type of phone up either.

Where's that at? Never saw that. Devices loaned or given to you are property of ATT such as COU and integrated seed devices, but customers can gift employees upto a certain dollar amount. Beyond that dollar amount it must be approved by your manager.

I'll copy and paste where I read that out of the Code of Conduct when I get back to work. It's in there though, I was personally convicted after just fixing broken phones and selling them on Ebay.

You are not alone...do you know how many sales people I know of that sell phones out of their trunk (or ebay, or wherever)? Agents (usually) have no such "code of conduct" that prohibits taking old phones from customers...everything is pretty much fair game to be re-sold down the line. I know one guy that even bothers to take all the TDMA and analog crap we get and sell those back (usually $1-$2 a pop).

The reps that make me sick are the ones that use the decent GSM trades that we get and sell them for profit to customers INSTEAD of selling them company equipment. I know one guy that has, literally, a trunk full of GSM phones and has a reputation around town as "the phone guy" when you need something cheap. He's one step away from selling guns or drugs out of his car...or is he there already...hmmm...? In any case, I think his Agent even knows about it and somehow condones it...as he hasn't been fired yet, and has been doing it for several years in different stores. My take on it is this: If you receive a phone from a customer, give it to the company and let them refurb it and put it back into stock as a used phone. Selling phones on your own opens up the door to problems down the road...most notably what do you do if/when the phone stops working. There is no warranty...so you have to come up with another piece of crap used phone for the customer. Lame...very lame way to do business. There is enough money to be made in this business the legitimate way, and I always stand by the credo of "CYA". (cover your ***)
