Ok so I love my 8525. I love Cingular and get reception everywhere. But I swear atleast once a day when I'm on the phone with someone my phone will just drop the call. It makes no sense becasue Cingular is supposed to have to fewest dropped calls of any carrier, yet I never had dropped calls with my verizon service. It has to be the 8525...not that I would ever get rid of it...I can deal with the problem its just an annoyance. Anyone else have problems like this or is my phone just haunted?!

Yes, but when I updated to the latest ROM release it helped.

There is a known issue where the device if it is in an area serviced with both 2g and 3g will constantly swap between the two bands according to which is giving the strongest signal at that point. Keep in mind that even within one room you can find the signal is 3g strong at one side and 2g strong at the other. If this worked well it would be fine, but many folks report dropped calls when the switching happens.

There is a work around if this is your problem. It is to set the phone to use one band or the other. Commonly for the time being most set to 2g in these unstable areas. In the unbranded TyTn and some of the branded Hermes models you have options in the Phone Settings to choose what bands you want to use (2g GSM only for example).

This can be a bother to set if you also happen to want 3g forr data transfer throughout the day. So look out for DanielHerrero's band switch application - it's easy to use and just makes it a whole lot smoother to choose a band as and when you want to. There are links to the band switch app. over at http://www.XDA-Developers.com

Cheers
Mike

THat's happened to me on my Dash as well, but only when I go into tunnels and such. My TyTN can hold the call in the same area though.

My new 8525 drops calls constantly. In fact when I look at the signal strenght it will bounce up and down while I'm looking at it. I work about 10 miles from downtown houston and according to Cingulars map we have plenty of coverage around my office but I will average 1 to 2 bars while sitting at my desk which is near a window. I've contacted Amazon for a replacement hoping this will cure the problem. I had T-Mobil before and hardly ever got a dropped call and always full strenght on the signal meter.

i dont get that many droped calles (maybe 1 or 2 every few days) except in my house, the service is so sketchy, it goes between all the bands if im moving through the house so i have to set it in a particular spot when teathering it to my pc, and even after a while sumtimes it will got to EDGE without even been touched.

Nope not really.

Yes I constantly have this problem, whether I am moving with my phone or am at the same location with the phone.

This is extremely annoying, especially when I have a conference call / sales call with my customer. Makes it looks extremely unprofessional

My rom is 2.15.502.3
Radio is 1.16.00.00

Hope Official Att WM6 release fixes this issue
