Can't connect 8525 as a modem...pls help

Ok so before I got a new hard drive I was able to use my 8525 as a modem. Now when I hook my phone up to my computer it doesnt recognize it and the Install New Hardware box doesnt show up to let me locate the drivers.

Any ideas on what i'm doing wrong? I tried two different usb ports. Your help is greatly appreciated.

are you starting the modem link program on the phone before plugging it in?

I believe after the upgrade you have to use Internet Connection Sharing, rather than the modem. I haven't done the upgrade yet so I don't know the exact steps to follow. However, I am pretty sure you will no longer be dialing, but rather just sharing the phone connection.

what type of upgrade? ok my phone works on my husbands computer but his doesnt....we cant figure it out why

Sorry, I've been reading too much about the new ROM upgrade and somehow got in my mind you had performed it. I can't help with your issue.

Try the following:

1. Re-install the latest Microsoft ActiveSync software.
2. Reboot both your PC and 8525
3. Once the PC is booted up, go to Microsoft ActiveSync and uncheck the "Allow USB connections" box to make sure that ActiveSync will not interfere with the data connection.
4. Connect your 8525 on a USB port. Initiate Wireless Modem app.
5. Dial-up from your PC.

Hope that works.
