Can't install the new ROM update on my 8525 from my Vista computer

First of all, I have a Vista computer (mistake #1 lol) and I cannot install the new ROM update on my Cingular 8525 for some reason. There are two scenarios that happen. The first one is that I connect my phone to my computer, the Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) connects with my phone and syncs it fine. I have to use that program because I have Vista and you cannot use Activsync on Vista computers. Once my phone is connected, I start the ROM update program that I downloaded from the HTC website. When it says it's "verifying the computer settings", my screen goes to the blue, green, and red screen and my USB connection is lost. No matter how many times I unplug and replug in my phone, my computer will not recognize it. I then get a connection error 264 because the program cannot connect to my phone. The second scenario is that I start the program up and run it up until the point that it actually has to connect to my phone and install the update. Before I begin, I'll connect the phone to the computer and it connects fine. Once it begins the update, my screen goes dark and my USB connection is lost. I then get a connection error 260. The phone is not timing out, I made sure to turn the hibernate and sleep modes off so the screen stays on until I turn it off. I work at a Cingular COR store and have used this phone for several months and know it like the back of my hand so I am 99.9% sure I'm not doing anything wrong. Is anyone experiencing similar problems or have a solution for me? I called Cingular and they directed me to HTC. I called HTC and he could not figure out any reason why it is doing this. His only advice was to find an XP computer and install the update from there. I saw a few other people on here having similar problems but then it looked like it eventaually worked. Please let me know if there is any advice you can give me!!!

I would say just install with a xp computer would be your best bet. My best guess is that the new rom installation is not compatible with vista.

The update if officially NOT vista compatable, you MUST have an xp computer to install

That's not true, I installed the new ROM on my 8525 from a Vista computer with no problems.

When I talked to HTC, I told him I was using Vista and he said that's fine. Why would HTC make something that wouldn't be compatible with an operating system almost 4 months after the OS was released? Anyway, what was the process you took to get it to load from the Vista computer? Anything special? The guy at HTC said I seemed to be doing everything right but couldn't figure out what was going on.

I did get a connection error the first couple of times I tried to run the installation program. I think it was the USB connection to my phone. I've had slight problems before with the connection becoming loose. I pushed it in and secured it as tight as I could and made sure Windows Mobile Device Center showed it was connected. If you havnt set up a partnership with WMDC then do so.

Not sure if this will help you, but it definately is possible to use your Vista computer to do the upgrade.

A lot of software is still not 100% compatible with Vista. Trust me, I have to deal with it almost every day.

He was being very helpful, but unfortunately couldn't get it working. With that program I got from the mrvanx website, I loaded it up and followed the instructions and it worked perfectly. Thanks!

I successfully updated from from the Vista partition on my iMac after having problems on my XP PC. The update stalled once, but I rebooted and succeeded on the second try. During the process it appears that the computer looses communication with the phone, but this just lasts a few minutes.
