The Good Parts of Working for Cingular

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Everyone is always so quick to talk about the bad parts of working for Cingular, so I thought maybe we should talk about the good stuff. This is from a COR standpoint because that is what side I am on.

The benefits are absolutely amazing:

About 32 dollars a month get me and my wife excellent health insurance. Dental and vision included. If my wife and I were to have a baby it would cost very little and a 15 dollar copay on doctor visits are usually all we need.

Tuition reimbursement is great. Cingular is basically paying for my school now. I work full time and go to school part time, so the $5,250 yearly limit is more than enough to cover me for my bacholers. This means that I will be out of school totally debt free.

Also the pension and 401(k) are good programs.

We get to play with all the new toys:

I don't know about everyone else but I love the new pieces of technology that we get to play with, and my manager is cool enough to let us try these things out on our personal time. This works out well because the better we know the products the easier they are to sell. So I pretty much get to use whatever I want without having to pay anything because they know I'm going to sell alot of whatever it is that I am using.

The people I work with are great:

I know this will vary greatly from store to store, but the people I work with are a lot of fun and I never am disapointed about someone I am scheduled to work with.

My customers are (for the most part) decent people:

The area I live in is very mellow and laid back so everyone is pretty cool about stuff, there are the exceptions of course but mostly people are very nice. We never have anything stolen from our store or anything.

I have been here for almost 2 years and this job has more than provided for me and my wife financially. At this point, both of us still being in school, I could not ask for a much better job and am thankful to Cingular for being such a formadable employer for my younger years.

i agree with everything...this company is paying for my MBA! not to mention all the money they're giving me in my 401k. i make about 45k/year but after you figure in the 401k and tuition assistance it's pretty dang close to 55k...not to mention that me being single i'm only paying $10/month for full coverage insurance. and if you're good enough at what you do, it's not a stressful job

THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR THIS THREAD only bad things here!! lol. just kidding. I agree. There's not a customer or manager that doesn't make me appreciate the job I have. The mean or crazy ones make the job fun.

How long do you have to be with Cingular before you can be eligible for Tuition Reimbursement?

You have to complete the classes and get at least a C in each class to get reimbursed.

It took about 2 weeks to get my money back after I submitted the forms.

Don't you have to stay employed with the company for a certain period of time after you graduate? Otherwise, I think you have to pay the money back

I am a bargained employee so there is not a time I have to stay with the company. That is only true for non bargained. I checked into this pretty extensively to make sure.

Edit: that period is 2 years for non bargained employees.

The only thing I like is the 3G tetherable phone. Or just the COU sim with unlimited nationwide calling/texting/internet!

one year is required to receive tuition reembursment

Non-Corp here, but I love my employee line. One of the best plans on the best network.

Wow, I was thinking of going back to school for tuition reimbursement, but I am a Team Manager and I am non-bargained. I am not thinking of leaving, but I hate contracts and that seems like a contract to me. And when it says I have to stay two years, when does the two years start or does it restart? What I mean by restart, let's say I start going for my BA in the fall and then I continue to the Spring semister, does it re-start the two years since they are different semisters? Or is it two years after I finish?

Things I love:

My reps
My co-workers
My COU line (omg no limit!)
Medical Insurance (although I don't use it)

Oh yeah, I forgot the ole' COU line plus my ERP lines...those are a nice plus.

The tuition reimbursement time period for non-bargained employees is 2 years from when reimbursed on a particular semester. So its not at the end of 2 years from when you TOTALLY finish school.

COU lines are not supposed be tethered.

My Manager said it was ok and he does it himself so until I'm told otherwise. I think Cingular should be more concerned with the Reps ordering 3rd party services like HBO Mobile etc.

Benefits are good for Full time but a lot of my friends co-workers are part-time working 35+ hours a week and their healthcare is like 480+ a month for a family of 3!!! That doesn't seem fair to me.

I've enjoyed working for ATT indirect for over a year now, and I hope my employees would agree.

uhh i would put money your not supposed to have a cou sim - you probably stole it - because if you worked at AT&T you would know where to get it. By now its probably found to be missing and not working anyway. BL with your venture to find the PUK code.

BUT if you are just talking about regular not cou PUK code then go to a corporate store and ask them for it. they will verify your the actual account holder before giving it to you.
