WM6 Questions

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: john1230954

I just installed WM6 and am having trouble switching over some things that I had tweaked form WM5. The questions:

1 - How do I set the MMS settings? this used to be under tart -> messaging -> highlight mms and click menu -> settings -> menu -> mmsc settings for WM5

2- How do I access the menus with Total Commander to disable the "message sent" with sent messages.

3- How can I assign a new key, specifically the t-zones key to become the Comm Manager

Posted by: el_plebillo

same problem here, can anybody help?
can't find the mmsc settings

Posted by: kgelster

How can I change th T-Zones button?
The files to change are windows/short_IE.lnk AND windows/pie.lnk
If you dont change them both, the button will execute two different programs. I just edited them on my PC with Notepad. T-Zones now opens Task Manager for me.

I'll add some questions--
What App buttons correspond to which keys in Voice Command?
Where can I find some themes that work with WM6?
How can I change the in-call background screen?

On your computer with the Dash connected, how to do you get to the "Windows" folder?

Posted by: john1027

John, if you aren't seeing the windows folder with an active sync connection and a/s explorer on your pc, make sure you have show hidden files and folders selected under tools>folders>options>view>files.

Wikipedia Definition`tart
n.
1
A pastry shell with shallow sides, no top crust, and any of various fillings.
Chiefly British. A pie.

2
A prostitute.
A woman considered to be sexually promiscuous.

So WM6 has "Tart -> Messaging" I guess home visits are extra??

LMAO! Dude you know he meant "Start" as the Start Menu, he's probably just typing at rapid speed over WiFi on his S621.

Posted by: john1230954

Yes, thank you. I meant start "START"

I have the MMS connection installed, just can not configure the MMS program settings for WM6.

You can get RegEdit here but you don't need it for this-
SUPER NOOB DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO REMAP THE TZONES BUTTON IN WM6
1) Connect your Dash to your PC. Click "Explore" on the ActiveSync window.
2) Click "mobile device" and then "windows" folder.
3) Copy short_IE.lnk and pie.lnk from 'Windows' to your desktop.
4) Open the "start menu" folder and choose the new application you want to link to. Copy it to the desktop.
5) Select the three shortcuts on your desktop. Right click, choose properties, and make sure that "read-only" is unchecked. (If you can't see the shortcuts after copying them to your computer, its because you dont have "view hidden files" turned on. From "My Computer" choose Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Show hidden files)
6) On your PC, open NotePad. Drag and drop the desired application shortcut into notepad. Select all of it, copy it. Now open short_IE.lnk in Notepad. Erase whats there and paste in the new shortcut. Save it. Do the same again with pie.lnk.
7) Copy the edited short_IE.lnk and pie.lnk back to the 'Windows' folder on your Dash, overwriting the old files.
8) Restart and test it out.

Posted by: john1230954

I was actually able to do this with Total Commander. But I did not do the pie.lnk it all seems to work well. In all honesty, I did not change the pie.lnk because I don't know how to replace that with the CommManager but I did it with the ie.link and now that is all working well.

Posted by: Ago Vino Verita

1-) Go to messaging, click on inbox, MMS then check settings. Alternately, you can just create a new Messaging account, you will have the option to pick what can of account click on MMS.

2-) Get HTweaK2 or SK Tools both free and you can do it through there, much easier and you would have more options that you can change.

3-) You can use SK Tools for that too. See? Lots of options.

I, also, did not change the pie.lnk file and my re-map to Task Manager is working just fine. I just used the same process I did with WM5, using plain old Notepad on my PC, and all is well. Maybe the pie.lnk file only has to be changed for certain new target programs?

Hello All,

Under WM5 I was able to use "My Email Triggers" to have email pushed to my phone for one email account. I no longer see this option under WM6. I have successfully set up my email, but the automatic send and receive (set to 15 minutes) does not seem to be working. The email account that I wish to check automatically is a POP account. In WM5 I was able to set up email accounts by logging into my T-Mobile web account and then running an app that pulled the account setting from T-Mobile. I no longer can find this app, and don't even know if I need to. I would be fine with my phone doing a send and receive every 15 minutes, but currently this doesn't seem to work. Am I doing something wrong? Did WM6 do away with "My Email Triggers" and replace them with the scheduled send and receive that does not work?

Any help appreciated.

Regards,
Aaron J. Wood

From what I have read, the triggers seem to have removed. I am getting odd notification text messages from T-Mobile, that I have an email, but the email itself isn't downloaded until the set "check" time (I am set to every 30 mins right now). I, too, don't like this new system. If you have it check frequently, I presume you're using up battery life and hogging the network. But I don't want to have to wait and hour or two for some work emails, so 30 mins seems to be a good compromise.

i actually like the new wm6 email app its a lot better then the wm5 email app... at least int his one it wouldnt delete your old messages while it send and recieves...

Posted by: john1230954

Hi,

I understand what you are saying here but I can't see what you are talking about. When I click on messaging I see three things:

1- Text/Multimedia
2- Outlook email
3 - New E-Email Account

When I try to add a new account, that only adds new email accounts. I can't see the location to edit MMS settings.

you mean for the text message email notification thing,,,, have you ever thought about calling t mobile and ask them... before when i had this problem on wm5 i called them up and they told me exactly what to do...

Posted by: JayDM SI Hatch

Where can i get WM6 from i want it, and cant find the proper download link or begin to know where i can start, t-mobile says microsoft, but i cant find where??? Help Please?

Posted by: el_plebillo

a lot of people have tried this but couldnt be it... if you would look in the beginning of the post a lot of people tried to reg edit it and attempt to get rid of it but most people said they couldnt do it

Posted by: john1230954

Not sure if this comment was for me or not. But yes, I own the Dash and use it with another company.

Everything works well except the MMS. In WM5 there was a way to edit the MMS settings, I can't access that here, there has to be a way to access that to change it to my current provider.

Posted by: el_plebillo

The dash with Wm5, before the t-mobile upgrade, yes, it is possible to use with other companies, it is after the upgrade, where the MMSC settings dissappear.

Posted by: john1230954

Yes, these settings dissappear in WM6. But where do they dissappear to and how can they be edited?

Posted by: john1230954

Here are the settings for MMS on WM6

ohhh, i know what your talking about. I had trouble my first time to.
Open up the start menu
click messaging
click text/multimedia
click menu
\click new
click mms
click menu
scroll to options
click message options
click menu
then you'll see mmsc settings.

dont forget to delete the tmobile mms settings.

I got them of another post and thought I would put them here for others.

Posted by: ChInEsE ChIcKeN

are you guys talking about a unlocked dash and trying to get the mms settings working? because i am confused with all the different questions going around?

Noob question but Short_IE.lnk file is read-only, how do I overwrite the file?

Umm... make not read only.

Re-read the super noob directions - it tells how to change read only attribute.

Posted by: dwkmi

By default in WM6 on Dash you have to press and hold home key. I would rather just press a dedicated key.

To set dedicated Tzones button, put the following in your windows\Short_IE file

49#"\Windows\VoiceCmd.exe" -min

Does anyone know where to turn on javascript in wm6? I don't see the setting in IE.

It's on. From what I see it supports JavaScript version 1.7 - although pocket IE may be limited in it's implementation of it.

At first, I wasn't able to copy the files back to the Windows directory on the Dash because the files were still Read-Only, I tried changing the Read-Only properties on the \Windows\Short_IE.lnk file via my desktop but it didn't change the file. I was able to just edit the Short_IE.lnk files with Total Commander.

Posted by: dwkmi

That's odd. I usually set the file back to read only on my desktop after editing. And then when copying back to device folder it just prompts me to overwrite. It is then read only on the device.

Also can you use Google Maps for Smartphone with GPS and Windows Live Mobile with GPS as well.

anyone else having problems with their custom homescreens defaulting back to the default when the phone is rebooted?

Posted by: chewy1576

yeah im having that problem as well... i rearranged the order of the plugins on the "windows default" homescreen. When i restart the phone it defaults back to the "T-Mo Default Blue" homescreen... haven't found why though... i just don't turn the phone off

To have the Dash stop changing homescreen back to default.
Simply put this code somewhere in your custom homescreen
Code:
<!-- myFaves --> <plugin clsid="***7FC004C-2AEC-447b-96E2-54D5DD90A6DD}"/>

Posted by: dwkmi

In the above code, the *** should be {

Not sure why this board has molested text within CODE tags. Isn't the point of having code tags so that you can actually post code and not have it altered?

Posted by: kloquewerk

still didn't work with the code

Posted by: kgelster

The screen switch is caused by the My5 app. If you remove the shortcut to it from the \Windows\Startup folder, you'll be fine.

Argento, you can use GMaps with a bluetooth GPS.

My bad. I also removed the my5 app from startup. Although I believe it still changed the homescreen till I added the code. I may be wrong.

Posted by: kloquewerk

thanks. i will try that out now

[edit] ok, when i try to delete the My5MsgCenter it says "Cannot delete..there has been a sharing violation". how do you get around that?

Using explorer in activesync... rename to anything.... reboot Dash... explorer again... delete...

Posted by: kloquewerk

that's funny, I tried that before and it didn't work but trying it again did. oh well, thanks guys!

Posted by: Vugeta

does wm6 affect those users with tzones?

Posted by: dwkmi

Depends on how you mean. For me, the t-zones page doesn't work correctly - I cannot view account info. But I think that is at T-mobiles end.

If you are are wondering if how it effects all the users that are too cheap to pay for the full data plan, and squeak by with the 5.99 t-zones, I don't know - I'm cheap, but not that cheap.
