Duplicate contacts on 8525 phonebook

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

At first i was having trouble because both SIM and phone contacts were showing. I have managed to disable SIM contact but now, somehow duplicate contacts in the phone book were created. I'm not in the mood of deleting mga 500+ contacts one by one. Is there a way fix this? Or if not, how do you "SELECT ALL" the contacts for deletion?

How did you disable SIM contacts from showing?

What's the purpose of keeping contacts on a sim anyway? If you lose your phone, you also lose your contacts. The best method is to sync with your PIM.

To the OP, the best way I can think of at the moment is to sync with your PIM and delete them from there. It's much faster.

Registry. I advise against doing this though. If you modify the "show sim" in the registry, your phone might hang if you access start->settings->phone.

Keeping contacts on the SIM is for backup purposes. If let's say your phone dies and you don't have any charger around, you just have to borrow someone else's unlocked phone, insert your sim and you still have your own contacts with you. I hate it when everytime I sync, Activesync disables all my wireless connection, as in ALL the computers in my house that is wifi connected requiring a system reboot to reconnect correctly (sometimes I have to restart the wireless router and cable modem as well).

Is there a fix for this?

yeah i'm not big on Registry Edits... I did notice i could use the Filter feature, and rather then show ALL Contacts, I can List by Category... Sucks that I have to go back into all of my contacts and add categories, but i'd rather see the phone list over from the mixed List... and Yeah if the phone get's lost then you're SOL, but if you get a second phone, or upgrade, then it's just easier to transfer contacts and load right away... Also I like to keep my most used or recient numbers on my device, and use the SIM as a backup/main contact list ... just my .02

EDIT: I just noticed the filter only works while it's opened, once you close contacts, it brings it back to the All Contacts list mixed with the SIM contacts

I've never heard of such a problem with wifi and Activesync.

That is a valid point you raised in regards to the sim. However, it's rare that my phone has ever died on me and even more rare for someone to have a spare unlocked phone available to lend me. That's just me though.

Picard, I had the same problem with activesync screwing up my wifi connection until I rebooted my laptop. It definitely has something to do with the HTC modem driver. When I originally got my phone (a 3125) I didn't have any problems until I installed the modem driver to try out tethering. It started happening right away after that, but now that I have deleted the dialup connection and uninstalled the driver it is back to normal.

I'm going to put on the new ROM that was just released soon, hopefully the internet sharing thingy will coexist better with my laptop's wifi than the dialup stuff did.
