New Free IM Client for Blackberry

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

There's a new IM Client for MIDP2.0 phones as well as blackberries available. Download from http://wap.bing.im

It's currently in beta state. Tested it on my 8700 and works fine. UI is much better on Java phone than on a blackberry, but after getting used to it, it's quite comfortable. Connects to ICQ/MSN/AIM as well as it's own network. GPRS/UMTS traffic consumption is very low. 1 sent Msg uses just ~0,25kb. Settings -> System Info shows consumed traffic.)

3 important remarks for installation:

- Correct APN for tcp connections has to be entered on blackberry under settings -> advanced settings -> tcp

- App has to be downloaded with the Blackberry Browser from http://wap.bing.im . (PC download and transfer via usb cable does not work)

- You can type in mobile numbers (eg. on setup screen) in international format without "+" too ("+" is not supported by blackberry input form).

Useful hints:

- By pressing the red hangup button you can switch the app in the background.

- Keyboard Shortcuts: 0 ... toggles hide offline/online, # ... sound on/off, * ... lock keyboard

A shame there are no screen shots or anything! People like to see things before they go installing it, and then it starts to cause issues on their device(s)...

I don't like it. It forces you to input your phone number, birth date and other information before you can use it. And when I wanted to see the privacy statement (the app gave a url for privacy info), the site was down.

No thanks!

I downloaded it this morning. Only supports AIM / ICQ / MSN. When I tried to register one of my AIM screen names it told me it was invaild data.

The website has been down all day for any support. I guess you get what you pay for!

@Missing Screenshots: It's a beta test issue. The website is not ready yet, but will be up and running in ~2 weeks.

@Phone number: The phone number is used as unique identifier for your account. If you use bings own network (not ICQ/MSN/AIM) you can add/invite other persons by phone number, which makes it easy to (find &) add friends. Every new person you add and which is not yet registered will get a text message (SMS) telling her about your inviation.
