8525 Wi-Fi problems

I can't seem to get my 8525 (refurb from Cingular ) to transfer info via wi-fi. It will connect with a wi-fi network but when I try to get on the Internet it says page not found. If I disconnect from wifi and use 3G it's fine. Also my laptop sails on these wifis...so I don't think it's the access points.

It's the new ROM: 2.15.502.3

I've Master Reset, changed settings that I thought would make a difference in Connections (WiFi and Wireless LAN) but still no go.

Both Cingular and HTC tech help was frighteningly bad...I knew more than they did about the phone.

Anyone got any ideas?

did you try to go to Start> Settings > Connections> and then change it from MEdia NEt to My ISP, and then go to Wireless LAN, and turn it on from there, and then start IE, and then go... The new update claims you can use MEdia Net via WiFi, but it still doesn't seem to work that way. So i can only access CV, and ATT Music through my MEdia Net, though my XMradio worked through WiFi.

Yeah, changed it to My ISP...as I said the phone connects with my Wi-Fi but will not go to the Internet through it.

Two guesses:

Do you have MAC filtering enabled on your wireless router? I once wasted hours after upgrading the mini-PCI wireless card in my laptop because I had enabled filtering once upon a time and then forgotten about it.

DNS issues? On mine if I point a web browser at 192.168.0.1 it brings up the administration page. If that works but you can't get outside, maybe you need to explicitly specify DNS servers in your network connections settings.

I think that the MEdia NEt connection also plays into the validation and authentication features used in the MediaNet video and store, as well.

right, but it's still listed as possible with the new ROM, and I have yet to get it to work... maybe the proxy? but i don't know i'm still trying to look for some info on it... unless someone here can provide it i have not seen anything about it working.

I hate to say this, try a hard reset. I haven't had any problems with mine.

I am having the same problems accessing wifi. I just recently updated to the new ROM, and now no wifi. Any suggestions?

I had the same issues, no wifi. I updated my routers firmware and was able to get the 8525 to connect.

The 8525 does connect and i can browse PIE now, but for whatever reason I have to reboot the router to get the 8525 to connect if it disconnects

Thanks...I'll try that this weekend...teh 8525 connects everywhere else there is wi-fi access so this has been a little confusing.

Posted by: unregistered825

Also... when accessing WiFi I try and set my network to use "work". This prevents any programs that need to connect to the internet from starting MEdia Net or My ISP.

Another little thing too that might help.

Set your router to allow a static IP that will only connect with your 8525 and set up a new connection with all the wifi information in your 8525 settings before you enable wifi.

With my 8525 i can connect to whenever i connect to the unsecured hotspots like airports, coffee shops etc, i can browse the internet. It says "locating" then gives the pop up message "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again"

I recently upgraded to the new ROM.

Can some help with this....PLEASE.......i need this for work

change wifi power setting to best performance. I was having the same problem and sometimes it would connect then disconnect. changed the setting and it worked. Don't know why but it worked.

In Settings, click Wifi and choose your Wifi connection and check the box that says "This is a hidden network"

NOTE: this is assuming that you don't have MAC filtering, your wireless network otherwise works great, and you have set your connection to My ISP or turned off proxy on Media Net.

i connect to the hotspot just fine. it'd just that i get that message everytime i try to load a web page.

how do i disable the media net proxy. I'm not even seeing the My ISP connection

please help

Posted by: kareem9nba

go to the proxy folder in your programs and then run the disable proxy cab.

Posted by: zephxiii

start, settings, connections tab, hit connections icon, advanced tab, select networks, both should be 'media net' and select edit, proxy tab, uncheck this connection uses proxy etc checkbox

should do the trick

Posted by: donboygd

That checkbox is already unchecked......anything else?

Posted by: zephxiii

check to see if its getting a proper ip address assigned in wifi settings.

Posted by: donboygd

i've disabled the proxy on my 8525 and it seens to have done the trick .I've since been able to browse the internet from a wifi hotspot.

i hope it continues to work

Posted by: donboygd

I've just tried it again i had the same problem. can someone advise?

Posted by: donboygd

I've had success with the disabling of the proxy. However, sometimes in the middle of browsing i get the same message "page cannot be found...." and the the page progress indicator says "locating". it's like the proxy setting is not maintained. Can anyone provide some assistance in how this can be avoided......PLEASE?
