n75 vs V3xx vs SYNC

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

im probably gonna be getting one of these tomorrow. I'm leaning more towards the n75. I know there will be alot of bias going on around here but I just wanna hear what you guys think. I have a Sharp 903sh and a SLVR so you can see where im coming from. Which would be the best compared to the 903sh? I need functionality, reliability, but also apps, music, and all the extras.

Posted by: bodeh6

N75 for sure. Both the Samsung UI and Moto UI don't hold a candle to S60.

Posted by: mySRT8U

bias lol hands down N75 the sync and v3xx are useless. the only thing nice about the v3xx is the nvidia graphics processor

and the 3.6Mbp/s max HSDPA.

The N75 only has UMTS and not HSDPA. If you want fast browsing forget it.
The N75 does not have stereo Blutooth,
The N75 has only an 800 Mah battery.
ALL initial reviews of the N75 suck. Check out the PC magazine review.

That comment was about the V3xx.

Posted by: b0stonirishguy

I'd go with the V3xx and N75. The SYNC is a distant third.

Posted by: what_up

I would strongly recommend the V3xx. It's a proven great performer. Initial reviews of N75 have not been very good. But, everyone that I know with V3xx, are very happy with the performance of the phone. IMHO, V3xx is the best performing PHONE in Cingular lineup.

This guy is notorious for hating on the N75, don't bite I think he works for Motorola. (and doesn't read well, the N75 will have stereo bluetooth)

IMO, the N75 stands out from the others because it is a smart phone. I wouldn't even count the SYNC in the same contest.

V3xx wins in data speed, ease of use, size, and battery life.

N75 wins in PDA functionality, available 3rd party applications and games, music player.

I'm a huge Symbian fan, but honestly until the kinks get worked out (if ever) I'd go V3xx unless you really need a PDA phone w/camera. (E62 isn't bad for a pda phone sans camera)

Posted by: MI_canuck

V3xx gets my vote (3.6 HSDPA, Nvidia graphics accelerator, thinner @ 15mm)

the only reason to consider N75 is if you absolutely need more PDA functionality... But considering the phones you already have (SLVR, Sharp 903sh), I think you'd be happiest with the V3xx...

(btw- isn't the Sharp 903sh a FOMA phone? How are you getting it to work here in the U.S./Cingular? Or do you use only when traveling to Japan?)

cheers

The N75 is hands down a better device. If you don't need any advanced features and just want a "cool" phone, the V3xx is a good choice because then there's no reason to spend the money on the N75. If you're a gadget freak or anything close to it and want to play with cool toys, the N75 doesn't even compare to the other two.
That being said, I own a Sync and I do like it, aside from a few minor issues (most notably, can't "pause" a Java app to answer a call or close the phone).

Posted by: blackwindexe

i use my 903sh here but its been acting up on me so i needed to flash it a couple times. I'm getting rid of it since i don't want to deal with it anymore even though I love the phone. My slvr all of a sudden stopped working which is why I want to steer away from the razr.

well i'm kinda cutting out the sync because the phone just doesnt feel right to me. I went to the store and held it and went through it and it just felt like it was slacking. Maybe coming from the 903sh i expected more. the n75 hasnt been shipped to my local store yet so i still have time to decide. i also noticed the 3125. is that a good smartphone?

Posted by: tuolumne

Eh, I held the N75 today and wasn't very impressed and the lack of real HSDPA is completely inexcusable. It felt pretty cheap, just like the Samsung does. I know I love Samsung, but I'd have to go with Motorola on this one.

I would agree. I returned the N75 today and got a V3xx. I really wanted the N75 to work out, since they currently are Finland production. The phone is solid, but I need to make calls and today it wouldn't connect calls.

I have had Symbian from 6600, SX1, P900i, era. The N75 is slow to the point of being unresponsive. I feel much of the problem is directly related to the Cingular branding. The only other Symbian phone that was this unresponsive was one of the 3600s with the OLD AT&T Wireless branding. After a few revs of the software that one seemed to improve as I recall.

So, unfortunately, I will make phone calls with the V3xx and wait for the 2nd or 3rd version of the N75

Posted by: blackwindexe

now ur making me want to forgo the wait and get something else. is the cingular 3125 any good? i heard there were problems with reception.

I have the V3XX, a e62 and now a SE K790a.

The V3XX is a good backup phone or I use it when I want to travel super light. But I have to tell you that my unbranded/unlocked K790a is the best phone I have ever had. And I have had a ton of phones with Cingular and Verizon.

The SE is a great phone... yeah I know no 3G.. but I dont really care. Cingular video after a while is more of a gimmick than a feature to me.

3.2 MP Cyber Shot camera, fan-fing tastic IU, RSS Reader, Bluetooth 2.0, runs Java apps without permission nags.

All you N75, V3XX SYNC users should be jealous of me and my K790a

I can't disagree with you. I have my K790a for more or less the same reasons.

The phone came through our offices for a few weeks and had a chance to play with it. Jealous of the camera for sure. Nice feature set. But candy bars are not for me. Hate them. I have a treo 750 and a Nokia N62i that I switch back and fourth and I am constantly cleaning the damn screens on these phones. Pain in the @%&. Tag on no 3G and just EDGE, I'll pass. I would take the V3xx and definatly the N75 over the Sony any day of the week. You can keep it. Now put the same phone in a clamshell with 3g, now that would be a different story, maybe. It is a nice phone though, just not for me.

That's great, but Samsung has already put all that into a 13mm thin slider form factor with a 2.3" QVGA and HSDPA.

N62i? WTF?

I had the N75 and can confirm that the one I had (with I think November firmware) had A2DP (stereo bluetooth) and was one of the snappiest S60 devices I'd ever used. Build quality was awesome, as well.

It looks somewhat bulky but it's really not when you hold it.

I just can't understand why anyone would carry a RAZR anymore. Doesn't it bother you people to have the same phone (on the outside) as everyone else in the world?

The N75 hands-down for the sheer reason of usefulness. Think of something, ANYTHING you'd like to do with your phone. The N75 can do it.

Use your phone as a webcam over Bluetooth? Done.
Use data instead of sms for IM? Done.
Multi-task (have more than one application open at a time, and switch between them freely? Done.
Full web browsing? Done.
Control your computer from your phone over bluetooth? Done.
Download music straight to the phone? Done.
Full movies? Done.
MOIP (Mobile VOIP)? Done.

Seriously, it's a no-brainer if you want the most for your money.

@ RC, did you ever have any problems closing apps? Have you played with one of the more recent N75's? I'm just hesitant because of all the problems (even turning some series 60 fans away) from the N75.

Ok...I got the Platinum Motorola V3xx today that I ordered from Cingular on Sunday. And, after only a few minutes of playing with it...and making two real phone calls...it is winging it's way back to the new AT&T via FedEx. I finally see that I am...

1) Done with the RAZR form, the user-unfriendly Motorola UI, and done with AT&T's "lookie-lookie" marketing of simply another V3 incarnation. Over, done with...out.

2)Spoiled to a smartphone. I am not a techno-whiz, and am still a little intimidated by the technology. But...I have gotten used to easy data/email availability, nice large screen...and the ability to do more than simply make and recieve phone calls.

Aside from a little better display, little faster (but still very user-unfriendly and unintuitive) UI, a little nicer keypad...and 3G, it is still a RAZR. OMG...what a boring device. I am glad I finally got that out of my system...after TWO tries. Good riddance!!

So...I am once again in search of a great backup phone to my Treo 680. And, I may just give the N75 a try. I am pretty much converted to "candybarism" from my years as a flip phone guy...but I might give it a try nonetheless. I have never had a phone with Symbian OS...and an curious.

The Sync is just not for me. Played with one a co-worker had...and was totally unimpressed. The only Samsung that I would ever consider is another BlackJack...but I dislike the WM5 OS a great deal...so that's not an option either.

Now...if I could find a real steal of a deal on a Nokia N73...hmmmmmmmm.

n75 cingular review up on cnet.
http://reviews.cnet.com/Nokia_N75/4...ss_rltd?tag=txt

ive basically cut out the razr from my choices mainly because its everywhere. my mom has a v3 and my dad has a v3xx. im not really impressed with his and i guess i really wanna stay away from moto for now. the sync seems to weak for me... its just lacking i guess. the n75 seems good but now im hearing about all these flaws. is the battery life really that bad?

Posted by: markcobra

I was also considering the v3xx but thru reading opinions on here and playing with the phone at length a few times at the stores I have to agree that the razr is a tired phone style but is a great performer. But I'vebeen spoiled by smartphones as well. whether it be symbian, palm or wm.

My blackjack is actually my weekend/style phone and my 6620 is my work phone cause for some strange reason the BJ does not pick up a signal that well at my job. Other than that it is a great phone.

I'm going to wait until the N75 comes down in price and the bugs and flaws get worked out before I get that phone to finally phase out the trusty workhorse that is my Nokia 6620.

how long do u think it will take for it to come down

Posted by: davistld01

I decided to pick up a Nokia E50 tonight from a HoFo member. Good, solid, small smartphone...and will serve the purpose I need it for. Plus it'll give me a chance to play with the Symbian OS.

Heck, the reviews are better for the little E50 than the hotshot N75!!! Amazing...

Good pickup. I'd like to get my hands on a nokia e70 but they are hard to come by. Good luck with it.

N-75 by a mile! unless your tethering to a laptop you wont miss HSDPA as the media net portal doesn't really allow HSDPA or now HSPA to show its full potential, and yes the N-75 has A2DP stereo bluetooth. Infact Im going to retire my 8525 as soon as my N-75 arrives

great looking phone, but it's only gsm 900/1800/1900 and umts 2100... not all that useful here in the U.S....

i think my vote goes with the v3xx. The n75's battery life is killing me.

This phone is coming att/cingular branded? When?

Posted by: mulletwireless

I have had the N 75 for a few days and so far so good. The display is the best so far for AT&T to date! The lack of a bigger battery is my only issue with it. I had to make sure it was zeroed out, then let it charge fully.

Posted by: odpalarm

I say the N75 because the V3XX is only tri-band. Just wait until you try and go out if the county with that sad phone. Come on Moto make only quad band phones!

I am still on the edge with the n75, today is only my 2nd day with it. Here are my quirks with it. I am just upgrading from the 6682(have had samsungs and motos too). I am not a huge fan of the huge keypad, I feel like there is so much wasted space around the keys and screen. It seems almost slower than my 6682, if I am doing stuff on outside screen and open it up, there is a decent delay for the main screen to catch up.The camera should be much better. It has the slowest shutter speed, I push the button then about 2 seconds later it finally takes the pic even after the sound. So whoever I'm taking a picture of moves and picture is ruined. However the pictures weren't bad of still shots if I hold still for a while.

I really like Symbian, and getting familier with it took no time at all. However one thing I cant figure out is when going threw the Contacts, Say I am trying to jump to 'Matt', and I have 'Amanda' and also 'Amandas Mom', well i type in "M" and 'Amandas Mom' will still be first on the list. With my 6682 it would jump straight to Matt. I tried changing a few settings and I cant get it fixed. Any thoughts?

The screen is very nice, and I love the fact that it is sunken in, so over time you will not have the keypad engraved on the screen from closing it over time. The buttons on the side feel a little cheap. I find the Camera button very stiff and hard to push unless I get that sweet spot. I really like how you can view messages from the outside screen without opening it and the other things it can do.

Overall I would pick this over the V3xx, I do not have 3g in my area just yet so that doesn't matter. Battery I am still testing out, the first day I got ****** time out of it but only changed for a short time. After a full charge, been about 15 hours with playing with it a good amount of day, music and internet, about 20 mins of calls, transfering a fair amount of music to it I am still at full battery. I am going to leave it unplugged as long as possible now, we will see how it is in the morning, my guess is it will be low in the morning. If I can get to tomorrow night I will be more than satisfied. I am never away from a charger for more than 2 days anyways.

So I am still not sure if I am gonna keep the n75, but there isn't anything att offers that I would want to trade it in for. Maybe I will just keep it and sell it when a new unlocked phone comes out that I want to get a hold of....

question. i have the 6131 with media max 19.99 unlimited data plan. if i were to get hspda phone could i not use it while tethering? also, are there comparable 3g hspda plans to edge data plans? or how about just comparable edge data to 3g (n75) plans? i am thinking of finally going 3g and want the n75, but dont want to pay higher phone bills for doing the same functinos via data.

For the N75 the preferred data plan is the MediaMax 200 at $20 per month.
