I hope this question is okay to ask. I'm new but see that unlocking questions are discouraged unless they're "complex unlocking issues" which I think mine is.

First off, my phone is from Mexico, from TELCEL and is locked to them.

I am in Toronto, Canada, where the GSM network is Rogers.

I bought an unlock code from an unlocking service and was told to enter it after inserting a SIM from a provider that wasn't who the phone was locked to. I inserted a Rogers Sim Card and also tried a Fido Sim Card and both times the phone told me "No Sim" (I made certain it was inserted correctly).

While that message is displayed the phone will not allow any number buttons to be pressed except 9 and 1 (for 911, I assume).

So... any suggestions on how I can get this phone unlocked when I can't enter the code? I emailed a few other unlocking companies and they all told me the same procedure.

Further, when I run the "undocumented codes" on this page (480 and 481), the phone DOES list Rogers as the carrier (display says ROGERS 302720), which I assume is a good sign.

Lastly, and I don't know if this is relevant, the display has a small X inside a circle in the top right hand corner. I don't know what that means.

Any suggestions? And sorry if these are stupid questions--I've actually never owned a cell phone before.

I'm in the same situation, except that the unlocking service on eBay I tried said that they couldn't find my IMEI in their database. They haven't responded since I confirmed that the IMEI was correct.

Here's what I get with my phone.

With T-Mobile SIM–
Startup animation plays.
"TELCEL" displays for ~5 seconds.
"No SIM 3-020" displays for ~5 seconds.
Screen is left with only the vibrate icon and the small "x".
I am only able to enter the numbers 1, 0, and 9.

With no SIM–
Startup animation plays.
"TELCEL" displays for ~5 seconds.
"No SIM 3-020" displays for ~5 seconds.
Screen is left displaying "No SIM," the vibrate icon, and the small "x".
I am only able to enter the numbers 1, 0, and 9.

I can't figure out how to successfully enter the advanced codes.

I'm pretty confident that we should be able to get these things working, we just have to figure out where to get the right codes, and how to enter them.

I too have a locked Motofone F3 from TelCel in Mexico. However I was able to get an unlock code from an Ebay auction after I gave them my IMEI. I was not able to type it in though.

I sent an email to the guy who I bought the unlock code from, I hope he can be of help but I doubt it. When no SIM is in the phone (or a non-TelCel SIM) it will only let my type 0-6-0 in that order which is different than the 9-1-1 you could type.
