What to say to get a MSL from Bell?

Hey all,

I've been trying a few times this morning to get the MSL from Bell for my m610...let's just say I musn't be saying the right thing! The first tech support girl told me that they don't have access to those numbers, only retail locations do (total lie, as far as I can tell) and the second guy asked me specifically what I would need it for. I musn't have said the right thing there either because he told me Bell doesn't support third-party websites.

What do you ask/tell them when asking for the MSL from Bell tech support?

Thanks for any help.

jon.

They don't like to give that out for just any reason, esp if they think you are going to re-program your phone for another network.. However, they will give it to you if you need to do some re-programming yourself durring troubleshooting on the phone.. I got one once that way, but I was actually having problems and they wanted me to check the settings in the phone.. haha..

maybe you can try and say your phone doesn't make calls anymore, and then eventually they might get to the point of having you check your network settings, in doing that, you will get the MSL.. but no guarantee it'll work.. you'll have to play kinda dumb tho, so they don't thinkl you'll go using that code again..

Thanks for the tips! I'll give them a try. I have to call Bell back today because of an issue I'm having with the free 2gb memory card I got with the phone (it isn't recognised).

Does anyone know of a way to get an MSL from the m610 without going through Bell? I heard you can find it with BitPim, but that software doesn't recognise the m610 yet. Can anyone think of something else?

Basically I'm trying to upload some apps to my phone, and using an online uploader isn't really an option because of my rate plan. Is there another way to get things into your phone's memory or is there different software that can help? I'm looking for the MSL because I heard that you need it to access your phone through QPST. Is that rue?

Sorry for all the questions...I'm new at this! Thanks.

Just call them and tell them you need to program your phone. They'll gladly give you the code, at least, for me anyways.

Just don't be pissed if you mess something up and they can't fix it.

The BY FAR easiest way is the following... and this has worked twice for me on both my initial activation AND my HUP :

1) walk into a store with nice CS ppl
2) talk to them and make them feel comfortable with you
- #2 is the tricky one, because you need ppl skills, no i'm not talking about social engineering... just the basic ability to carry a conversation with ppl who are most likely very bored when you come in and would DIE to have someone interesting to talk to

3) ask for the MSL
- most likely they will tell you they are not allowed to give it to you... no problem, this is where you do a playful wink and carry on

4) while they program your phone, walk... yes... WALK behind the counter and stand beside them and LOOK AT THE COMPUTER SCREEN

5) at this point, you've made it clear that you are friendly and a great customer also, subconsciously they already know what you're looking at .. but don't care

6) memorize an easy 6 digit number... or just pretend to be texting on your old phone
BINGO -> MSL

Just call them and say you are going to go overseas and you need your MDN to be associated with your ESN..

They gave me right away

Thanks for all your tips and tricks guys...I finally got my SPC for my m610 through UniCDMA!! It took a bit of tweaking and disabling of features in Device Manager ("Samsung CDMA Modem" needed to be disabled in the modem drop down list, while leaving "Samsung CDMA Modem Diagnostic" where it was in the "Com Port" drop down list) but I finally got UniCDMA to recognise my phone and I got the SPC! Once that was done, it's been a cinch to access my phone through QPST, and add games (haven't added any custom ringers yet, but it shouldn't be a problem at all, that's next on the list)

Thanks again. There is so much good information in these forums...it's unreal!!

A big thanks to duggyb and his thread about the a920 hack! It was great, especially the troubleshooting that was going on in the following pages.

Dang, I went the "associate MDN with ESN route" but the person helping me said she was certain that the TG800 (CX800?) needed no reprogramming at all to work in Asia...

Annoying but I'm wondering how much having the MSL would help me anyways.

Anyone have any other potentially simple ways of getting it?

or just ask me for the MSL and I'll outright just give it to you
just PM me your ESNs

how do we know you are legit tho?

oh, and now that you'e said this, (assuming you are legit working for Bell) you're going to get bombarded with other Bell Employee's on here complaining that you're 'violating the companies policies' blah blah..

thanks for the offers tho nice to know some Bell ppl can be cool..

how do you know im legit.. cause you can try the lock code for yourself seconds after I give it to you?

I personally dont see the whole broo haha of hiding a MSL anyways.. the point? whoopy doo.. ur still paying for the service still making bell happy.. whats their concern if you **** up your phone.. lol I dunno just my two cents

I downloaded that UniCDMA program, connected my phone and it found everything!! I clicked on Write SPC and this is what appears in the box thing:

I set Mode to LG. What would you suggest I tweak/modify to get my SPC code to appear?

just call and say "I have a phone book program for my computer that allows me to back up my contacts. i did it on my other phone but i need some 6 digit code i was just wondering if i could get that code again". Just pretend like you have no idea what you are doing. But you really want to use this program because if works great. if they ask for a name just make up somthing like easy contact back up or something like. Call from your cell phone makes it easyer for the tech. You don't need your MLS you need the SPC code its a 6 digit number hidden in your esn number.

i ve used that one for 3 phones now worked every time.
