W810i phone turns on but nothing happens

I need help. My cousins phone all of a sudden stopped working. The phone turns on, the background shows sometimes. The sound setting, battery and reception bars show at the top.

I was reading around and didn't find much on the problem. Is there anyway I can fix this phone wihtout flashing it. The menues won't open up. I can change the sound settings when I press the power button but I can't see the words. Only Select and ok pop up.

I've only worked on motorolas and nokias. are sonys easy to flash.

Please help me. I really would like to fix this problem without flashing. I don't now if should want a whole different phone. It is unbrannded from Greece.

This sounds like a classic case of your layout.xml getting deleted. If the phone can receive calls and seems to operate normally with the exception of most text not being visible, that's probably the issue.

Did you do a master reset? Update with SEUS?

Both of these have been known to cause this issue if the phone is not configured properly. Probably whoever did the debranding did not know/forgot to set layout.xml readonly.

What you'll need to do is read up here and on se-nse about the FAR+SEFP method, in order to get full acess to the phone's internal filesystem. From there you'll need to navigate to /tpa/preset/system/layout and upload a new layout.xml (preferably set read-only so it wont get deleted again)

If the phone is being used with cingular, you may want to wait a day. I've finished my latest w810i cingular mod pack and i'm writing step-by-step instructions with pictures right now. Should be a no-brainer to follow.

I'm not sure what she did. I'll ask and see if she used SEUS at all.don't think she did a master reset. I I have to pick up the carger from her, the batterey went out yesterday. The phone is unbrannded from the factory like 90% of the phones in europe. Do you think if I do a master reset it'll fix the problem. the only thing is that I don't think I con get into the menue at all to get there. I can't see anything but the reception and battery bars, and the waallpaper.

Unfortunatly a master reset will not fix the problem. A file is missing from the phone and the only way to get it back is to upload it manually

If you don't want to hassle with the FAR+SEFP method, you could charge the battery up fully and use PhoneXS' brute force method to upload the file with FSX. It is a much easier process however can take up to 10 hours. I also do not know if PhoneXS will preserve the read-only status of the file. (If it doesn't, this will happen again eventually)

FAR+SEFP Worked for me. It was way easy. Thanks a lot. If you know which flash I can use to get Greek back on the phone that'll help. I just used the Generic one and it started freezing on me so I flashed the hongkong on there. It's fine now but there's no greek. anything helps.
