Premier: Blackjack Refurb $49

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: mferni

Not sure if this is news, but on Premier this morning, refurb blackjack is $49.00.

Posted by: jglev

Holy crap! That is an amazing price for that phone. I bought one a couple of weeks ago for $125. It was in perfect condition, not a blemish on it. If they told me it was brand new, I would not have questioned it. It came with two standard batteries, but Cingular offers a free extended battery. I applied for the free extended battery and it was approved and mailed a few days ago, so I will have three batteries. It looks like even the price of the brand new BJ's have gone down. I wonder if they are trying to clear inventory before the Moto Q9's are released.

Posted by: Ant

thanks for the heads up! just ordered a new toy!

Posted by: guapinoy

i also took the deal...too good to pass up

Posted by: AsahiToro

Well, with all of the alleged issues and question marks with the N75 and nothing else really appealing out there, I just picked up a $49 refurb BJ myself. You can get it for $49 w/contract on the non-Premier Cingular site as well. I should have bought one a month or so ago when they were around $99 but I got caught up in the 'N75 should be released anyday crowd' that lasted way too long. Getting the BJ @ $49 is a no brainer since my Audiovox 5600 is on it's last legs. I have three phones on my family plan and I still have an upgrade left so if the iPhone, the new Motorola q9 or something else comes out this summer, I can still grab one of those. I think I'll wait for the second generation iPhone though that will hopefully have 3.5G, a few other goodies and any kinks worked out. The BJ should serve me fine until then. When WM6 comes out, will it be a free upgrade to us current BJ owners? Will the refurbs be AT&T branded? Also, what's the best case for a BJ? I carry my phone on my hip/belt. It's looking like a horizontal case is the way to go (beer gut here).

by the way the e62 refurbished...free!

What is the website for the blackjack?

i'd much rather have a blackjack than a moto q anyday, even when they do go down to $49 on the new ones and free on the refurbs next month.

what kind of warranty do you get with buying refurb phones from cingular.com or on premiere? does the 30 day return policy still apply? thanks

can someone refer to my posts in this thread: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1140822

in order to help me understand the premier account better. I just tried to place and order and my order was canceled for reasons that no one at cingular could explain.

That is the 6th phone in 3 months that I got through Premier (I have 4 lines on the family plan though)

Well had to jump on the bandwagon for this deal. Just got out of contract though so it'll be interesting to see if my premiere purchase renews that or not. Have been thinking of the Treo 750, but at this price it is worth it if I like the phone. Plus with a 30 day trial period i'm not screwed if I really don't like WM Smartphone. Well time to start learning about the new OS while I wait for this phone.

Posted by: nawaf88

do you guys think we can use the $100 rebate on the cingular website for the non refurb phone for this?

Posted by: guapinoy

i heard that the phone comes in a white box instead of the retail...so no UPC no rebate right? I'll find out if there one when i get it tomorrow

Posted by: chazhick

Does it come with a 1 year warranty like the new phones do?

Posted by: jdlamay

Just ordered mine. I was upset when I couldnt get in on the $99 refurb a month or so ago, now I'm glad

Posted by: tank27

Holy crap. i got the 8125 when it was $80 and thought that was a deal. the blackjack @ $50 is unbelieveable. now to decide which phone to use.

Can i sell the 8125 if i dont want it?

Posted by: petard

It comes in a white box that is exactly the same as the orange refurb boxes (other then the coloring and writing)
The UPC was never PART of the orange refurb boxes, it was a sticker placed on.
Same thing with these white boxes, the UPC is a sticker (I am looking at mine now).

omapclock ..do a search for a post thats like how to under or overclock the blackjack...

gives you step by step and linked to the files you need to do it.

I just tried to get the rebate offer for the free extended battery and it said that my IMEI code isn't valid. I haven't activated or even turned the phone on yet. I just got it and was charging it first before I do anything. Does it need to be activated for the rebate to qualify or is this rebate for the extended batteries no good on the refurbs?

Hopefully I'm not SOL.

Posted by: Jacob Morgan

went through for me fine, just waiting on delivery now.

I'd get the phone going and try again, if not call a CS rep.

– IMEIs between 352794010030189 - 352794012269959 are eligible for this offer

mine worked

Posted by: Lister00169

Just ordered mine via Premier for $68 shipped (includes taxes).

I called the stores to see if I could take advantage of the rebates offered in store, but I am not near the end of my contract.

Thank the stars for Premier!

Posted by: timhow

Maybe a dumb question....are the refurbs still Cingular branded?

Someone said you can upgrade with Premier 4 times a year. It that adding a 2 year contract each time?

Mine is 3527940131-----, so is it not possible to get the free battery upgrade? Doesn't make sense to not give it to all customers with the 2 small batteries.

For those who purchased the BJ for $49, did you have to extend your service agreement for another 2 years?

Not if your Premier Account allows Device Upgrade Only. If your plan allows it, it will appear as a button at the top of the screen.

Posted by: Venomized

Quick question: Do the refurb phones look "NEW"? I currently have a BJ. But mine is scuffed up on the screen because of having it while playing a little shoot around basketball. For $49, I don't mind buying a refurb as long as there is no downfall with software and it's not scuffed up or looking raggidy. Thanks.

Posted by: spartanrob

The 2 I got were as good as new.

Posted by: jbzcar

I finally saw one in person on display at Wal-Mart and immediately went home and placed my order on Premier. Hopefully my "new" Blackjack wil get here tomorow!

Posted by: tank27

I had to call and register my imei before i could get on the internet. i did have an older sim card if that mettered and had to register the new one

I don't think that's always true. I never had to upgrade my plan, but Cingular still extended the contract for two phones I picked up. They forgot to extend it from my blackjack order though

Ya I got a new 3G sim (already put in the phone even ), but all I had to do was call the activation # and put in my phone #. I expected to have to give someone numbers! But the other two phones I got that came w/new sims wanted me to speak to a rep.

The one I received has Cingular branding on it.

my blackjack was processed and shipped yesterday. should be here monday. can't wait!

Posted by: didefresh2006

I bought refurbs before, they're almost like new. Good quality. However, they were prepaid phones.

Posted by: Bklyn Bruiser

I just got my 2 Blackjacks (refurb) and there is NO WAY you can tell they are not new. Both Cingular branded. So far very happy with it.

Hey guys, I understand that if I buy this BJ refurb my cingular contract gets extended for 2 more years, right? I'm currently going month to month as my contract came up in February. And just so I'm clear, if I decide to upgrade to the HTC 4550 when it comes out in a few months that won't be a problem...all that happens is my contract will be extended for another 2 years from the date of that purchase? For $50 it seems like a great price, and I think it would be cool to play with the Blackjack for a few months since my Treo 650 is in pretty bad shape these days. Thanks!

Yes. However, you'll have to pay full price for the HTC 4550 if you get the blackjack now unless there's some way you can do it on premier.

Crap...I guess I thought they would keep letting you get discounted phones as long as you agreed to continue to extend your contract another 2 years.

Since these phones use interchangeable SIM cards, can I buy the BJ as an "upgrade" for one of my other phones on my family plan and then just put my SIM in it? I have a 4 line family plan, and two of the lines are out of contract, while two just signed up in January. The website shows that the 2 out of contract lines are eligible for discounted upgrades now, while the other 2 will be eligible in July 08.

As much as I'd like to play with the BJ for a while, I don't want it at the expense of paying $200 extra on the 4550.

It depends on your company's agreement with a t & t. What applies to one premire customer does not always apply to another. I can upgrade anytime and as frequently as I'd like and I still get the discounted prices. I've gotten about 12 phones through premier over the past year.

Posted by: tank27

ok first refurb i got didnt work quite right.. it would show how ever many bards it had when i turned the phone on and it never updated itself. secong one is brand new looking everything is fine.

I'm not on a corporate account. Pretty nice that you have gotten so many phones this year. Any idea how I can find out what my agreement is?

That's what i'd do. But you can also take advantage of an extra line for $9.99 a month. I have 5 lines on my account and my mom was eligible for an upgrade but my bro wasn't (this was before christmas), and when my bro's contract is eligible in a month and a half, my mom can have his upgrade. Her phone is still good even now and she'll use it even after she upgrades to the red sync.

The family plan kicks! I needed another line for work and the other day I got the blue sync for $28.88 (wal-mart's price)...hey, it beats paying prepaid for at least $30 + a month when you can share a pool of minutes for $9.99 a month extra (and $5 for insurance--hey, maybe i'll add the media net plan 400 on that line and it'll still end up cheaper than prepaid--but I guess I can switch sim cards if I need to since I have MEdia max on my 1st line). And less than $200 for 5 lines aren't bad for everybody in the house including my 2nd line.

I don't know why people always down the samsung phones...they are the bomb! I can't put the blue sync down for more than 5 minutes....

The CINGULAR premier site is shady at best, stright up fraud at worst. If you look at the standard Cingular.com site, the MSRP's (or base prices as CINGULAR calls them) are on average $40 less. This gives the appearance of a larger discount on the premier site. I sent an email to Stan Sigman of CINGULAR and one of his assistants called me back right away. She said that they were unaware of that problem and would fix it right away....We will see.......There is also NO mention of the 2 year commitment on the Premier site,a fact that I brought to CINGULARS attention and in return they took me off the 2 year contract

Your last 11 posts have been like this. (http://howardforums.com/search.php?...r&userid=637970)

When pay day comes around next week, I'll be getting this baby off of Premier if it's still there. I wanted the 8125 refurb, and when I went to look for it and buy it, the price was bumped up $20 and it was out of stock.

Ok, i'm trying to buy a blackjack through cingular premier site. they are making me add on a PDA connect plan b/c of my company policy-blah blah blah. my question is this: if i go ahead and add the pda connect plan, is it a contract binding like a new voice plan? or is it considered an add-on like text messaging or mediamax? the point is, can i let them go ahead and add it and then take it off a week later or am i tied to a contract and have to have it on for a certain amount of time? thanks!

I asked a Cingular employee in a store this same question and he said you need to have the PDA plan for 6 months. Maybe he's wrong and you can remove it right away. I couldn't find any documentation one way or the other.

Posted by: bigddybn

Select a regular phone. Add the rate plan and medianet plan of your choice. At the order confirmation screen select "change phone" or whatever. Select the blackjack. Have a nice day.

No PDA plan needed.

bigddybn:
That would be great if it worked. Unfortunately, it does not. (Fingers crossed on removing it once the phone gets here).

yep it works.
but its a hassle.

i believe it isnt binding, only if its not added as a rate plan. if pda connect was added as a feature add-on plan, you can drop that anytime.

better yet
try to find another corporate or school acct.
school accounts work better

any way to know for sure what i'm really signing up for?

why is cingular so shady??

Posted by: jbzcar

Well I got my $49 Blackjack on Friday and I am loving it so far. Battery life was initially not that good, but a few tricks I found have improved it. Locking the phone to GSM mode and disabling IR helped quite a bit. After about 8 hours of regular usage, my battery was only down to about 85%. The day before, with similar usage, I was only showing one bar on the battery meter of the Home Screen at that point.

This is quite a powerful little device, and I am still trying to figure out what exactly I want to do with it functionally.

I was quite happy when I found a "universal / RAZR" horizontal leather slip-in case with a magnetic flap that happens to provide quite a snug fit. There was another that allowed the BJ to slide in easier, but it looked huge in comparison. It was only $9 at my local H.E.B.

So now I have one case that works for both my V3xx and Blackjack.

yea, i was also wondering this.

when i was in store (cingular direct retailer), they gave me this feeling that i was buying the phone outright (no contract) for its full price and receiving my corporate (premier) discount on the phone from its full price.

which would result in a price near or beating the 2yr contract pricing, without no extension.

now, upon reading here..i feel like none of this was true. can someone clarify?

Posted by: campas12

they may be shady or just dumb.

i added a feature to my plan on sunday night.
monday AM i try to order a phone. they said it's good to go. few hours later it get's cancelled with the message

"Unfortunately, we cannot process your order because you have either upgraded your device/service in the last 24 hours or have upgraded your device/service more than 4 times within the last 12 months."

i call them up to double check to see if it's because of the service upgrade. the lady proceeds to tell me it's because my orig. contract states i can't upgrade for another year. after 3 hours on phones with various reps, they basically tell me to screw myself.

around the evening time i go ahead and try it again...late night i get a "it's shipped" email. this AM i have it.

so basically it was because i changed service the night before, and the fools at customer service (even the business side) knew nothing.

hope u r right
i plan on keeping it a month just to be safe

would it better to have cs remove it or try olam?

so i too need some remedial info on the whole premier thing. I have a FAN associated with my account but when I try to create an account on the premier site by entering my work email it doesn't find anything. Am i doing something wrong? I'd love to pickup either a Blackjack or possible a Pearl at a good price if possible since my 6682's voice recognition when using bluetooth is basically crap and I've gotten big intot texting of late so a better keyboard would be a plus.

Not all FANs get premiere access. For example I worked for one company that I was able to get a FAN sponsorship through the company that had our wireless phone account. I got a service discount off my bill but that FAN apparently had no equipment discounts (no premiere.)
However, that doesn't mean that's your case. It could just not like your email address. Maybe the company has more than one email domain name and it doesn't like yours.
I sent you a PM with something you can try.

around the evening time i go ahead and try it again...late night i get a "it's shipped" email. this AM i have it.

so basically it was because i changed service the night before, and the fools at customer service (even the business side) knew nothing.
I have been told by several people that if your order fails, try again the next day, the next week, etc. and eventually it usually goes through. It's a bit of a mystery why. Maybe you identified one of the causes. Or maybe it's just who fills the order. Who knows.
But the point: if it doesn't work, try again, and again, until it works.
