Getting a W810i, questions about debranding

Basically I have a few questions (this is my first SE). I want to be able to do the following:

-Remove the Cingular crap they put on the phone
-Use MP3 as a ring tone

Will using Davinci accomplish this for me? Is there a free alternative? Thanks!

yes that will do the trick, but you have to pay money.
you can do it for free using one of the methods on this board.

That is right. Check out the Tutorial and stuff from Da_G. Teh w00t as a kid would say. Absolutely fantastic stuff and it keeps getting better. I'm going to flash mine again today.

The phone isn't bad without adjustment but with this stuff it is great. I originally debranded mine with Wotan Server so I have seen it with S/E firmware. Humble opinion is Cingular firmware is fine and has some advantages if you fix the garbage. Most of the Cingy stuff is ignorable but Jack Splat key is not and is far superior when JS brings up Activity Menu rather than trotting off to spend money.

Well the stuff I would wanna get rid of is the cingular mall, music garbage. Anything useful I would like to keep

you loose AIM / other Im programs and push email. BUT you do get a POP email client.

Thats if you debrand with Wotan or davinci ..

How difficult is it doing it yourself? I'm used to motorola so for me it is unfamiliar territory

I'd go with Davinci but I always prefer free

The cingular mall in my new pack is supplemented with sony ericsson's default wap pages, making it actually useful! I was going to get rid of it altogether but my goal was to remove the cingular limitations without removing any of the functionality, so it was a good comprimise.

I've written a new menu that replaces Mobile Email with Gmail.. what should cingular mall be replaced by?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, there's no reason you can't use the IM programs on an unbranded firmware, while on cingular's service. The My Friends program is standard on many cell phones, take a look here:

All you need to do is rip out the relevant strings from the cingular customize.xml, modify them slightly to work with a generic firmware, and add them to your customize.xml.. bam!
