I still have a legacy TDMA line and coverage is starting to get spotty. I do a lot of travelling in the Western U.S. in areas where population is scarce. Therefore, GSM towers are likely to be few and far between. I use a Wilson Electronics Direct Connect antenna amp and it has worked fine for TDMA. I've got to start looking for, either another phone, or another carrier. If I stay with Cingular, what phones will get the best reception? Antenna ports are being used less on phones. Can anyone tell me What Cingular phone will pull in a signal and push it out with some oomph? Hopefully, one of them will have the port that I need.
Thanks,

The Motorola V551/557 series phones where great handsets and had a good port on them for your external antenna setup!

Depending on how much you want a phone that's likely similar to the one you have (perhaps a Nokia 5165???) you can use the Nokia 6340i (the GAIT phone, as it was called).
You could get a 3G SIM card and have the phone activated as a straight GSM phone (even though it has TDMA and AMPS capability). This is a phone you'd have to get on EBAY, as it's not been offered in stores since late 2004/early 2005. Many brand new copies are still out there, believe it or not.
It has good signal, an antenna port on the back, and is as reliable as can be. If you've been using a Nokia 5165 plus external antenna, that adapter will work with the 6340i.
I admit it - I still use mine. I use a cell phone to talk and nothing else, so I'm an alien prancing around inside a forum like this
Keep in mind this is a BASIC phone - few frills by 2007 standards. This is a phone that first came out in (I think) 2002, so in cellular years that is like the Lincoln Administration is to present day politics. I mention it since you bring up function and not form as what you are looking for.
