Software Upgrade Failed

Here is my problem, I submited this to UT Starcom:

"I recently purchased a Verizon XV6700 and attempted to upgrade the software with a program from your website. I downloaded and opened "AKU2.X Fix Application". The program showed me my current version and the version to be loaded. I pressed next/continue and the phone restarted. The program on my PC then said it has lost connection with the XV6700 and to check the power and everything then retry. Well now my phone is stuck on a screen that says "Serial v1.00" when not plugged in and "USB v1.00" when plugged in to the USB. However, my computer and your program no longer recognize that the XV6700 is plugged in. I attempted to visit a Verizon store, he referred me to Verizon Tech support via the phone in which referred me to UTStarcom. I have attempted to soft and hard reset it. It says press Y to reset, I press Y and it reboots to the "Serial v1.00" screen."

Anyone else have this problem?

Looks like issues could be using a USB hub or port replicator. Or, just try using a different USB port. There's several pages about it here:

After trying everything to have my phone get out of the black screen with USB/Serial v1.00 on my Verizon XV6700 (which basically meant it was in bootloader mode), the answer was to simply do 3 things:

1st - Go to the UTStarcom website and find the ROM/firmware version that works with my phone. I downloaded and ran that upgrade which basically sent files to my phone (even though the computer didn't 'appear' to recognize the usb connection). As I was already in bootloader mode, it was able to sent the files to the phone.
2nd - Download and execute the uni_exitbootloadermode.exe which you will be able to google and find easily.
3rd - If the phone doesn't boot up on it's own after the uni_exitbootloadermode finishes, do a hard reset.....by holding down the two "-" buttons along with the power button at the same time as hitting the soft reset button at the bottom of the phone with a paper clip. It will the ask you to press 'N' or 'Y' on your keyboard. I recommend hitting 'Y'. You will lose all your applications...but at least you get the phone back. After the phone is back....you can simply run active_sync which will reinstall all your applications.

If you have the unresponsive black screen on your phone....DON'T PANIC!
It is very difficult to screw up a phone/PDA to the point of unrecovery.

My issue seemed to be Windows Vista. I loaded the software from UTStarcom's website on my dad's XP system, the phone took approx 20 mins to flash and all is well.

Yo answerman you try out clean and simple 3.5 yet? Got my 6700 and bad mini usb port getting another Monday. Going to try that out after I look at MMS on it.

I'm suprised that most have not realized that your program but the phone in boot loader for a reason.
My suggestion
1. install active sync 4. something
2. hook up the pda to computer. make sure it says usb. This means your computer can talk to the pda now.
3. Run the Rom update utility or the program you mentioned.
4. It should communicate with your device and continue what it was doing.

I know this because i tried to update my rom, and it went to bootloader. I didn't realize it until later that my computer put it in bootloader so it could run the software.

That's the version I've been running for the past couple of months.. haven't gotten to downloading the kitchen and creating my own Alltel version yet. One of these days...

I understand that the phone needs to be in bootloader mode. The OP's problem is that the communication fails after the update exe resets the phone to bootloader mode. This is a documented issue with the Verizon version of the update and is explained very well at the link I posted above.

Heck, I know bootloader mode like the back of my hand... been through about 8 custom AKUs multiple times before I settled on the one I have. Clean and Simple is the way to go if you want a fast and very stable phone.
