Help with S620 keys not working...is mine defective?!?!

I bought an S620, and the J, K, and L keys do not appear to be working at all.
The HTC support site said to:
1. Check if any button is stuck or if there is obvious cosmetic damage on any buttons.
2. Close unused running applications.
3. Perform a soft rest (PDA phone) or re-boot the device (Smartphone) and test again.
4. Remove unnecessary PIM data or uninstall unused applications.
5. Perform a hard rest (PDA phone) or return to default settings (Smartphone) and test again.
6. Perform OS upgrade to the latest version and test again.
I did all that, and nothing worked. The next step is to locate my country's repair center.
Is there something going on here that would cause this, or is my phone defective?

I had the same problem when I first got the phone. However, after I installed Mobile 6 the keys are now working properly.

Is there anywhere other than the T-Mobile USA website where I would be able to get the WM6 ROM? The T-Mobile USA site asks me for a T-Mobile phone number which I do not have, I'm on Cingular.

There are multiple copies making the rounds, but I unfortunately for you, used the US T-mobile site. I'd do some more sleuthing to find a copy...its really great if you get it.

So, I've got myself copies of the T-Mobile USA WM6 rom, and also the original HTC WM5 rom in case flashing to the T-Mo WM6 rom doesn't make the keyboard work.
Does anyone know if, after installing the WM6 rom, it does not get the keyboard working, will I be able to "downgrade" back to the WM5 rom?

If you have the WM5 rom, you could easily flash back. It's the same process as upgrading to WM6.

I tried to install the WM6 rom but got an invalid device error message. Is there something I need to unlock before I can install?

CID unlock your phone first.

Search is your friend.

Yeah I did some looking around, my apologies for the dumb question before.
CID unlock appears to require a code from imei-check, which as far as I can tell costs money, and I have no guarantees that flashing to the T-Mo WM6 rom will help. Plus the reason I bought an S620 instead of a Dash that had been unlocked was so I wouldn't have all the T-Mobile junk in there.
The other part of this story is I bought the phone by making an offer by email to a seller on an ebay auction that had already ended. Plus side was I got a great price, but I forgot to ask them to put through a new auction for me to "win" so I have absolutely no way to leave them negative feedback. Needless to say they have not replied to any of my emails since I received the package.
I figured I'd make the most of the situation and sent the phone to Omnicom which is apparently a well-recommended repair center. I should have the phone back some time next week, and with a fully functional keyboard. In the meantime I'll make do with my 3125.

Update:
Omnicom say they have repaired the phone and it's on its way back to me. Should be here on thursday. They were very good about updating me each step along the way.
Will let you folks know how the repairs turned out.
