Help with Samsung E898

I' m sorry if this is in the wrong section but I have a huge problem. I recent got the Samsung E898 unlocked for Cingular. Basicially my phone keeps switching from the "Cingular Network" to the "Cingular Extend Network". Sometimes I get signal from neither. Doesn't anyone have a solution or any insight to this?

Heres the phone if it helps:

Thanks in advance.

I am guessing the issue is that your phone lacks the 850mhz frequency and you local calling area does rely mostly on 850mhz. Your phone is switching to off-network when the native 1900mhz frequency is not available. Nothing anyone can do to fix that problem. Nice phone, though.

darns... i hoped it wouldn't be a 850 issue =( but i guess it is... is the 850 ever gonna be gone? esp. w/ AT&T buy out.

The change to AT&T is simply a name change, not a buyout. The company once called SBC bought AT&T some time ago and changed its name to AT&T, but since its wireless division, Cingular, was 40% owned by Bellsouth, could not rebrand Cingular until it finally bought Bellsouth and, along with it, Bellsouth's stake in Cingular.

No, 850 is not going anywhere. Why would it? Coverage on 850 is superior to coverage at 1900.

Yes this is in the wrong forum. Up above you'll see the phone and data card subforums. Thats where this thread should be.
