BB with unlimited data?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I currently have a 8525 with unlimited data and I'm thinking of getting a BB to try. I'm not sure which model yet. Will I be able to use the BB with the unlimited data? Check emails, internet, etc.?

Blackberries need a Blackberry plan for anything other than voice and short messages.

But...from what I have been told, I can still use my Treo or E50 with the Blackberry plan along with a Blackberrry...and still enjoy unlimited data. Is this true?

I am seriously considering the new BB 8300 when it comes out later this month...but want to hang onto my other two smartphones as well.

Wrong , if you want to flip between your 2 phones with mmunlimited you can. BB's need BBPlan for BB specific stuff otherwise for browsing and whatnot you can use MMUnlimited.

What's MMUnlimited?
So BB will work with unlimited data, that's for the 8525, blackjack, etc? Will I still be able to get emails?

The Blackberry's built-in browser with only work if the appropriate Service Book from the Blackberry network is activated. The same thing goes for email and MMS. You would have to download the Java-based Opera Mini with a PC and send it to your Blackberry. You cannot get online to download it directly because the built-in browser will not work without a Blackberry data package.

These are the features controlled by Blackberry Service books:

This is why I think BB's are a joke unless you want the BB Mail or dont care to pay xtra just to send pic text messeges.

I beg to differ with you. BB is not a joke. It is a rock solid, bullet proof device. Email beats anything else hands down. As a business device, it can't be beaten IMHO.

I guess if you haven't figured it out you WILL have to switch to the blackberry plan to use data with the blackberry. But the blackberry plan will work on the 8525 (and Blackberry, both.)

MediaMax, Smartphone, PDA and latop plans only include wap.cingular and isp.cingular access points which all (non BB) phones and PDAs can and must use.

Blackberries must use a different access point I think called blackberry.net

Blackberry plans include both blackberry.net as well as wap.cingular. So they do work in all phones. Some also include isp.cingular, but you should never need that.

To use with BOTH a blackberry as well as an 8525, you are technically supposed to have "Blackberry for PDA connect". This is the plan that is designed for both an 8525 type PDA and a Blackberry.
But the Blackberry Personal is the cheapest BB plan ($30) and is the cheapest plan that will work on both (BB and no BB PDAs.)

I believe this list is accurate:
$30 BB Personal = blackberry.net, wap.cingular
$45 BB corporate = blackberry.net, wap.cingular
$45?/$50? BB for PDA connect = blackberry.net, wap.cingular, and isp.cingular
$70 BB International = blackberry.net, wap.cingular
$80 BB tethered = blackberry.net, wap.cingular, and isp.cingular
$20 Media Max and Smartphone Connect = wap.cingular only (no BB)
$40/$60 PDA Connect and Laptop Connect = wap.cingular and isp.cingular (no BB)
(Some of these plans are $5 less than listed when added as a 'feature' to an existing voice plan. These prices reflect that)

I figured out, when I was thinking about going the Blackberry 8800 route a while back...I would save $10 a month with the $29.99 BB Personal plan vs. my current PDA Connect Unltd. Data Plan at $39.99...and have the same functions with my Treo & Nokia. Saving money works for me.

I was seriously considering the N75 as my upgrade phone...but I believe it's the 8300 instead.

Sounds like a better way to spend smart money to me...
