I am starting to HATE Motorola

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I bought a brand new E815 on Ebay and it worked well until one day a green vertical line appeared on the screen. I called Moto and they said to send it in for repair under the warranty. It took a week to get it there, and then after 14 business days they sent me back a replacement.

However, instead of another E815, they send a V3m . I HATE the V3m, I bought the 815 because I wanted the Moto UI; the Verizon UI sucks.

So I call Moto and got someone who tells me I have to ship the phone back at my expense for them to have ANOTHER 14 business days to send me back an E815.

So, being the idiot that I am, I asked "if you can send me an E815 now that I've complained, why wasn't that done in the first place?" Needless to say she had no idea. She said the phone I have is of equal or greater value.

Sorry, I paid more than $19.99 for the one I sent in.

I am almost afraid of doing this as I probably won't get anything back this time. Those LGs are looking better all the time.

I've hated moto for nearly 5 successful years. It's been great.

In this situation you really have to just keep going above the head of the last person you spoke to.

Posted by: pcerio

It's a shame, because they make great phones

Posted by: Milkbone98

If you do wind up hating them, Ill gladly take that V3i off your hands

Posted by: pcerio

I haven't decided what to do with that phone. I got it in Nov 2006 and switched to Verizon in Feb 2007. Always carried in the leather case which I'd include. Most of the accessories have never been opened. Not a scratch on it, as close to new as you could ever find. If I remember right it came with a 1/2 gig SD card. PM me and maybe we can work something out.

V3M? Have you see the alltel flash thread?

Yes, I have the AllTel V3m flash file. The phone I was referring to, scratch free and all that is my Cingular V3i, which is a far better phone than the V3m. It's not hard to see why Verizon gives them away for free: they're pieces of ******.

If I do end up being stuck with a V3m, I will flash it and make the fixes. If I brick it I'll fry it and send it back for replacement. My warranty runs out in August.

Not those of us who want good reception. Especially those of us with AT&T. I have tried them all. SE, Samsung, LG, Nokia..etc. Motorola has definately got the best GSM radio and I can always count on being able to make calls with my V3xx when my fancy Nokia N75 wont even register the network.

I was referring to this. The only reason you bought the 815 was because you wanted the Moto UI. That's why I mentioned the Alltel flash. What other things besides the VZW UI do you have about the RAZR?

It seems much flimsier ad plasticy than the Cingular v3i I have. I have the v3m AllTel flash file and would have no problem doing it, except the time required to fix all the broken stuff left in the flash's wake.

Posted by: pcerio

Well, out of the blue, my E815 is back. somehow it went from the repair center to the repair center in TN, where, surprise-surprise, no problems were found. Whatever! I have it back, I'll have to live with it for now. They did upgrde the software to the latest version, maybe that'll fix my problems.

I was able to find some parts thru an HoFo member and maybe if the screen goes kaplooie again I can get my disassembly manual out and swap out screens. I just might like Moto again.

I had a slvr and a razr on the tmobile network. both sucked. wouldn't ring for half my incoming calls, poor clarity. switched to a nokia phone on the same network and am not having any more problems.

I've always hate Motos. Design wise, they do look better than SE's, but in every other aspect, they suck.

Posted by: CormasterMPX220

I feel the pain with motos. I had a MPx220 and while everyone complained about stupid little things that didn't matter like "low speaker phone volume" (who needs a speakerphone anyway?) I was pretty content. What I found the undoing of the phone was the wear and tear it took from its very shoddy plastic casing... I went through 3 of them before I gave up. With all the complaints about it i decided it was just the phone and not the company and gave moto another chance when I bought a V557 off ebay...and after 2 months of use, the antenna literally just fell off from normal wear and tear, and could not be reattached due to the fact the cheap threads that held it on stripped on their own. I tried to duct tape it on but eventually I went nuts over the constant dropped calls from its crappy antenna and tried to make a warrenty claim. Cingular told me it could not be exchanged because the Antenna was physical damage which I think is crap because its obvious that it was poor design quality on the antenna, so I took matters in my own hands and tried to use an old v551 of my friends and swap casings so it would hold its antenna on again. After 3 frustrating hours I had it back together but everytime i shut the lid it shut off. Out of frustration I threw the phone against the wall, picked its remains up and slammed it in my garbage can, and then got on ebay and bought a nokia 6030 and vowed never to buy a motorola ever again!

I did think about giving them another chance with VZ's Krzr but I decided to just stick with Cingular and get a samsung Sync instead.

Good job boy ! thats the way things should be haha!

I still say reception is key. My Nokia n75 and all the other Nokia's i have ever had, come nowhere close to the signal reception of a Motorola.
Nokia's do make good backup phones though.....

I have to completely argue with this claim.. on GSM nokia has the best reception of any phone, although the v3i that i had for T-Mobile was awesome, i would say it was better than my 6133, as long as i was on the phone first..

The moto would hold on as long as i was in a phone call, but if i was not it refused to keep the signal, whereas the nokia would generally find the weaker signal agan faster.. Now on CDMA, that's a different story.. Nokia is garbage and Motorola is king over all.. my Q and v3m are the best performing phones (too bad verizon ruined the v3m's interface )

god i would have hated to see those phones on cingular (sorry, but cingular here in central ohio sucks big time)

I live in a rural area, in a house with metal siding AND a metal roof, with a basement.
As far as AT&T goes, the ONLY phone I can use in the basement is the V3xx. The Nokia N75 cant even find a signal in the house.
My father also is also able to make calls from inside my house (he has the old V3 RAZR).
My mother's phone (Nokia 6030) makes a good doorstop here.

On another note, my brother in law's Sony Ericcson w710a doesnt get a signal inside the house either.

I know from experience that Motorola (at least here) is RF King.

Posted by: ace587

RF comes by experience, location plays a lot, so ill have to agree with baldi ^_^

I owned a Motorola A1200 and it was one of the worst phones i have ever had! I especially hated the mp3 player. it did not have its own unique music player, so it always had to open up real player, which took quite some time. also, if you want to use a song as an mp3 ringtone, the volume is so poor that you probably wont hear it while walking down a noisey steet. the touch screen qwerty keyboard was a nightmare. the phone could not keep up with my pace in typing, leading to many mispelled words even on fast touch mode. i am definitely not a motorola fan anymore.

Nokia for life!!!!!

Posted by: player911

Well let me toss in my 2 cents (i got a nickel), I recently owned these phones, in order:

Motorola V635
LG Cu500
Razr V3xx
Nokia N75
Samsung i607 Blackjack

My office at WORK is below street level and never got reception. We have a Nextel repeater for our work phones. No Service works down here... so I thought. The CU500 would constantly look for a signal and kill my battery before 5pm. The Razr V3xx dramatically had better signal. I could talk anywhere in my HOUSE now (bathroom was no longer a dead spot).

The V3xx (razr clone) sucked and lacked any real world functionality. I traded it for a N75 which got even better signal. I could continue a phone call driving to my house, which requires you to drive through a "dead spot". The Razr would even die there, but the N75 didn't. So another step up.

Well the N75 was a tad sluggish for me and I opted for the blackjack. Man! Not only has reception improved again, but I am able to get signal in my office at work. Granted reception isn't the greatest, but I still can send and receive text messages.

I don't even think I've had a dropped call since I got the blackjack. I must say, I'm VERY impressed.

Hmmmm. I would recommend the V3xx as a "phone" anyday over the sluggish, bulky and hunt for signal all day N75".

I have both. Have had 3 N75's and they all seem to have a signal fluctuation problem and very slow 3G.

I will recommend the V3xx over any other regular AT&T phone.

My wife and I had twin V551's, and the only real complaints we have/had (I've since gone to a 8525--all on Cingular/AT&T) is that battery life on the V551 was crap while using the Bluetooth headsets, and that the phone would randomly disconnect/kill the Bluetooth connection and service--and if it killed the service in the phone itself, the only solution would be to reboot the phone.

Oh, and the Motorola Bluetooth headsets themselves blew chunks--we upgraded to a pair of $30 Plantronics headsets, and have been completely happy with them.

Now to replace the wife's phone, because now the volume on the handset itself is so low you can't hear anything, even with the setting maxed out. And, no, no Motorola phones, ever again.

Posted by: mark10p

Ignore the Nok'y and SE fanboy's. They love to crawl all over the moto complaint threads .

Posted by: ace587

Its not a matter of fanboyism, people have different experiences and live in different locations which play a factor, doesnt mean a motorola worked for him, doesnt mean hes a nokia fanboy.

And this goes to you all, keep all the fanboy stuff to yourself.

All Nazis will be reported to the mods

i believe its everyones duty on HoFo to report bad posts, am i right?

OP hated moto, doesnt mean its bad for everyone. Im no mod, but not all mods can cover all of HoFo, premium members are encouraged to enforce rules without the mods presence

2 Years of Nextel gave me the same sentiments. Moto made network, Moto made phones... Moto through and through. *sigh*

Also...I HATE MOTOROLA

Posted by: Baldilocks

I have no problem with Motorola as I stated before Well, let's just say, I have no problem with their phones.

Their User Manual's could use a little work though... they are very cryptic and skip all over the place. Often more than not they mislabel the Ring and Vibe and Ring Then Vibe settings....

Moto needs to redesign, refresh and re-invent their User Manual publishing.

my first phone was a moto. meh thier ok, i guess.

I like motorola's phones, but they dont seem to innovate ideas much, they just play around with thhe designs and develop 1 UI for an entire line of cellphones.

Example: The Motorola w370, v176, and c261 all have the same UI!!!

when you say they "don't innovate much", do you mean now or ever? let me see.....the clamshell, making the first mobile phone, the RAZR, quadband, the new form factor in the Z8, iTap, etc.

I also think the RAZR2 is just as innovative as many phones coming out today. It certainly is a very impressive phone in V8 and V9 incarnations.

yup, there's them as well. actually, if anything, motorola are almost certainly the most innovative mobile phone company by a long long way.
admittedly, the UI could do with a revamp. not because it's bad, but because it's becoming a tad too stale these days. the phones being released by moto now are still pretty much similar to the old triplets UI, all those years ago. although many people love the customisation abilities, both in the menu and the seem editing possibilities, it could do with starting afresh.
