i have a treo 750 now and to be honest i am pretty unhappy with the way it works with gmail (i know about all the tricks and forwarding stuff but i dont want to use that). how is gmail with a blackberry?

What's the specific problem you're having with GMail?
I set up Gmail on my blackberry and when you send an email from GMail, it comes back as an email in the inbox if that's what you're asking.
Otherwise it works just fine, pretty much as you would exect email to.
Pretty no-fus configuation. Just enter your gmail address and password and it configures automagically.
Also you can set filters so it will or won't forward certain messages if you chose.

If you don't want to give up on the Treo completely, you can try Seven Mail Beta.
I set it up with Gmail and it works pretty well so far. I don't get the echoed back messages like I do on the Treo and Blackberry. It's also a total no-fuss configuation once you install the software.
http://community.seven.com/ if you want to give it a shot.

If that's not the problem. Then let me know and I'll find out.

my problem is that there is no synchronization between gmail.com and my outlook. in other words an email appears new in my outlook (on my phone) even when i viewed it online.

another problem is that sometimes emails show up as new in my outlook days after i had already seen them

The Blackberry does not sync. email. If it's read on the handheld it's not marked read on the server and vis-versa.
Same with Seven Mail Beta on WM.

The problem is that GMail uses a POP mail server. So email read/unread status can't be synchronized easily. This is the same problem with Yahoo on POP.

But Yahoo for example now has IMAP. You can't use IMAP directly, YET, but for example Seven mail intefaces with Yahoo and syncs folders as well as read/unread status. Hopefull soon we'll get direct IMAP access to the server.

Well let's see if anyone else has something more productive to say about Gmail. But as of now I can tell you the Blackberry doesn't sync. I just tryed it. It's basically one-way only.

You can delete on handheld as well as on server with BB (Seven does too.)

You can set up a filter for that.

yep, i put a filter on the blackberry site and left the gmail one alone. I often send emails to myself if i need the file on another computer and don't have a flash drive with me and a filter on the gmail would block that.
Works great with the filter though, and gmail gets pushed instantly when you set it up on the bb site.
no sync though, but so far i love my 8800

You can also download the gmail app and use that but then you have to keep refreshing it to look for new mail, it does not notify you.
