Is this the most pain-free method of updating firmware/customizing my w810i?

Hey so I bought a w810i off someone and am expecting it to arrive by Friday. It is already unlocked and unbranded, but i am not sure with which version of firmware, etc. The person i bought it from isn't sure either.

Anyway, i like to have my phone fully up to date and with all the latest and greatest enhancements (cam, audio, firmware, etc)

I've been trying to read up on everything today and I wasn't sure the best pain free way to go about it.


What I'd like to ultimately have is:

Firmware updated to:
W810_R4ED001_FS_AMERICA_1_RED49
and
W810_R4EA031_MAIN_GENERIC_HN_RED49

PLUS:

all the goodies found in Avalon (from se-nse.net) latest mod pack:
Camdriver: Sarmad 5.6
Avalon's own acoustic mix pack
layout, themes, etc




Is the easiest way to do this simply to bruteforce FSX wth XS++? I.e can i update my firmware, and add all the stuff (uploading files) in Avalon's pack all at the same time? ( i know this method can take hours ).

Just a suggestion,

Brute forcing is easier, but...

Use Phone XS and FAR Manager, You accomplish all you desire in about 10 minutes, as long as you have all files you need.

Refer to the Cingular UnDebranding thread posted by Da_G, it would be about the same process (just to give you an idea of wha to expect) but you can use the W810_R4ED001_FS_AMERICA_2_RED49 Firmware.

If you have a mod-pack (Avalon) then you should be good to go.

I've flashed and re-flashed my phone about 2 dozen times already making minor changes here and there and testing a few things (some work and some have failed - make a backup).

Hope this helps just a little bit - This is just, and only, my opinion as well.

thanks for the reply. i may just go for bruteforce as it'll be my first go at playing around with the phone.

do you know if im able to do everything in one process with xs++

ie. flash new FS and MAIN with a custompack file in the own_custpack folder
+ upload all the new camera/acoustic drivers, themes, flash menus, etc (in the files_to_upload folder)

I cannot say.

I've never used XS++ and the "bruteforce" method.

I've only used XS and FAR with the Da_G pack (I'm a AT&Tingluar customer) and it was impressive (IMHO).

As far as the other method - I will not give any advice due to the fact that I have no experience with that scenario. Hopefully someone else can direct you.

I would recommend that you post your inquiry not only here but in the SE-NSE, Esato, & myW810 forums as well.

Thanks, i just posted my question on those baords as well. But i think i realized what i need to do after looking over the non-bruteforce method. I'm thinking that all i need to do is perform that Extra Unbranding your phone step during the whole procedure. That way i'll end up with the FS and Main I want since I have to flash a real Main at the end anyway right?

My only concern is, would it matter what FS and Main i have on the phone at the VERY beginning of the process? I guess not if i am just flashing fake main to access my file system..

What MAIN you have at the start doesn't matter at all. It can even be a corrupt, half-uploaded MAIN.

The only thing that matters about the FS is that it's not corrupt. If the FS has been corrupted by some means, FAR will not be able to access it. In this case you'll need to flash an FS file to the phone using PhoneXS.

Thanks so you think it is correct to flash my new FS along with the fake Main and then access my FS with far, upload a new customize.xml, cam drivers, etc and then flash the new Real MAIN at the end?

EDIT: This is the way i see myself doing it (mostly copied from se-nse.net)

the way i see it, i will also perform the "extra debrand your phone" steps that is listed on se-nse. So it would go like this:

Flash break-in loader(Fake MAIN) + new FS:
# Open XS++, connect, flash your MAIN with w810_p3k_dcu.49R.ssw (located in CID49 package).

- Also flash your filesystem with the FS file W810_R4ED001_FS_AMERICA_1_RED49

Don't check Customize File System!

This is a break loader. If you flash this into your phone, your phone cannot be turned on anymore because it's not a real firmware, but only a workaround intended to access the filesystem without bruteforce (using den_po's CID49 pack for the SEFP plugin for FAR-manager). It's only 5 flash blocks, should not take more than 30secs. Just choose STOP if it hangs on 100%.
# Remove your battery for 5secs and after that put it back in.



Customizing with FAR+SEFP:
# Open FARmanager, and press F11
# Choose SEFP plugin

1. If you get the error: "Unknown exception", Exception address: 0x7C812A5B...... The plugin will be Unloaded!
This is a bug. It's because you don't have any COM-ports, so create a fake COM-port connection. I did it with my BT Dongle.
2. if you get the error: "<BIldr> can be used with Service Cable ONLY".... browse to the SEFP folder and patch sefp.dll with sefp0.10.0.51patch.exe.
3. if you still get any errors, and just want a working phone back, skip this part and proceed at step 16.

# Opening SEFP:


choose Bootscript: w300_w810_z550_cid49 and press Enter The Matrix.
After a while you'll be in the w810i, if not, try again, check settings above.
# Choose /FS/, now you'll can customize everything you want; camdriver/ audiodriver/ etc.
browse to /tpa/preset/custom and copy all contents of your custompack in here, including subfolders.


# When done, Go back to root (choose '..' all the time) until FAR asks to exit CSFS loader, choose yes.
# Exit FAR-manager
# Disconnect cable and remove your battery for 5secs.

Flash real MAIN:
# Now go back to XS++ and connect your w810i.
# Now only flash your real MAIN file (i.e. W810_R4EA031_MAIN_GENERIC_HN_RED49.mbn, 344 flash blocks).
Don't check Customize File System! This will only take about 2 minutes.
