V3xx Noob starter questions

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just had a gunmetal v3xx delivered last night. I havent been excited about a phone since my Star Tac 7 years ago. I have been with Verizon wireless for the last 7-8 years and feel like I have been missing out on a lot of cool things. I am wondering about the possibilies with this phone. I have few noob questions though, and I would appreciate the help.

1. I have gone through the manual fairly well, and cannot see anything on re-programming the nav key shortcuts..Is this possible?

2. People on the list are talking about a moto dev kit or something like that, what is it and what does it do? any links?

3. Is there anyway to chase down old moto sound tones (I have a e-815) and install them onto the v3xx? I have been waking up to the same soft
"Ta Da" tone in the morning for the last 2 years.....

4. I know this is silly, I would really like to switch from the Cingular UI to the ATT UI that the Platinum has.

Thanks for any input. Everyone here has been very helpful and kind.

On #1: It looks like the V3xx has fewer menu customization options. What I can find are under Settings/Personalize/Home Screen and Main Menu.

Not much.

I believe I was able to rearrange mine using a similar process as rm - rf described without any major problems. Apart from the nav keys the only other button that can be programmed is the smart key, which is at default for the photo camera.

If you're referring to the + key shortcuts, its under the Main Menu -> Settings -> Personalize -> Home Screen -> Home Keys...unfortunately the two soft keys (left and right) are not re programmable without a Seem edit...

I think they're referring to Motorola Phone Tools (MPT). Heres the link: click here. If you decide to do any Seem edits with something like P2K or anything else, you void your warranty.

I connect my phone via Bluetooth to my computer using a USB dongle you can pickup at Best Buy for like $15. Or, you can buy a cable, which costs about the same, if my memory serves me right.

If anyone finds this out for you, let me know...I miss my Fanfare for messages

What's the difference? I'd like to see the ATT one. I don't have an answer to that. Mine is the Cingular one.

Thanks for the posts everyone.....I feel dumb that the first highlighted option in the main menu settings was what I was looking for. I was able to re-program them to my liking....much better now....

No, I dont think that I will be doing anything to void my warranty, but I still am looking for a way to transport the ringtones from my e815 if it is at all possible...or if they can be found online somewhere...you would think so wouldnt you? I love everything about the v3xx except for the ringers it came with.

Thanks bcooper for the bluetooth suggestion....I actually came to that conclusion yesterday and will have to check it out.....

I am really loving Yahoo Go on the phone....Looking forward to 3G when it comes hopefully in the next month or two.
