Disable GPRS on HTC s621

Just a quick question.

I don't want the s621 to hop onto my providers network when using IE or MSN or stuff like that, while I'm using a WiFi network.

How could I disable any access to GPRS for data?

You can try this application called NOGPRS:

You could also delete gprs settings, which was my solution to not making ie/msn use data usage.

The ones in Settings>Connections>GPRS?

There were 2 there, Rogers and Rogers Media or something and I deleted both.

all I do is go into the Connection Manager and click on the Data Connection tab (this will disable GPRS)

It dosn't work for me as I still get charged for data. Only way I can disable it is edit the GPRS settings to invalid info to disable it but then Internet Explorer won't connect properly using Wifi.

Did you check the <options>, <connection> setting under Internet Explorer? I have Automatically detect settings, and under select network, select The Internet. Then I think under your Wi-Fi connection setting (once you are connected to your WI-Fi), make sure the network type is the same "Internet". I edited my GPRS settings to invalid info also, so it automatically uses the Wi-Fi connection when I use Internet Explorer.

I have the settings same as yours but when I edit the GPRS settings, in Internet explorer I get error "The remote party has ended the connection".

EDIT: I finally fixed it. I set my network to Work and unchecked the auto detecet settings box and it is now working. Hope fully I can use it using these settings all the time because Rogers Data charges are insane .

Yeah, after you made your edits to your GPRS settings, "The remote party has ended the connection" should hopefully mean we are not able to use GPRS at all. If you are getting that message even after WI-FI is connected, I think your IE is somehow defaulting to use GPRS.

If you don't plan to use GPRS at all, you can also call Rogers CS and have them put a block on your Data. Just a thought.

I still can't get pocket msn to work over wifi. Were you able to get it to work?

Yes pocket msn worked for me. I didn't even do anything to make pocket MSN to work. Once I had Internet Explorer working, Pocket MSN worked automatically when I was connected to Wi-Fi. Is there a setting in Pocket MSN? Maybe it's defaulted to use "The Internet" as a source? You said above that you named your network "Work". Maybe Pocket MSN doesn't like that? Sorry, maybe someone else here has an idea.

Yes it was defaulting to Internet connection through GPRS and that was disabled. I got it fixed by calling Rogers and disabling Data usage on the account on their end and resetting by internet explorer settings back to default. Now both msn and internet explorer work perfectly through Wi-fi and the Rogers agent was even nice enough to Refund the $14.00 data charge since it shouldn't have been charged in the first place.
