Can I mod my w810i to do the following?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: kanezfan

I want to be able to use any mp3 on the phone or mem card as a ringtone. I can't right now, there's gotta be a way to mod the phone to allow this right?

Also, when I use the phone connected to my car stereo, I have to turn the stereo up really loud, much louder than when I connect my MP3 player. Can you mod the phone to play louder or something?

Thanks

Thanks, I did search the forums and there are a lot of threads that come up with hundreds of responses and when you're pretty new to this stuff, it can be somewhat overwhelming...

But thanks for renewing my faith in humanity bub. It's people like you that make getting out of bed such a miserable experience.

Thanks, what about my second question? Is there a way to do something about the volume too? When the song I'm listening to ends, it's loud hum city lol.

This link will have all of the answers you seek. The reason that there are so many threads about this is because people ask the same questions then get off topic and the thread grows and grows with no good support. DA_G has been very helpfully, but his thread is getting very big (and gets overwhelming). Maybe try reading the first page / read me file then jump to the end and read the last 10 pages or so.
You can install custom acoustic files that will raise the volume, install all kinds of flash themes, strip out the crap that your provider has installed, install custom camera drivers (they do help).

It just takes a little effort on your part to read a little "bub".

You will get more help being nice than short snappy comments like that (FYI).
Most of the people here are willing to help but the multiple thread thing comes up all the time (you your self will get irritated with it).
Try to point them in the rite direction rather than giving them the answer.

it jst saves you from being flamed, but if u want the regular posters here to gang upon you then go ahead, did u read the forums rules first before posting?

Posted by: MP

here we go again. LOL

lol yall need to chill. it's a forum, where people ASK stuff. if you don't feel like answering it, then don't, simple as that. Stop complaining "i have seen this same topic over and over blablablabla".
What's the point of a forum if all people are expected to do is search, theres no more interaction at all between people then, completely defeating the purpose of a help forum.

alright..well..i can give you the easy answer for your first question:
the easiest way to make an mp3 as a ring tune is to convert it using the drm packager. this step is instant and does not take long. i believe you can shorten mp3s aswell, but using the drm packager would be a whole lot easier.
it can be downloaded here:
http://developer.sonyericsson.com/g....do?docId=76997
(verification is case sensitive)

as for the sound volume when attached to your radio, i have the same issue with my ipod. best bet is just to turn up the volume to full on the phone, then adjust as needed on the radio. the phone volume can be increased but this would involve flashing your phone which, unless you have a use for all the other features. would be impractical for you and not needed.

-cheers.

What are you using to connect the W810 to your car stereo?

I was using the MMC-60 music cable by Sony Ericsson and I found it weird that the volume output of my K750 (non walkman SE phone) connected to my car stereo was a lot louder compared to my W850.

Unfortunately, I don't think that there is a remedy for this problem, and it doesn't seem like a lot of people has had this experience so you're just going to have to bite the bullet and live with the low volume output (or turn your radio's volume absurdly high).

But if use a bluetooth adapter I get somewhat better volume output, but unfortunately since the W810 doesn't support A2DP, you can't replicate the same results.

I bought this "box" that plugs in to my honda civic's proprietary connector which is where you'd normally plug in a CD changer input. On the other side of the box is the standard RCA red and white plugs, where I have a stereo mini-Y cable connected. The cable has a 3.5mm jack on one end, which I plug in to my MP3 player's headphone jack, or in this case, the W810i's headset dongle.

The "box" does nothing but trick the stereo into thinking that a 6 disc CD changer is connected to it, which allows me to use the CD changer mode. I went this way because I'd tried the FM modulator boxes and I hated the quality. This way it sounds perfect.

I've been reading up on some of the mods and it looks like there may be a way to make the phone itself louder. I'll post back here with hopefully a tale of success O.o

I do the same thing with the same equipment. You still have to turn it up 3 or 4 clicks with the modded acoustics. (mp3's are still louder than phone calls). I usually have mp3 vol on the phone set about 80% then phone call volume @ 100%.

BTW send some of the FL sun up here!

Yeah, I've read that the FM transmitter wasn't that great, so I opted not to go that route.

I'm using a Kenwood stereo receiver and it has the RCA auxiliary inputs, so I just used the MMC-60 cable straight from the phone to the back of the headunit and works great.

Unfortunately, the problem with SE's proprietary connector is that over extended periods of use, the connector tends to get loose. This is why I now opt for the bluetooth connection (I'm using a bluetooth audio controller) paired with my phone and use that to play music through my car speakers.

I have to agree somewhat, I know most folks are like me, I go to school and (or) work full time. I love to give people answers if I have them, but just as it is tiring to repeat an answer, searching forum after forum can get you discouraged right quick. So if someone knows a how to, can you just try to give it your best and answer...

The FM modulator was HORRID I had to hold it to the stereo or I got static on ANY station. Sent that back after 3 days of listening to hissing. I saw a mod somewhere that opened the case on it and added an antenna, but I thought that defeated the whole "wireless" idea. Its also nice to have a speaker phone that uses the car speakers (WITHOUT SUBS ON! talk about a surprise the first time I tried that) - using wired RCA to headphone plugs.

it is too bad that the 810 lacks A2DP.
I had no idea when I bought it.
Next SE will have stereo BT...

Posted by: UnNormL

matts,

Surprised that you didn't blow your speakers or amps running your input from your amp to the headphone plugs.

Posted by: MP

huh?
I meant the cable that hooks into the receptacle on the w810i stock headphone microphone thingie to rca > stereo THEN stereo to amps to speakers.

If the head unit (stereo) picks up the TDMA/GSM time chop it makes for some interesting bass....

I hate spam

Hey just a note about the loud humming between tracks..it's probably caused by a poor ground between the source (your SE) and the amplifier. Try running a wire from the audio ground as close to the source as possible. Even if you have to slice back the insulation a little and connecting the other end to your car's chassis ground or the car amplifier outer case. If that doesn't work you may need to purchase an audio noise isolator form anywhere that sells car audio. They're pretty cheap.
