Modem NAI and QPST

Hi there.
I currently am paying for unlimited internet on a bell phone. If I attempt to tether my V3c to my computer, I will get charged 15$ per megabyte. I've read that you can use QPST to turn off something called "modem NAI" (or something equivalent, at least). Is this true?
I haven't been able to get QPST working with my RAZR. When I connect, it asks me to specify what model it is... After some reading, it would seem the model of a V3c is supposed to be a SURF 6500. This option is not available. When I select some other models, QPST is able to read from my phone, but I won't write it back, since I'm scared of damaging my phone.

I haven't seen anything for getting around paying for tethering with BELL.. only Verizon...

Hm. Well, I have it loaded, and it's working now. I am able to access the nvm_ files. I think it has something to do with making both connections on the phone the same as my unlimited data connection.

Can you update your progress?

I was able to change the files, but when I did and rebooted the phone, all services were locked down. I rebooted the phone again... and the services were re-activated (much to my relief! I thought I bricked my phone!) but all the files were reverted back to their original stance.
