Insurance Replacement Question

Now I ask this quite blindly. I know very little on how AT&Tingular phones work. I know it involves a SIM card. I migrated from the old TDMA AT&T to VZW so I've always needed CS help to change phones.

My dilemma is this: My former house-mate moved and though he changed his address with Cingular something didn't get changed with the insurance company and his replacement was sent here. Though the phone insurance company got him a replacement to his proper address here sits a referb Moto V3. The moral side of me wants to return it to the proper people. However the immoral side of me wants to either sell this on Ebay or better yet give it to the girl I'm dating (who is on Cingular).

But it also begs the question of, what if someone were to steal this off the front porch would they be able to use this phone? I know VZW can blacklist a phone's ESN but is it the same with Cingular?

I currently use the Moto Q with VZW but was thinking of switching to AT&Tingular when the Moto Q9 comes out (VZW is irritating me right now), and its a comforting thing that I know I can get my phone blacklisted and turned into pretty much a paperweight if I loose it. Is the possibility of someone being able to use the phone after its lost something one would have to deal with?

Finally, how likely is it going to be that someone (Cingular or the Insurance comp) is going to come looking for the phone (and therefore want it back)? Bare in mind, no signature was required for delivery.

Thanks...

If you were missing something worth $199 would you look for it. Or better yet, if you were the insurance company, you sent a replacement device to someone, but it was delivered to someone other then the man it was intended for and the other guy decided to keep it, so you as the insurance company had to send a second phone out. WOULD YOU GO LOOK FOR IT.

Be a man, take the prepaid stamp out of the box, slap on the top and send the phone back.

Then GOD shall let you through the Gates of Heaven for you sincerity.

Thats what I rather thought. I guess I made it sound like I was more interested in keeping the phone than I really was. I was more curious of what security Cingular has on keeping track of phone vs. VZW (in comparison).

keep the phone...

screw them...they make too much money anyways.

Anybody can use that phone,as long as they have a sim to put in it.

I read somewhere on these forums that cingular don't blacklist esn's because that phone eventually it's gonna get activated,(more money for cingular) don't quote me on this since i don't know if it's true or not.

Don't give it to a girl your DATING for multiple reasons.

A) its stolen (basically)
B) don't get her in the cycle of expecting expensive toys
C) you'd feel bad if she got caught

I would sell it on ebay. Most phones on there are stolen anyway. But yea, phones to a cellular company are peanuts. They make their doe with contracts. Plus its a REFURB V3, its worth like $100 bucks if that.

D) you could always save if for the end of the relationship with your girl, get your "bang" for your buck before you break up, then turn her in. lol

I dunno. I would prolly either put it in a box for emergencies, or sell it on ebay, or sell it at a flea market or somewhere.

My question is why doesn't your (ex)roommate have his mail forwarded? Second, if it was so valuable, then why didn't the insurance company "insure" the package? Kinda ironic don't ya think. Keep it. Stupid people pay stupid prices.
