My "CrackBerry" story...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I bought my first BlackBerry about 3 months ago, a BB Pearl. At first I just thought it was a decent phone, but I grew to love absolutely everything about it. The keypad, the screen, the music player, the form factor, the applications, everything. I was NEVER one to e-mail from a phone, but guess who had the unlimited data and e-mail plan with T-Mobile? I bought the damn thing thinking I wouldn't use it to anywhere near its full potential and I ended up wanting MORE.

I recently bought the Nokia N95. Two hours after holding it and making a few calls, sending a few text messages... I hated it. I sent it back.

I opted for the Samsung U600. It's been one day, and I can't bring myself to like it. Two of the top cellular manufacturers and their flagship products don't even phase me. All I want is my BB Pearl back, but I sold it to a friend of mine.

So I got to thinking, and decided that the 8800 might be a better choice. It's more powerful, has a full keyboard (I text and e-mail a LOT) and it's overall a nicer device. Then I remembered that the Curve is soon to be released, but most likely for AT&T, and I have T-Mobile. I can't believe I've become this bad, but I don't think I want to own a cellular device made by anyone other than RIM.

Sort of a bitter sweet tale, especially because I'm not sure whether I should grab the 8800 now or wait it out and get the Curve (I suck at waiting). What do you think? :\

appreciated.
i don't see myself going back to a non-Rim device myself. It's just the most sophisticated, stable, reliable all-around communications device.

If I were you, I would grab the Curve. My dad has the 8800 and I can't stand the keyboard and form factor.

I felt the same way.
Just get one and give it a day or two.
I realized 8800 is a much better blackberry.

or wait for the 8300:

What makes you say the 8800's more powerful than the 8100?

Only you can determine your needs/wants since you didn't share them with us. Either way you get a great device. I'd suggest getting the 8800 and giving it a test spin as your carrier should give you a trial period with any new device.

The Pearl is hard to beat in just about every way you look and think about it. Since my first Pearl I've had a N80ie, a E70, a E61i, and then it was right back to the Pearl. The only thing which might beat the 8100 is the rumored update, the 8120 with a 2 megapixel camera, GPS, and WiFi.

have you tried typing on your "real" keyboard? i can type much faster on my pearl then i would ever be on an 8800 i send close to 30+ emails a day along with countless text messages from this device.

so the 8800 has gps you can pick up a gps receiver for the pearl.

my vote go with the pearl or wait for the curve i cant speak for the curve as i have not used it.

30+ emails a day is pretty light duty. For me that would mean it is Sat. or Sun.

Wirelessly posted (NakedBerry: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry7250/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/104)

Before this goes way off topic, I'll put in my vote: wait for the Curve. And if it proves too difficult, pick-up a second hand Pearl to keep you from getting "the shakes" in the mean time.

I know the Curve is coming exclusively to AT&T, but how long would you anticipate it takes for it to hit the unlocked device market? If it's within a month, I can take the 8800 for a test spin and return it in time to grab the Curve and not really take any serious hits financially.

I'm not sure if you considered it, but you could try to find a used 8700 to hold you over for the meantime.

The 8700 is a mammoth device! That thing is seriously too huge, I couldn't deal with the size. The 8300 is relatively small and much nicer on the eyes. Good suggestion though.

Ive gotten rid of my 8700 4 times and got it back.. ive gone through almost every high end phone i can get my hands on and im constantly back to the berry .lol

I know that sickness well. Had 3 8700's, 2 Pearls, seperated by a bunch of forgettable handsets. Keep up the good work RIM! Keep on improving app's and BB support for Mac and Linux OS's.

i think u should wait for the curve, iīve been reserching on this new babe of RIM, and itīs features rules!...
itīs ligther than any 8.800 series, it has a built in 2.0 mp camera, and its screen is the real thing, besides its full qwerty keypad...
i just cant remeber if it has built in gps....sorry..:S

Posted by: CowboyNYC

It has yet to be proven that anything can match the Pearl punch for punch. IMO SureType is so good it's curbed my need for full qwerty, making the extra size need for full qwerty undesirable to me. If BG is right (which he has a great record) the only thing I miss in the 8100 at this time (wifi) will be added with the 8120. http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2007...ackberry-pearl/

RIM keep knocking them out of the park! Technology and style leading the way.

I like the beef of the 8700 tho. I've thrown mine in anger(long story) and it held up and at the same time made a nice bruise on my wall. I would just feel too guilty throwing my pretty pearl or 8800 or 8300...

I personally sold my 8700 for an 8800 and think it was a great choice. I don't see why everyone complains about the keyboard, I haven't mis-typed one word since getting the 8800. I LOVE the keyboard and slim form factor and the GPS with TeleNav is amazing.
