How can I get bitpim to detect my vx8700?

Hi I am using a d-link bluetooth dongle on my desktop (running windows xp but using d-link drivers). I have already paired my phone to the computer and transfered files from computer to the phone. I want to be able to transfer ringtones, but I can't get bitpim to detect my phone. It comes up with the phone detection failed error. I have already manually tried to set the com port to "/dev/cu.LGVX8700-BTDIAG-1" but that doesn't work, and the only comm ports I have in my menu are "Communications Port (COM1)" "Communications Port (COM2)" "Bluetooth Communications Port (COM3)" and "Bluetooth Communications Port (COM4)".

Someone told me that I need to set up a com port for BTDiag to use bitpim with the phone. I couldn't find instructions for how to do this on the bitpim site.

Please help - thanks

I believe you need to be using Bitpim 9.15
Is that the version you have?

DO NOT attempt to use a bluetooth connection to use bitpim, buy the cable then goto www.sprint.com/downloads and download the drivers. JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE DOWNLOADING IT FROM SPRINT doesn't mean the drivers are from sprint. Sprint is stealing them without permission and putting them into its own install package.

Hola,
This may sound elementry but do the following:

Uninstall Bitpim (make sure it is 9.15 version or latest).
Restart the PC.
while phone is connected with bluetooth install the bitpim again. Then restart the PC.
while phone is connected and on with blue tooth start up the bitpim program.

It should find your phone with auto detect. Let me know if this helps. Bye...

connect the phone to the PC via bluetooth

start bitpim, in bitpim manually choose the model as the 8500, unless you have a version that has 8700 in the list

now manually list the com ports

your phone should be either bt com3 or bt com4 try those

then goto bitpim 'file system option' and click on that

besure you have set the phone menus to PC data connecton BT

If you have vista you may need to go to the COM ports tab in bluetooth devices and assign your phone to a COM port... the one that says diagnostic is the one for bitpim qpst etc..
