RAZR MAXX Ve Ringtone guide! Easiest way!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I got my MAXX yesturday, and for some reason am completely unable to use any of the get it now or web features, or ever flix/pix messaging. i had to come up with a way to get my precious ringtones on my phone, so here is what works.

first things first, open any windows explorer window, click Tools >> Folder options...

from there, click the View tab >> ensure the check box for "hide file extensions for known file types" is NOT checked. click OK

download an excellent, free audio editing program such as Audicaty and its counterpart needed to extract to mp3, forgot name (update, its LAME)

ok, now bring in the song you want to make a tone out of, select the 30 seconds or so of it that you want, click Edit >> Trim. click File >> export as mp3

THIS PART IS KEY!

in the name dialog box, rename the song to "nameofsong.QCP"
it has to have the qcp extension to work!

click ok to the warning message that appears

use whatever method you have to bluetooth the file to your phone, check your ringtones section on the phone, and VIOLA! there it is.

FYI, i use the DLINK 120 and the toshiba stack. assuming the phone and PC are already paired, just right click the fiile, select to bluetooth, and search for your phone while the phone is in discovery mode.

it is funny that Verizon is notorious for locking out bluetooth on phones, and now we are able to do the one thing that they hate the most, having custom ringtones.

enjoy your tones/tunes, and stick it to the man!

Emailing is one thing... Verizon is now converting MP3 files to QCP.. again CONVERTING (aka Re-Encoding) which is not the same as just renaming... The sound quality is degraded (due to QCP limits).

As such.. the Maxx and Krzr are saving the files as sounds, not ringtones, and are thus un-able to use them as Ring Tones.

Real General Midi files are NOT touched, and still come in as Mid.

However, using Bluetooth OBEX File Transfers (what the OP talks about), or Moto Phone Tools, or P2kCommander all still work... (and all are noted on the links I posted.)

yes, the above method has been used 25+ times for all my ringtones

just try it, it is really quite simple to do

ok thanks guys used tis method worked great... BUT when i set my ringtone to ring on the tone i tranfered it rings quietly but when i preview it befor i set it it works great. what happen??

Posted by: nintendodude

i had the same thing happen with a QCP recorded from the phone as a sound that i toothed back and forth to get it to the ringers directory.

be sure that the file is an actual mp3 encoded file and just renamed to .qcp

i have had nothing but success with my method.
