New TyTn user - couple of questions

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just purchased an unbranded/unlocked TyTn on Friday. I'm very pleased. I have a few questions.

1. Will HTC come out with a WM6 ROM that is supported and we can download and install.

2. On my TREO, I was able to put in a 3 digit area code prefix for local numbers, so I could dial just 7 digits instead of 10 for Toronto (the 416 was added automatically). Is there a way to do that with the TyTn.

3. Setting up email connections to the pop3 server of my ISP, I don't see a setting to "Leave on server". How can that be?

4. On my TREO, I used to grab and compress movies from DVD's. and shrink them to about 200megs at the proper screen size and watch on TCPMP, and listened to music with pTunes. Can I just use Windows media player for everything?

5. Even at full brightness, the screen seems not very bright when outside in the daytime. Anyone else have that complaint?

6. What's the best way to install ringtones>

Thank you

Harry Fine

I dont believe all of them are answered. i searched about the ringtone one and didnt come up with an answer. i do feel though that just putting search for it or RTFM isnt a helpful answer, perhaps the OP couldnt find it on the search, maybe you could have posted links to where they were.

to OP: the screen at full brightness is a little dark indoors for me even at full outside i can see perfectly.

I have a tytn too. I also have a question.
1.)If i use the wifi and it gets disconnected does it use the internet (like the pay per use from rogers) ? or will it just disconnect my internet explorer?
2.) can I change the icons on the "today" screen? i was to put my alarm on there...

Select Contacts -> Menu -> Options

You can change your default area code from there.

I've done that already and it doesn't work for me... Just in case I misunderstood what harry_fine was talking about, I want SmartDial to NOT require me to dial the area code. Example: If the # I want to dial is 514-123-4567, I should only have to dial 123- and SmartDial should find the number, rather than having to put the 514 for it to find the number... something akin to placing a wildcard before the 123-xxxx

I installed WinVibePro and it's pretty good but for music only. Unfortunately, it uses more juice than Media Player.

I just copied my MP3/WAV into the phone's "My Documents" folder and then choose it under Settings -> Sounds & Notifications -> Notification. There another way to access the ringtone part but I can't remember where.

no SMART dial is when you type in the name of the person via keypad,

the phone will auto recognize which person you want to call for EX:

i want to call Calgary Parking Authority to tow some jack *** that parked infront of my drive way with a regular T9 interface i would press 22542 (to type "Calga")

and it should auto filter to what i want

or just get voice dialing (REAL voice dialing does not need pre-recorded names)

press MFB on my BT headset

voice command says "Say a command"
i say "call calgary parking authority"
VC says " call calgary parking authority work...is this correct" (work as in office or work number)
i say "yes"
VC Says "dialing"

Yes, but you can use the same mechanism to dial by #. The question is how can I use that mechanism to dial without being forced to enter the area code.

are you sure you are forced to enter the area code? have you tried dialing w/o the area code? does it not work?

i'm pretty sure your default area code is built into your SIM card, NOT the phone. for the example 514-123-4567, your SIM card is smart enough to know that you are in area code 514. (this is of course if 514 is your hometown. ie. the place where you bought your phone)

all the phones i've owned (regular phones and windows mobile phones included), i've never had to set up the area code. just dial.
