I am getting a free replacement phone from Sprint later this week and it's a Katana 6600. I know very little about the phone so can anyone give me any feedback about it's pros and cons?

Congrats ... you will enjoy the Katana! My wife, son & daughter each have them and are quite pleased with them.

The Katana looks very cool/sexy and has a nice, large screen. Good signal strength, holds calls well too.

Compared to my 8400, the Katana does not support the faster EVDO internet/web speeds but unless you are a heavy internet user that won't affect you and the 1xRtt internet speed is fine in most circumstances.

The speakerphone is on the back of the Katana, so if you use speakerphone a great deal, you get used to doing it with the lid closed (works fine this way) and the phone upside down so the speaker is on top. The microphone is near the bottom of the phone anyway, so it makes no difference when you're speaking.

Lastly, the Katana (unlike the 8400) does not support external storage like a microSD card so storing/playing MP3s is out.

Still - as a phone, the Katana is a very solid, sturdy, nice looking and strong performer.

Enjoy !!!

My family has had our 6600's ,Katana, for 7 months now.

Love the display and the look of the phone. We have the vision pack and surf the web. Pictures look good, on the phone, have never transferred them off though. I like all the alarm menus. I don’t have to remember anything anymore. I have an alarm for everything

The sound is terrible, on and off the speaker phone. I have been looking for a good blue tooth earpiece. Tried the Jabra JX-10, awful, the Motorola Razr H3 model, terrible, Motorola HS850 so far just O.K. still in search of the perfect earpiece.
