Blackberry Personal 3G?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have seen similar posts regarding Blackberry data, but I have yet to get a definitive answer. I ordered the curve today with Blackberry personal unlimited.

If I take the SIM out of the Blackberry and put it in to a Blackjack, will I be able to get 3G speeds with the Blackjack or does Blackberry data only run on 2G?

I know I will be able to get the data just fine. That answer has been covered over and over again, but will it be EDGE Speed or 3G speed in the Blackjack?

Thanks!

No the curve is not 3g

I understand the Curve is not 3G. I am more interested in the 'Blackberry Service' being 3G. Meaning, can I take the sim out of the Curve and put into a blackjack and obtain 3G speeds?

I amassuming I can put the sim in the blackjack and use data services, but will it obtain 3G speeds?

Thanks.

Oh - sure as long as they give you a 3g capable sim _ iassum all the new sims are 3g capable

yeah. it's device dependat. so as long as you have a 3g sim (which it should be) the blackjack will pickup the 3g network.

You can only get the BB service on a BB, so I am confused as to what you are asking.

If you take the SIM out of the BB and put it in a Blackjack or similar, you should have Internet access but not BB email. It should be 3G, but I am not entirely sure since the SIM is provisioned as a BB. One way to find out is try it.

You don't have to have a BlackBerry device to get BB service, but it must be a device that can run BB Connect software, and, you need a feature call BB PDA Connect Unlimited. I have the feature and it allows me to use a BB device, like an 8700, 8800, etc. or a PDA device using BB Connect software such as a TyTN, or a Nokia E61 or E62. I can move the SIM, change the PIN and IMEI on the Cingular BlackBerry start page and on the desktop app, register on the network from the device and BlackBerry away.

I also have 3G provisioned on the account so when I use my TyTN it gets the screaming-fast HSDPA speeds. On the non-3G devices it gets EDGE-class speeds.

BB Connect is a bit different than the BB service that OP is asking about I think. But yes BB Connect can be used with certain devices to have BB connectivity.
