New(er) IM client for Blackjack

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Finding a reasonable IM client for Blackjack has been a challenge. None has a good on-screen notification apart from the stupid SMS based OZ IM by Cingular. So I decided to reinstall it, hoping that Cingular may have updated it with something better. To my surprise I found that they posted a CAB file last week. Check out this link:
http://www.wireless.att.com/blackjackIM/
The posting date for the CAB file is 23 May 2007, but files inside are from Nov'06 !
You must be curious whats new about this client - well its slower, less reliable and has a Cingular logo! Apart from that I haven't found anything different. As much as I hate it, I use it since now I never miss a message, the icon shows up everywhere, like a missed call or text msg.
It maybe the same CAB but just posted again, and maybe OZs network is not as reliable as it was few months ago. Can someone confirm their version of OZ client ? Mine is 4.1.7

Mine is version 4.1.8.

Well you know what that is odd, I just noticed that it still said Cingular. I wonder if they are going to release a version that says ATT. I use that version the most just cause it stays connected the longest, I also installed IM+ and it isn't bad. I have seen that someone made a home screen for Octro so that you have Today screen info. Where did you all find your version number?

In the IM program's main screen, scroll till you get to where it says "Powered by OZ" and then click "Select".

Well after looking I actually have version 4.1.9. Isn't that a bit odd? I wonder what the differences are

why not spend the $11 or $14 (I forget which) and get MunduIM. I've been using it on my Blackjack and it's been decent. File/Pic upload, conferencing, works with AIM, Live Messenger, Yahoo, Google Talk, etc. It also has the option of plastering a big, fat notification message on your screen.

I installed the "new" version from the link and it is 4.1.7, so now I have an older version.

Wirelessly posted (SAMSUNG-SGH-I607/I607FG1 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; Smartphone; 320x240) UP.Link/6.3.1.17.0)

I also have IM Plus and it works pretty decent too. I guess i jus like built in and included clients. My biggest issue with IM Plus is the data usage and how that affects battery life. With the included client from OZ i can leave it on all day and it doesnt hit the battery any where when I leave anything else my battery dies faster. Doesnt Mundu need the .Net framework?

I'll try Mundu today. Does Mundu connect directly to Yahoo or via some intermediate server ?

(BTW, how do I get OZ version 4.1.9 ? I hope thats a bit faster and doesn't take minutes to send/recv msgs)

so just to get verification,, the link will install the older version 4.1.7 that actually shows the notification on the home screen? I currently have 4.1.9 which does not show notification on the screen, it only give audible notification.

Tried Mudnu yesterday, I wasn't all that impressed. My choice is still Agile Messenger. It's worth the money. Very fast, very reliable and easy to use.

mundu never worked on my blackjack and they would not answer my email so I'm going to have to stick with IM+ I guess.

Having the same issue. mundu is not working properly on BJ and I did not get any response yet. if I figure out how to getmundu working then I'll post it here. Does Agile show on screen popup or some visual indication on BJ home screen for a new msg ?

I installed the version of WM6 that is floating around the threads here and at the ATT forums, and now I have version 4.1.11 I don't know if there are any differences yet, as I have not had a chance to really play. Just wanted to give those interested a heads up

Goto MediaNet -> Tones/Games/Apps -> Cool Tools -> Communities & Photo -> IM

cost = $0 and you get OZ 4.1.8

I know OZ uses text messages. How many? Is there a lot of activity throughout the day with people logging on and off that will result in high message use, or just when you send/receive messages or "refresh" the user list? Want to make sure there aren't a lot of messages used under the covers without realizing it.

Thanks

i used oz b4 and it costed money even tho i got unlimited text and IM

i use agile but i would like somethin where i can see if people were idle/away messages and such. and if i could do custom away messages

Anyone here use Fring? I've just installed it recently, and it seems to be an OK multi IM program, but it supports VOIP chat too.

IM+ works fine for me, but the one major annoyance with it is that it doesn't show if your contacts are idle or not (for AIM)

so , where can I get this newest version.

I have OZ for 8525, and it will not let AIM work for some reason, the Blackjack version works , but it seems to "wake up" the phone just randomly and will kill the battery. so I want to try the "newer" version..

anyone have the NEWEST CAB file by any chance?

I would check your spam folders and such because their support team has always gotten back to me quickly. I have the BJ updated installer I uploaded it here for you.

Mundu uses data to send and receive messages or just to send? Did not see a free trial of Mundu, just send a buisness inquiry.

I would like a SMS type program. I have tried ALL the other programs.. I will admit that the interface is nicer on most of thoes programs, but when I am out of service, or on the phone, I can not recive (and it shows me off line), or I get that random message saying that I am online twice! I have enough SMS messages for that.. I dont like the AIM fowarding system becuase it's a pain to find who's online.

not to mention, I thought the AT&T version was SMS cost free.

also, data EATS batteries.
