Hey!!
I just found out by myself that it is possible to use a custom theme and also be able to make the wallpaper displayed in full screen. Many of us complain about the image is chopped off at the top and the bottom. Here's the solution - thanks to Nokia.
If you use Nokia.nth theme (original theme), you will be able to get full screen wallpaper. I disassembled Nokia.nth, and found that the status and the soft-key is merely a transparent PNG file. Therefore, to display full screen wallpaper with custom theme, you need to modify the theme's XML file.
To disassemble the NTH theme file, simply rename the extension from .nth to .zip. You can extract the content.
To make life easier, I strongly recommend you all to use Nokia's S40 Theme Studio 2.2. You can find them in Nokia's Developer site, and use for 14 days.
Once you have everything installed, run Theme Studio and open the .NTH you wish to edit.
You will be presented with many tabs, and we need to focus on IDLE -> IDLE SCREEN. Just simply change the 2 "Background" by choosing the transparent.png.
Save your work, and load it up.
You may want to explore Theme Studio to edit the theme further. enjoy!

I figured this out by fluke! I'm using a simple Volcom logo with a black background and it shows no lettering aside from the time which I like to have up front. Looks great!
