Pearl without media package

Would it be really silly to get a pearl without any plans of getting any type of media package? I just want an easily accessible calendar, and a phone that gets good service. I don't like my razr phone. This forum is very confusing to me, so any help would be appreciated. PM me if necessary.

Media package will not do anything for the Blaclkberry. You need a data Blackberry data plan. without you will have a PDA, phone and maybe SMS.

Okay, I meant the data plan then.
I was just wondering if it is still a good phone if you don't plan on getting the data plan. I like the calendar, so I could use it sorta as a day planner.

I know someone that uses the Pearl for the calendar and SMS without having the data plan and he still really likes it. It does work extremely well as a phone. As for me, I can't see much use in having one without the data plan, but just comes down to what you want to use it for.

That's like buying a corvette and getting a 4 cylander engine. I wouldn't sell you one if I was at a store

Right....because every corvette ever bought has been dragged raced and fully utilized. That being said, cmatthews' post is right on the money. You also have 30 days to try out the phone and see if it works best for you.

I bought a BB Pearl and tried it out a few months ago. I just wanted a nice phone with a media player, but to me (compared to other phones)the media player was ******. Everything else about the phone was perfect! Accept for the pearl ball. I hated that thing, it reminds me of the old IBM mouse pointer things, it just annoys me, and makes me wanna scratch my finger! I guess thats just a personal issue with the pearl for me. When I had it everyone seemed to like more than me. They were like "omg god is that a bb pearl?!" I'm like "yea?" "That's the best phone on the market!!" I ended up taking it back after 2 weeks maybe, it does get boring without the internet. Thats what it's made for. Although I love texting on it! My advice to you is, get it because you want that phone, not because you just want a calender and good service.

The Pearl works great without a BB/data plan, I did this for a few months myself. Nothing wrong with not overpaying for a BB plan. BUT, you will NOT be able send or receive picture messages, as that uses data. Bottom line is the Pearl is very good as just a phone.

Are you able to use Opera Mini without a data plan? I have heard some people say they're able to do this.

Okay, thanks guys. I think I will still get it. I really want the phone for the calendar. I guess it is a girl thing.

mbranscum, you stole my last name. give it back pls.

Toadstool,

I got the Pearl last month, for the exact same reason you want it - I needed a good phone and a new calendar (my palm died), and I didn't really want the data plan. I was deciding between the Pearl and the Treo and I told the sales guy at the COR store that I had no intention of keeping the data plan - he convinced me to go with the Pearl for my needs and he was right. I love the Pearl as a phone, calendar and for keeping my contacts in order. You're right, maybe it is a girl thing. . .

Okay, thanks hjml. At least I don't feel that crazy now.
The guy at the store here told me it was useless without a data plan. I will go ahead with it now. Thanks!

I wouldn't call it useless without the data - you just don't get the e-mail push and the unlimited web access. Some people just want to have a consolidated device that fits their needs. If I had to buy a new palm or other organizer, and a new phone (because that was dying too), I'd have spent the same as buying the Pearl. If I ever do want to be constantly connected to work (ain't gonna happen!!) then I can get the data plan.

Oh, I am not worried about email and all that. I just have a hard time remembering doctors appts and things like that, so I figured instead of having to have a day planner and a phone I could consolidate it into one thing. I am a stay at home mom, so I don't need to be in touch with email and all that.
