Telus Introduces BIS 2.3

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Effective June 2, Telus is upgrading to BIS 2.3.

What's in it for me, you ask?

Quote:
  • Two-way, synchronization of deletes to and from the
Yahoo! Mail® inbox, as well as two-way, virtual real-time
    synchronization of message status (read/unread)
  • Virtual real-time delivery of Gmail messages
  • Copies of email messages that are sent to a clients’
    TELUS BlackBerry email address (i.e.
    username@telus.blackberry.net) can be automatically
forwarded to another third-party web mail account (such
as Yahoo! Mail or Google Mail).
  • View popular attachment formats on the move, including
JPEG, BMP, TIFF, RTF, Microsoft® Word, Excel and
PowerPoint®, Corel WordPerfect and Adobe PDF.
  • PowerPoint presentations and PDFs can be viewed in a
    convenient slideshow format.

I seem to recall someone saying it would support audio attachments, but there's no mention in this (admittedly brief) announcement.

Anyone currently on BIS 2.1 will be automatically upgraded. BIS 1.8 users will have to log into BIS at http://telusmobility.com/blackberryemail and click a few things.

Rogers too. Looks like everyone's on board. I was under the impression they'd had it since May 12, but the thread indicates they were delayed till tomorrow.

i think its a rim server upgrade, and doesnt seem to be carrier dependant

Seems logical. I was thrown by the carriers' marketing-speak. Telus and Rogers come across in their respective announcements like their employees stayed up all night nine days in a row and one guy's finger got torn off in a server just to bring it to The Valued Customers.

I thought on BIS 2.1, the "Virtual real-time delivery of Gmail messages" already exists.

How do we know what BIS version we are on, I have Verizon.

Log into your BIS account > Click on Help > then click on Legal.

The current version number will be displayed.

I don't think that works, because mine says:

"At the time of publication, this documentation is based on BlackBerry Internet Service version 2.0."

I would think verizon would be on 2.1 at least by now.

Verizon is now on BIS 2.3 but emails are not coming through. I logged in and resent the service books but still have not received them yet. Guess they are having some problems.

Same here with T-Mobile, and I've done the same as you.

Are you sure this time ?

But you are correct, it appears they have upgraded to 2.3. Gmail still does not work without POP enabled. I thought 2.3 allowed Gmail to work without having pop enabled. I wonder why it still doesn't work.

Yea. there was a reason why mines was working long ago that i cant discuss and shouldn't have said anything about long ago... But its officially released now. Wav attachments can be downloaded and appointments and meetings can be accepted wirelessly
