MOTO e816 - doesn't work as reg phone : only in speaker ph mode

Hello
Can someone help me with my Moto e816 Ampd Hollywood edition? 
Last night I used the speakerphone and since around then the regular phone setting is nada – no incoming voice which I can quickly fix by reverting to speakerphone mid call. But I don’t know how to undo that setting – I can’t hear my voice recordings or even in phone mp3s through the regular earpiece. only speakerphone…
I tried master reset (not master clear) and it didn’t help. User manual has no trouble-shooting section bleh!
Thanks for any tips! I’ll try anything 
ps: on a unrelated issue - it is a local # and when i call it from my home ph it bills it as a long distance - hopefully this is a temp RSS issue? my ph is <1 week old active acct. Anyone else heard about this freakyness before?
