Blackjack WM6 update on At&t forums!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: airbillion

Here is the download link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TAO1U2FV
Go to the samsung forums and read about it. Looks like the real thing! I'm going to try it now...let you know how it goes. Wish me luck.

Posted by: Hova21

So is this the real deal?

Posted by: G27_jose

Looks like spam to me

Posted by: airbillion

If you don't believe me, go to the at&t samsung forums. It is one of the first posts. I downloaded the file and am in the process of trying the update now. I'll keep everyone posted...just give a few minutes. I figure if it doesn't work I will just update the bj with the at&t branded rom.

Posted by: philpeeps

let us know about voice dial, the bluetooth stack (ability to voice dial via headset, ability to seamlessly switch between BT headsets), etc...

Posted by: tjmonkey15

Here's the link to the thread airbillion was talking about

AT&T Forums

Posted by: ivwshane

Holly sh@t it worked!!!!!!!!

I'll post the steps for others:

First download the file in the first post
install the modem driver
I put my phone in flash mode first before installing the driver.
To enter into flash mode turn of the phone and then reboot it while holding down the right soft key and the camera button on the side and then press power.
Connect your phone to your computer, when windows sees it point to the cd that came with your bj (its under the extras/device folder).
Once your bj is installed run the updater program
Follow the instructions the updater gives you.
Be patient.

Your phone will reboot and you will be ready to go, att branding and all!!!

Posted by: airbillion

A little scary, but it worked. Took a while to boot but now we can have WM6 on the blackjack. Have fun!!!

some quick testing for us HoFo folks???

Posted by: airbillion

Just playing with it now. No internet yet. What are the default gprs setting for the blackjack, I want to compare them. Otherwise everything looks great...just like wm6 on the dash.

Posted by: SprintNewbie

mine keeps on saying "Select an image to download" Everytime I hit the start button.

Posted by: airbillion

Also I pressed #*1234# to get versions: PDA: i607UCGD2, PHONE:i607UCGD2.
What does anyone else get?

Posted by: ivwshane

I don't see any options for voice dial.

How would I check the bt stack?

I only have a stereo bt headset and a regular one. I was not able to connect both at the same time, however switching between the two was just a matter of going into bt connections and saying connect with the headset I wanted highlighted.

Posted by: ivwshane

Its *#1234# and I get the same thing.

Posted by: airbillion

One last thing: -> settings, about = CE OS 5.2.1235 (Build 17740.0.2.0),
Radio Version i607UCGD2, RIL Version 2.002, (Operator, Manufacturer, Microsoft, Language, File System): 5.2.1235.17740

Sorry, just excited and tired!

Yep all the same.

Posted by: ARHYTHMATIK

What's the deal with losing the functionality of holding down a key to get the alternative symbol on that key?

Also-- does the upgrade fix the typing problem of skipping letters??

Posted by: ivwshane

I dont know if this was there before but I like the fact that there is now an update option on the phone (similar to windows update).

Customer feedback has also been added (similar to when you get a windows error and you can send a report back to ms).

Posted by: airbillion

Good news, internet works now. Just hard reset the phone and now it works!

Posted by: ivwshane

It seems to work better than it did.

Posted by: SprintNewbie

could someone please tell me what I might be doing wrong??? I backed-up the phone, installed the samsung modem drivers, and disabled usb connection in active, turn phone off, remove sim card and micro sd card, run upgrade program, plug phone into the usb port, hold right soft key, back, and power.

The phone says:
Quote:
*USB Downloader - Xcingular v1.2

Rx > PING Command
PC Connection : OK, Single Mode.

[Tx] BOOT_OK - Ping

so then I go to click the start button on the upgrader, and it just says :

"Select an image to download"

Some one please help.

Posted by: ARHYTHMATIK

Sho' nuff! It works! Got it all loaded and going in about 20 minutes! Haven't played around with it yet-- I'm still loading all my old apps and getting my email accounts configured as we speak.

Posted by: Nastronomical

My internet is not work?

Posted by: ivwshane

How big is your file? It should be about 82MB.

The phone no longer takes forever when going into "other" sounds.

Posted by: ARHYTHMATIK

Here is what I did to get it going.

1) download the file
2) turn your phone off
3) plug your phone into your computer while it is off
4) run the program
5) put your phone in flash mode (hold the side "back" key, the right soft key, and press the power button all at the same time)
6) your computer will recognize the device
7) ActiveSync popped up saying it couldn't connect-- click "do not connect through USB" (or something to that effect)
8) press start
9) let it install and BINGO, you're done

Here are some initial differences I've already noticed
1) yes, the typing problem seems to have been solved. it doesn't skip letters like it did before
2) yes, holding a key down to get it's alternative symbol is now gone
3) graphic icons for email accounts are much better and clearer to see (i.e the icons next to email accounts etc.)
4) new homescreens to choose from
5) in the email program, "delete" is the left soft key, not "new"
6) you can now get MobiTV and TeleNav and options to do so are all over the phone
7) built in Calendar is a little different

Those are the first changes I've noticed (besides obvious ones, such as the prescence of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, etc.)

Posted by: SprintNewbie

got it to work, finnally. had to un-install mcaffe for some reason.

Posted by: Nastronomical

How do i setup it up so that it can get my hotmail?

Argh, that's one feature I really like, especially since it makes one-handed typing possible (with symbols) and using two fingers when both Fn and the desired key are on the left side of the board is cramped.

I'll definitely download this and try it, but I'm also going to find the current WM5 ROM (does it come on the driver CD? I don't want the at&t branded one if I can help it) so I can go back.

Posted by: Hova21

Looks like Slingbox isn't working now!!!

Posted by: Foxbat121

Does it come with Voice Command like DASH WM6 update? If so, some please test BT Voice Command dialing to see if Samsung fixed BT stack.

Also, is Internet Sharing still there, i.e. Cingular didn't take it out completely?

These are two things I cared most.

Quote:

Use Windows Mobile Live application in WM6. It should do push email on Hotmail.

Posted by: WolfpackinCO

Startup and shutdown screens no longer obnoxiously loud.
Samsung Popup homescreen much improved.

Sling has a beta release for Windows Mobile 6 phones and a permanent one is coming out in a few weeks.

Posted by: Joecd04475

I had to update ActiveSync. I had version 4.2, but after the WM update, I plugged in the phone and it said I needed version 4.5. I downloaded 4.5 from microsoft, and everything's good.

ActiveSync 4.5:

Orb works fine still.

I still find them annoying, anyway to disable them?

Posted by: importluva

I'm going to give this a go since the blackjack is my weekend/backup phone. Will report back with results.

Posted by: MJBJ

My blackjack was WM6 as this morning.

All is Ok Looks great

Posted by: toddlermn

i just updated to wm6 this mornign too.

internet sharing isn't working anymore on mine... anyone have the same trouble?

i'm also have the issue with alternative symbol not working when you hold a key. Seems like it happens in only certain fields.

This must be a pre-release build.

Posted by: izzat786

So what are the cons to this build? Screen shots? Does anybody know if this will void warranty

Posted by: Ghettopops

I no longer have service on mine now wtf keeps telling me my phone is off.

Posted by: cmatthews

Running WM6 on mine now, so far everthing seems to be working ok. Will keep you posted. It hung up on me the first try, but then disabled antivirus/spyware protection and it went through without anytrouble. I was even able to install it using my Mac Book Pro running XP through Parallels.

Posted by: importluva

it worked and it looks GREAT!

Posted by: VIPERxGTx2000

What is internet sharing?

and what is the difference between Edge, 3G and HSDPA? because i'm on the fringe area of 3G and my phone keeps switching between E, 3G and H. I used the *#1546792*# to just leave it on WCDMA.

Posted by: ARHYTHMATIK

I am having a problem with ActiveSync now. I have the most recent version and it will update if I uninstall it, then re-install it. But if I simply unplug the phone, then plug it in later to sync, ActiveSync won't recognize the phone. Anyone else having this problem?

Also, yes-- Slingbox doesn't work with WM6 yet.

Posted by: jperonto

Since this upgrade is branded as an I600 Wm6, will all the AT&T settings still work? I am interested in the upgrade but don't want to lose functionality of my programs such as Voice Command, Slingplayer, Windows Live Search, Autoflight and Core player. Has anyone noticed a difference in reception?

Posted by: ivwshane

So I ran some internet speed (going to various sites) comparisons between my bj with wm6 another bj with wm5 and my bb 7130.

Between all them the bb 7130 was actually the fastest at pulling up websites, wm5 came second and the bj with wm6 actually was the slowest

Posted by: ivwshane

Yeah my phone switched to "H" as well but I noticed no speed difference between edge, 3g and H.

Did you enable USB connections again on active sync?

try putting the CD that came with the blackjack in the drive. The program paused flashing my phone and the "add new hardware" wizard came up and I had to put in the CD to finish installing everything. Then the program continued flashing my phone.

Posted by: importluva

Has anyone figured out how to change the right softkey from "Contacts" to something else? On my WM5, I was able to change it to Internet Explorer.

Posted by: indiana-moto

This must be a pre-release build. All at&t branding is included, medianet and mms work right away after upgrade.

Cons:
Opera 8.65 will not relaunch afetr exiting program (requires soft reset to open Opera)

Battery runs hotter (may lead to a lose of battery life)

Slower network speeds

Onboard ROM
wm5 after hard reset - 18.1 of 49.1
wm6 after hard reset - 19.5 of 48.4

Pros:

Pretty icons (lol)

Menus a little speedier

No voice command and bluetooth

Will play with it for a few days.

Posted by: opdaddy

Well, it worked.

Posted by: IlKevinlI

I don't even have the INternet Sharing icon anymore. Its not even in the WINDOWS folder.

No internet sharing scares me. I think I will wait on this...

Posted by: indiana-moto

Just noticed it does have a Video Share option now.

Posted by: opdaddy

does anyone notice speed is slower of media net?

Posted by: IlKevinlI

I think Cingular may have have removed it to prevent people from tethering.

Posted by: coinstar99

Well so far I haven't had any real issues. A few programs that run slightly different. I haven't messed around with media net enough to see the speed and later today I think I am going to try a dsl reports speed test. The menu's are speedier, and so far I do think the key presses are more responsive than they were before, something that was a real annoyance, whenever you'd type a message and it looked like a 3 year old did it. I am going to keep checking back here to see what everyone else thinks. The big question though, how do you think it got "leaked"?

Posted by: opdaddy

who knows. but when cingular comes out with the official upgrade, can we do the same use theirs?

Posted by: opdaddy

will the games in medianet work with WM6?

Posted by: jk5598224

I think it sucks still that the programs don't end. you have to go to Task Manager and stop all like WM5.

Posted by: opdaddy

i like it because it lets you juggle between programs. sometimes i like to go to another program while already in another program. this way you dont have to restart each application

Posted by: ARHYTHMATIK

Yeah- I did enable USB connections. ActiveSync will start trying to connect when I plug the phone in, but then it says it is unable to connect.

The initial "coolness" of WM6 is there with some nice features, but as others have posted- it has its drawbacks.

On another note, you can get HTML email and retrieve messages every 5 minutes now if you want.

Posted by: ARHYTHMATIK

BTW- the typing is MUCH improved. It raraely skips a letter now.

Posted by: Foxbat121

So, no one care to test the currently useless Bluetooth on BlackJack in WM6? Like Voice Dialing via Voice Command? I read one account that VC still does not work over BT.

Posted by: ivwshane

Bluetooth works fine for me. I dont have any voice dial programs so I cant comment on that.

I'm not sure what makes bt useless to you but it works for me.

Posted by: Foxbat121

Can you hit the BT headset and do voice dialing on it even if you install MS Voice Command (DASH WM6 update gives DASH user free Voice Command)? If not, it's useless. Every other cell phone I used can do that. The problems with BlackJack's BT stack are well documented. A lot of common BT features are not working correctly.

Posted by: ivwshane

Show me how to get voice command and I'll try it.

Posted by: KlamshellKing

So is the update a much needed improvement? The typing, lack of html email, and slowness of IE, and also the horrible task options, made me sell my Blackjack. But it had a bit of water damage too, and the phone was bad.

I currently HATE my treo 750, it just plain sucks.
I loved my Blackjack except for the above... do you think its worth it to buy another Blackjack after the update?

Posted by: Ac1d Puppy

I upgraded and yeah I was expecting Windows Mobile Live, To my surpise it's not there? Damn AT&T wanting me to use OZ, how in the hell am I supose to get my Hotmail now? I Hate useing mobile.live.com I was looking forward to push email, sigh

Posted by: maevro

Since this is a forum on the ATT/Cingular website, you would think by now they would have taken it down if they didn't want it up, so it has to be somewhat legit one would think.

Damn, where is WM6 for my 750?@!?

Posted by: shizat63

Why would any of you guys install this and risk bricking your $300 BJ?

Seems to me the cons far outweigh the pros.

Never mind. You have no idea what you've missed.

VC can announce incoming caller ID, incoming email, upcoming calendar events and dial a phone out just by saying your contact's name or phone number (without any voice trainning). All this can be done through BT if BlackJack's BT stack wasn't screwed up so bad in the first place.

If its the same as my HTC TyTn the letters mean the following:
E=Edge
3G=3G available
H=an active 3G data connection.

The easy way to tell is to check email or something while it shows 3G and see if it immediately changes over to an H

Hmm. I'll wait for the final release from AT&T. This download sounds fishy to me.

I just noticed that was gone, I was wondering why I couldn't sign in to some web sites, then realized when I typed in plain text that by holding a key down I couldn't get the alternate symbol!

Also, Internet connection sharing has been crippled! WTG the *new* AT&T!

Posted by: philpeeps

i'll hold off on the urge to update in hopes that this is an alpha version of the update. I will also be sure to backup the internet connection sharing exe files (maybe the whole \Windows folder) and see if these missing bits will work on WM6...

Posted by: baimo

Internet sharing app is gone, bbut I just used the following method (from dereks blog) usong the bj as a modem and got 3g speeds. once setup it is easy: Here it is from https://blogs.pointbridge.com/Blogs.../Post.aspx?ID=8

After a lot of troubleshooting and talking with Cingular tech support, the solution was pretty easy. On the BJ change the communiucations mechanism for the USB connection to "modem" and plug in the USB cable. After the proper drivers install, open the device manager and locate the SAMSUNG CDMA modem and open the properties. Click on the advanced tab and type (case sensitive):

AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","wap.cingular"

After this, setup a new modem connection and use the following information:

Phone Number: *99#
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1

Double click on the connection and viola, your computer is now tethered and you can surf the internet, download mail, etc. Note, you do need a proper data plan from Cingular for this to work

Posted by: coinstar99

After playing with it all day, I am still pretty happy. I had a program that was causing a memory leak, I am sure its just that it wasn't written for WM6. I would let the Blackjack sit for a little while and come back and it would run very very slow, since I removed the app and did a hard reset everything seems to be just fine. I only installed the bare minimum of apps, Resco Explorer, a Home Screen Editor, it doesn't do much other than allow me to removed plugins as I haven't gotten it to actually add them. I also installed Mobi Pocket Reader so that I can read ebooks. With those apps on the device it runs just fine. I usually have AIM via OZ running all the time and it doesn't seem to take to many resources either. So far I am not really going to say there is anything I want to change, other than little stuff like a quick launcher of some sort other than the MRU.I still would like to see a real stable and integrated threaded SMS. How is it working for everyone else?

Posted by: netronin

Updated here with no issues. Direct Push is working fine against
our exchange server. Only issue I've noticed is the battery is getting
warmer than before.

Can anyone tell me what the free memory is on you BJ is after a factory
reset with WM5? I'd like to compare it with WM6 (mine shows 11.6mb
free).

Posted by: coinstar99

Did anyone else notice the Videoshare option in the menu? Anyone try and use it?

So basically you don't need to use the ics app anymore. This way makes more sense and seems easier to enable (without having to create a shortcut).

Posted by: z6joker9

You are right, I'm working on trying to figure it out now. For some reason, my Vista machine will not navigate to the /Windows folder on the BJ. Give me a few minutes and I should have that link working (I'll post again when I do)

Posted by: z6joker9

I've been trying every trick in the book, and I cannot get that stupid file to go anywhere. Sorry guys

Posted by: z6joker9

I'm following the sets using Windows Vista and I get this:

[StartDownload => 0] StartDownload !!
[PDA] Connect and Power-on the Device.
[PDA]Device Not Found.

Any ideas? The BJ says USB Initial : OK
Tx > USB_READY COMMAND (scrolls through 1-4)

[Phone] Active OFF

Eventually the Tx line change to PC Conntection : FAIL.

and

[PDA] USB Cable Power OFF shows at the bottom.

Posted by: ivwshane

How do you find out what bt profiles this thing supports? When I connected my phone to my pc via bt only obex and voice gateway showed up:O

Posted by: VIPERxGTx2000

This happened to me too, unplug your phone and close the program, then turn off your phone, open the program then turn the phone back on in "flash" mode again. This did it for me.

Posted by: autigers20

for those having problems with the update. there are VERY detailed instructions on how to do an update here:

http://www.samsungwireless.com/tech...i607_patch.html

follow those instructions exactly - except instead of running the "SGH_i607_GB4_Rebranding_EMR.exe" file - you run the file that was posted at the beginning of this thread.

Posted by: z6joker9

If anyone is having trouble updating from Vista, just to let you know, I tried it on an XP machine and it's updating as it should.

Posted by: z6joker9

Is it just me, or does it seem to run a bit slower? Should I hard reset after the update, or did it pretty much already do that?

Is the bluetooth headset selector still there? Does it automatically switch from one headset to another like all other WM devices?

No such luck for me. If I connect my Spiders, I have to manually select my WEP200 to get back to it, and vice versa.

Can you tell me how to assign a button to activate it? Under voice command setup "voice button" it gives me some options but I have no idea what buttons they belong to (app1, app2, etc).

Posted by: z6joker9

Anyone know how to edit the home screen to add the windows live search bar directly on it? I've seen this done on a dash I believe.

Posted by: z6joker9

Just FYI guys, it looks like Internet Sharing (IntShrUI.exe) may be just renamed. If you look in the /windows folder, there is a shortcut (.ink) file called Internet Sharing, with a target of MSINTERNET_SHARING, however, I cannot find this file. Perhaps it's just an early build that it wasn't included, or maybe it's there and someone else may find it?

Posted by: chsoriano

So push e-mail for Windows Live isn't in WM6? I thought it was going to be included, why is it telling me I have to buy PocketMSN? I already pay for MSN Internet Service, yes I know it's not the same but this is still retarded. I think people who subscribe to MSN or Hotmail should at least receive this PocketMSN crap for free.

You don't need to map it. By default, hold the volume up key to activate it. However, my chanllege to you is to use BT headset to activate it, not to use phone buttons. I can already use VC today on BJ fine except for BT part.

Modem dial-up is nothing new. It's the default tethering mode for all phones. Basically, it has following problem:

(1) There is no Bluetooth support
(2) You can't charge the phone while connect to PC in modem mode
(3) You have to install modem drivers and setup complicated DUN profile on PC. Most phone's modem drivers do not seem to be compatibe with Vista.

With ICS, there is no setup of anything on PC. And by Microsoft's own account, it's better than DUN and faster.

ok, eversince the update, my phone has not been connecting to the internet intermittently. Sometimesit connects and others it says "ALERT the page cannot be found. Check the name and try again" even though I try a lot of different sites.

Does anyone here know what I should do to fix this? Thanks.

Someone mentioned that you need change default APN name from ims.cingular to wap.cingular.

I think that the 'reason for why this obviously leaked released alpha/early beta version' has not been taken down (as of yet) is possibly to get a more broad spectrum of various issues, ect that people are experiencing...as this type of testing does not cost $$ the new AT&T Wireless Research/Data Div anything...
Typically I am one who usually likes to test early Beta file releases....however with the present keyboard issues with 'no function' when holding down a key for Alt symbol...I will hold off until the official updated files for WM6 are released...

That being said question for those who have installed and are in the 'testing phase'....

1) Has the issue with the present crippled JBlend files within WM5 been rectified....like the Gmail App....(not having to use the IBM J9 Java files, with the font fixes, ect)?

2) Does the apparently updated PIE for WM6 still get the dreaded blank white page on sites when surfing from data corruption issues...on occasion?

Updated my Blackjack and it went well. I'm not too impressed with the upgrade and the speed of the phone. Tried to do a Sprite backup but it will not cross OS upgrades. I ended up reverting back to WM5, restored my phone with Sprite, and now everything is back to normal. I hope that this is not the final build of WM6. It is nice looking, but in many ways is a step back from WM5 I guess I'll see what the final release is like, but for now I feel better off with the old OS.

I tried that, but it still not connecting half the time.

Are you connected to your PC via USB when you're having problems? If so, disconnect and try again. I couldn't connect to the internet at first, thought it was going to be a problem, but then just unplugged the phone from the USB, and everything was fine.

No, it happens anywhere I go. Most of the time I have to restart the phone for the internet to start working again.

I also get this error alot "ALERT The page you are looking for cannot be found due to an unknown error 0x80072f78"

Last night I installed the 'WM6' for the Blackjack and so far all seems ok but I have been used to using the back key to take me to the last screen I was on and also the end key to 'go home'.. It is appearing these are now not working. I did notice that the left arrow key will go back and of course I can use the home key to go home.. was just wondering if anyone was having the same trouble and/or knew how to fix this?

Under my GPRS settings... now I have two connections listed:

1.) IMS Cingular
2.) MEdia Net

I saw someone say that we had to change ims.cingular to wap.cingular, but my internet is working fine. On the other hand, does anybody know why I would have these two connections? I think I used to only have one in WM5.

free).

After using it for a day I think I've answered a few of my questions. I believe the battery acting warmer than usual was caused by the device indexing my data (exchange direct push 400+ contacts/1 month of calendar/2 weeks of email) and that also accounted for the extra consumed memory. This morning the battery feels normal and the amount of free memory is where it should be (22.8mb free).

One additional thing I've noticed is that scrolling in the device is noticeably slower. Since this is not the official release, they will most likely resolve this and any remaining issues (although for me there are none).

I noticed that the end key wasn't working to go to the home screen earlier today, a hard reset will fix it, but I'm not sure what caused it.

Is there a way to disable indexing, I noticed that my battery is warmer also, but I don't have an exchange server setup.

1) Too bad that the present JBlend app is still crippled (at least at this stage of the new OS)... I don't see this changing for the better with the final...oh well

2) This is definately a positive aspect of the new WM6 PIE overall functionality.

Thanks indiana-moto for the feedback...

No idea if you can disable it.... just an educated guess on my part based on the ability to search items by entering letters. I would imagine it's only a performance hit on the initial index so see if your battery stops being warm after a while. Also, how much data do you have on the device?

Posted by: chsoriano

Wow... I just noticed that this is tearing through my battery. I just popped in my extended battery less than 2 hours ago, and my battery life is already at about 50% (2 bars). I haven't even been using it, no internet browsing or video. Is anyone else seeing this? My extended battery used to last me 2 1/2 days, now it looks like it won't even last me one.

Mine initially seemed to be consuming alot of battery but now seems to be running normally. Do you have yours set to GSM only or Auto (mine is GSM only)?

I have very little data on the phone itself, 2 photos, no videos, a few (less than 10) mp3 ringtones. I have only installed the Live Search app, a ringtone package from Microsoft, and a small sudoku game.

I also just noticed that my battery is already down to about 50%, I've only had this battery in for almost an hour and a half. That's ridiculous...

Posted by: t2k3

can someone get the internet sharing application from wm5 and just post it here, so that we can see if it can run on wm6, the shortcut is there in wm6. I think ATT just made it harder for us to tether or will charge us for that application that made life so much easier. That application allowed me to use my mac and windows laptop without a hitch.

For some reason I can't find that setting, I know I've seen it before...

Posted by: Ishimaru

I'm not sure if anyone noticed yet, but if you have ringtones that are larger than 300KB, they will not show up, no matter what you do. However! I have found the reg key to fix it!

Go to HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds

There should be a "MaxFileSize" key there, just delete it, and close the reg editor. Now go into sounds, and BAM, your ringtones are back!

Has anyone figured out how to get rid of the UGLY 3G icon? I've tried everything and can't get rid of it. And another thing I've noticed, is Opera Mobile is about half as slow as IE in bandwidth tests. With IE, I get around 900Kbps, with Opera, about 500Kbps. I just think that's a little weird is all, and it's not WM6, as it happened with WM5. So far, that's really the only gripe I have, now if we can find some good WM6 themes, I'd be happy

I tried finding this key, and I don't seem to have it, but I can't use Ringtones larger than 300kb. I have a file that is called "FileSizeLimit" but it isn't a key. I just thought it was the tone I was using, it makes me feel better as it is something M$ did. Any other fixes?

It was not named maxfilesize, but similar(I forget and deleted it without writing it down). it is a value underneath sounds. Anyway i deleted it and Bango. You da man

Wow... somehow all of my contacts got erased... it's actually kind of funny, stupid integration.....

I installed Windows Live Mobile on my phone, it asks if I want to synchronize with outlook and merge duplicates so I let it.

I noticed there were some contacts still on my phone and not on Live so I told my phone to add them to live. Then I thought that maybe I could tell my phone to not synchronize contact and e-mail with my computer. I was wrong.

My contacts from my phone were deleted, as well as all of my contacts from Outlook with the exception of maybe 15.

Outlook is setup with the Office Outlook Connector, so when that happened, almost all of my contacts from my Windows Live account were deleted. I opened up my Windows Live Messenger as a desperate attempt and saw all of my contacts dissappearing.

Sucks.

I'm gonna have to try this on my BJ when I get some spare time.

umm, come to think about it, I need to remember where's the last time I used my BJ. it's somewhere buried in my stash of phones, but I don't know exactly where.

I guess it's my own fault for not knowing just exactly where it is. I've been having so much fun with my Nokia N95 that all my other phones are feeling left out.

Posted by: Mashie

I did the install and all seems fine with the udpate. As reporrted, ICS is definately missing. To me, this looks like a bets or test build and definately not a final build. I has the old WM5 startup screen. Also, it does not seem to have the same WM6 noficication sounds. It seems to be using many of the same WM5 sounds.

Overall it seems a nice step in the right direction for the BJ, however I still don't like WM6 Standard as much as WM6 Pro. Also I really wish Samsung took the time to replace the BT stack with one that supports Voice Dialing.

Posted by: superspartan

I'm reloading WM5 as I write this. This upgrade is just not worth the trouble right now.

Cons:
Fatal errors
Slower UI
No ICS
No "Message" Right Softkey
No alternative symbol presses
Battery runs alarmingly hot

Pros:
Pretty Icons
Eliminates a few missed key presses

Posted by: grinny11

well it seems about the same speed to me and i only have one major gripe about it so far

i can't get voice command to announce the incoming call

i've installed version 1.6 and have it enabled for speaker but it won't work. the symbol command i can deal with and i love that i can now type faster on it too.

Posted by: baimo

I like it so far. The typing is much better

Posted by: jayiw

Does anyone know if this is an Alpha or Beta release? With all the problems I cannot see this being the official release. I checked the Samsung site and the March update is still there. I also did not see anything official on the Cingy/Att site.

Its absolutely not the final version. Its simply a leaked rom much like a verison of the Tmo Dash rom was leaked before the final was officially posted. Hopefully, it won't be too long and some of the things noted here will get addressed and fixed in the offical version.

Posted by: Joecd04475

Another issue I noticed is streaming video, from cellular video for example, is very choppy. On the bright side full screen mode in windows media player is actually full screen.

Don't be too sure about this. Dash's final build is 17741.0.2.1 while this BlackJack ROM is build 17740.0.2.0 so they are practically in sync.

17741.0.2.1
17740.0.2.0

They are different PLUS beta as in beta for the blackjack, not really a beta WM6, but a beta on the device. The final release for the BlackJack will work better then this one.

Turn the phone off, then press Power and Up on the d-Pad at the same time. It will hard reset and wipe all of your data.

Posted by: mcm99

Does anybody know how to uninstall all of the at&t software from the OS?

On my 8125, I could just shut the phone off after a hard reset while the custom apps were installing, ot prevent installation.

Is there a similar workaround for the BJ w/ WM6?

Posted by: Ishimaru

Smartphones don't work the same as PocketPCs, so any customization, is already built into the ROM, there isn't an ExtendedROM at all. You should be able to find the files, and replace them with what you want.

And by the way, I WAS able to update via Vista :P

Posted by: ivwshane

I don't know what just happened but I picked up my blackjack just now and it was really really warm!

About an hour ago I did a hard reset and rebooted the phone, I tried some websites and then put the phone down. This is the first time I've experienced the warm battery issue, wtf!

Posted by: ARHYTHMATIK

I'm not experiencing any battery drain or "warm" battery issues. Battery life seems about the same for me, but I haven't been using the extended battery either.

For me, the update to WM6 was worth it, simply for the typing fix. I don't think I typed one sentence the entire time I had WM5 without the Blackjack skipping a letter. Now, it rarely skips a letter. That alone made it worth the upgrade for me.

Posted by: IlKevinlI

When you first install WM6 the battery will get VERY warm because it does an index of the phone. Once this completes (approx 20 mins) it will return to normal. If you do a hard reset of the phone, it does the index all over again. Nothing to worry about.

Posted by: amg212

After reading everything in this thread, I'm not going near this release. Sounds like it improves a few things, breaks a few things, and fails to address some of the Blackjack-specific quirks that people have complained about in other threads.

The one positive in all of this is that it appears that the talk of a real WM6 upgrade for the BJ being on the horizon is that much more plausible now. I look forward to the official upgrade - and if it still doesn't address some important issues (specifically the Bluetooth absurdities) I'll be looking for a new device (Q9h anyone??)

AMG

Posted by: Foxbat121

amg212,

You nailed it. I'm on the same boat as you But I wouldn't touch any Moto Smartphones with a ten-foot pole. If you think Samsung is bad at fixing phone specific issues, wait until you get a Moto Smartphone

My battery would get warm doing heavy internet (tethering) when on WM5 so I wouldn't expect anything different here.

I think the warm battery issue is psychological.

I can't find a way to get the live for mobile client on WM6. I have tried the connect version and it always comes back with installation unsuccessful. This is definitely a deal breaker. Push Hotmail was THE reason for me to upgrade and now they have somehow killed it...Great

I can't even get my hotmail setup through messaging.

Application data/sounds.

I'd be curious if bringing over the WM5 Internet Sharing would work? I get the sense from MSFT link that Internet Sharing has changed a bit. Maybe Cingular neefs to work on it and it will show up in the final build.

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb158534.aspx

Posted by: Ishimaru

Read my post a couple pages back about the FileSizeLimit reg key that you have to delete. Either Samsung, or at&t thought it was funny to limit your ringtone size to 300KB, so I found the way around it.

In all honesty, I'm not having a single problem at all, everything is working just fine This actually might hold me off until I get the Kaiser ^_^

Posted by: wnpublic

I do think that it's sucking the battery dry very quickly, and it does seem awful hot. My guess is that it's not terminating the 3G data connection appropriately after transfer. There's a lot of measurement and signalling data that is sent intensively during a download, and somehow the radio is not stopping these processes once the transfer is complete. just a guess.

Posted by: coinstar99

I have been running the wm6 now since i saw it on the web and so far i have been very happy. it seems to work well. The typing fix was enough for me, and i like tht when i get 3G i can use the video share option, they have been talking about that for a long time. I still wish there was more memory or better memory management but I dont see that being an issue related to wm6, thats more of device cause the dash is to have more memory. I might have kept my Treo if there had been a beta rom update like this for it.

Do have a few issues. Memory leaks are one. Another is that WM 6 can't find OperaLauncher to launch links from email. Worked fine on 5. Most things work fine or as bad as they were.

Posted by: Ishimaru

I haven't noticed any memory leaks at all, I have a steady 25MB left after rebooting it last night, and playing around some more.

Posted by: SunnyE

Can anyone confirm is the Java limitation, which broke Gmail app, is fixed in WM6 ? Does it allow network for entire session ?

Posted by: VIPERxGTx2000

two more problems I found:

The end call button wouldn't work. so i left someone a 5 minute long voicemail. The only thing I could do to hang up was power off.

When I tried typing my friends name in "John" into the dialer screen it wouldn't bring up anything after Jo even though he is in my address book. It brought up all the other Jo-'s but but his, I did only talk to him earlier though so that might have something to do with it. After I turned off the phone and turned it back on, it found his name when I typed it in.

Posted by: coinstar99

I have a few memory leaks, though they might be attributed to apps that I run such as Mobi Pocket, which takes almost a full minute to load and is almost unacceptable. I stopped using Right Menu as it would cause me memory issues. I would love to know how you have a steady 25 megs left!?!? I usually am lucky that I have around 15 or so.

Completely agree, but I am outside of a 3G network area at the moment, and since installing WM6, my extended battery has been lasting less than 1 day. With WM5 the phone would make it through 1 day with the extended battery, and still have about 60-75% remaining depending on my usage. Now, from 9am - 1pm it has already used 50% of the battery. I changed the network from Auto to GSM and it's still the same.

Posted by: VIPERxGTx2000

did anyone figure out how to do videoshare?

Posted by: coinstar99

My girl and I tried it last night, but I am pretty sure that you have to be in a 3G area for it to work. What you do is while on a call hit the right menu key and you will see a option for video share. On my phone its grayed out, and like I said I think that is a 3G issue. I am dying to try this out though

Posted by: IlKevinlI

I tried your files and although it runs on the phone, it doesn't seem to share the connection and Im not sure why.

Thanks for your efforts though.

enjoy, and let me know if there are any other files that are needed to de-cripple this thing...

(dump files into \windows directory and then create a shortcut to the executable and put it in \windows\start...)

I agree the phone seems to not drop connections but it's happening when the phone is locked to GSM only as well. At first I thought it was the initial indexing of data but now I see there is more going on. Time to revert back for me.

Yeah, I might be going back to WM5 unless I can figure out why the battery is draining so freakin fast.

Seems to run fine, but I think the PAN profile is now missing from the Blackjack...

My Blackjack is not running any hotter and my battery life is exactly the same as it was with WM5. Maybe I am just lucky, lol.

I don't actually see very much advantage to WM6 over WM5, though.

WM6 Professional is a lot better than Standard. Having used both, it's almost like night and day. But, imo, WM6 Standard is MUCH better than WM5 by all means. Honestly, I could care less about ICS as well...I already HAVE internet on my pc. The few bug fixes, HTML e-mail, the glossy look are keepers for me. Also, my battery life is the exact same as WM5, and my battery isn't hot at all, only when I have it charging, but that is normal.

So why are some people suffering from increased battery drain and others aren't? And I'm not even using CV or playing music. Phone use and texting only.

Also, does anyone know what IMS Cingular is under "GPRS" in the connection settings. I have IMS Cingular in addition to MEdia Net. When I deleted IMS Cingular, the internet wouldn't work, however when I restarted the phone, the internet worked fine, but the IMS Cingular connection is still gone.

Yeah, the battery drain issue is strange. Mine was chugging along normally and then out of the blue it got hot and went from 75% free to warning about low battery. Downgraded back to wm5.

As for IMS, maybe it's for the video sharing piece?

Yeah, I think I'm going to downgrade back to WM5 tonight. As for IMS, I think you might be right, I'll have to check later this afternoon when I go back into a 3g area.

Posted this on the Cingular thread as well fwiw...

Internet Connection Sharing -- BOOYAH!

OK I knew I tried this last night but it didn't work... if you try to app unlock your phone manually (registry change to HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\0000101b key from 0 to 1 didn't work because the key already existed and was locked). To fix this you either need to download the SurrealNetworks App Unlock or make it yourself (google is your friend).

Install this cab file and reboot your phone... you will then be able to change the key listed below:

Step by Step:

1. Get Internet Sharing files from HoFo (see this thread for a link)
2. Copy those files to DEVICE\Windows\
3. Install the SurrealNetworks App Unlock Cab file
4. Reboot device
5. Edit key on the device: HKLM\System\State\Connectivity\InternetSharing to a value = 1

Optional (fixes links and icons)

6. You will need to add these keys and values to your device's registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:M SINTERNET_SHARING
Values under this key:
Value Name Value data Base Value type
0 MSINTERNET_SHARING REG_SZ
1 IntShrUI.exe REG_SZ
2 1 Decimal REG_DWORD
3 0 Decimal REG_DWORD

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\intshruiapp\DefaultIcon
Values under this key:
Value Name Value data Base Value type
Default tapres.dll,-14294 REG_SZ

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\intshruiapp\SelectIcon
Values under this key:
Value Name Value data Base Value type
Default tapres.dll,-14295 REG_SZ

When you launch the program you'll have to do so from Windows\IntShrUI.exe, unless you create a shortcut in your start menu....

Have fun...

Cheers

Still works the same in my BMW. Bluetooth just shows it as "i607" now, instead of "SGH-i607". Address book still doesn't transfer...

Unless you've been able to flash ROMs in the past with it, the answer is no.

Check your registry settings and make sure you're application unlocked - 0000101b should = 1. I'm also assuming you were able to make the registry change in step 5. Double check these values. I'm also not positive that the optional steps are "optional" but it seemed that way. Try all the steps and make sure they take and let us know if you get it to work. I did get connected so I do know it's possible.

Cheers.
