Interesting. It doesn't seem to find my MP3's, I created a folder structure like yours and restarted. I'll keep messing with it.

Thanks!

you have to edit the registry for this one

That worked! Thanks!

Installed this afternoon, and it's working absolutely fantastically. Thanks so much to the people who made this work.

One quick question that I can't figure out: it seems that the ability to customize the right soft key has been removed. I miss this -- is there an easy fix?

Tamu, go to my site and download the app unlock...connect your phone to your pc and simply double click the appunlock.exe

Regarding Bluetooth DUN...

Something of note. I found this link in my bookmarks for when I was tinkering with my 8125 and WM6. I installed the CAB and lo-and-behold, the DUN profile showed up on my BJ. I can see it on my Vista machine, and it seems to connect, but then hangs on the 'Verifying Username and Password' step. After about a minute it times out. I've tinkered with APN settings and such, with no luck.

Da_G, might this be the same problem you encountered?
Thanks, Da_G for the ROM!

I had a couple of ringtones on WM5 that don't seem to work. one has a MP3-drm extension and the other is a short MP3 but I can't get either to work with WM6. Anyone else have a problem with this or does anyone have a tip for me on how to fix it? I wouldn't normally worry, but I enjoyed having Ball and Chain play when my wife called.

Thanks![/QUOTE

the mp3 drm will play in media player i think but you have to have the license..what ive done is this:
convert all the drm files and/or the wma files to mp3s using wma convert..its on my server at http://dan.omefilms.com/apps look for it. hope this helps

no app unlock is not needed

now ya'll know AT&T is all over this - unofficially of course... I have been banned from their forums many times for getting a little deep into how GSM/UMTS actually works, use of ROMs and 3rd party applications etc - pick any reason... I saw a post in their hidden WM6 discussion actually thanking those involved with this ROM from those providing the dump, those building the update, providing the web space as well as those testing it beating the AT&T staff hands down in time of delivery... I'll bet if the truth were known that the ROM is actually ready but some marketing "person" or "executive" is holding it up in order to get more $$$$$$$$$$ out of potential as well as existing subscribers. Somewhat understanable since $$$$$$$ talks and we all know what walks but something has to be said about the quick turnaround within this forum now with about 60K installs potentially since there were that many downloads.

I have also noticed they have let up a bit about "leaked" ROM discussions in the hidden discussion...

as for the clock staying on, no, there is no way that i know of, unless there is a reg edit to change the length...also, go to the website of the creator of the software to get other icons, skins and other screensavers..i have a rolex for mine

thanks guys for all the work getting this latest version of wm6 up and going... and also providing a place for us to get it.

but my question is the bolded. what's their site? i went here:

http://www.e-natives.com/

but i don't see much to download. do you have to register with the site to access more downloads? also, is there a tut for adding their skins? been looking for one all night.

thanks for any help and awesome job again.

Posted by: shansmi

nope and he is correct there is a regedit but I would leave that one alone.. I did not have much luck with it in the first ROM...hopefully AT&T will get that working like WM5 when WM6 officially comes out.

Posted by: Da_G

Customizing the RSK was provided through a 3rd party app samsung wrote for wm5, which is not included in any of the wm6 builds, it's on my list of things to cook in.

Re: BT DUN, that sounds like the problem yes, i've traced it further, it's not connecting to the same DUN stack as the corded one, it's connected to a non-configured generic DUN stack, duno why that is. I don't think it'll be difficult to fix. I'm burned out from my 17 hour day tho, i probably wont resume work on it until sometime tomorrow.

has anyone tried to download an application from MediaNet?

My belief is they are now checking the OS of your phone when subscribing. I was running the original "leaked" WM6 ROM with all working fine until last week when I was trying to help someone with a Java game. The game would fail to install and then I noticed WM native applications would not download either. I called into 611 and once they found out I was running WM6 they said it was a phone issue. My response was that dog won't hunt because installs from non-AT&T sites are working fine (Java and WM native) - just everything from MediaNet is failing. After upgrading to the 2nd ROM, I tried to re-register/subscribe and download MyCast Weather. I could subscribe but never rcvd a chance to download the JAR/JAD files. Looking at my subscriptions, the new subscription was never picked up by the MediaNet system. I looked back at the history (WM5 and WM6) and all other duplicate subscriptions were there so I know it is NOT a phone issue. Once up on the new PDA load, I again tried to get MyCast Weather with the same result.

From my experience, WM is usually an all or nothing type of thing especially with data i.e. it is either all working or all not working....

anyone else?

Posted by: Da_G

Hmm, they're probably reading the UserAgent out of the browser, you can probably replace it with WM5's UserAgent and be golden. Maybe i'll incorporate that into the cooked rom (if someone can test and verify that)

Posted by: integra95gsr

wow, i wish i could keep up on the thread. this one moves soooo fast! i'm so stoked that everyone is happy with the rom. i sure can't wait to see what da_g does with it!

Posted by: shansmi

Da_G

Again awesome work with this ROM.

I have a sidebar question. What is it you do with elections? Unless I am mistaken "playing" with technology seems to be something you are very good at. Have you missed your calling or is it a money thing? I am compensated well for "playing" with this stuff all day long. It has been a while since I pulled a 17 though. Not with phones, that is just a hobby done usually because someone told me no but with IP networks and Telecom switching networks ....

Keep up the great work!

Anything over 300kb? I had to reset my registry entry once I updated to WM6. WM5 was fine, but WM6 reset the 300KB max ringtone file size.

Does anyone use Opera Mini 4 beta 3 on their blackjack?

If so, whenever you go to any page does it always ask permission to use the internet?

this is soooo annoying. anyone know how to stop it?

Posted by: Da_G

The included Java Midlet Manager that runs Opera Mini has security restrictions that cause this. You aren't allowed to choose "ask once, never again", but the software is capable of it. One of the things on my laundry list of fixes.

I'm coming in to this thread very late, but I'll try and contribute something useful. With UCGD2 already installed/operational (since it came out), I tried to load the UCGF1 ROM that is on the dan.omefilms web site and got the same result as you describe. Just for giggles, I hard reset my phone and tried it again. Worked like a charm. Then I installed the UCGI3 "update", experienced the exact chain of events described in the text file that comes with the update. Pulled the battery, rebooted, I'm in like Flynn.

Has anyone besides myself had difficulty with the Fn - Caps Lock while using SMS in the i607UCGF1 ROM?

Damn! I'm out of it for a day and 12 new pages have spawned from the thread. LOL

Hmm... I've been playing with some of the work from sarcasmsra
He has an .exe that creates a i730 Modem "Serial Port" recognizable by my hx4705's BT stack. This looks like it may be worth some additional investigation (later today.)

FWIW, my WM6 8125 does still have ICS, but it's not called ICS, it's IntShr.exe. The program, however, looks exactly the same as ICS, and allows for BT PAN and USB Internet sharing as expected. For giggles, I tried to copy it from the 8125 to my Blackjack, but it's in ROM on the 8125 and it won't let me copy the file.

Not sure if this will help the efforts, but there it is.

Thanks VERY MUCH Integra and Da_G for all the work - this is a much more stable version of WM6......as evidenced by the speed of additional posts (and downloads) the fruits of your hard work is being enjoyed by MANY folks!!

Just one question, if I may:
I am on T-Mobile with an unlocked BJ. Using I3, radio version D2.
In Settings>Phone>All Calls>Networks......Menu (RSK)>Preferred Networks. When the list of preferred networks is returned, everything is named "T-Mobile". Each individual network shows the correct codes, but they are all called T-Mobile. Same when manually looking for a new network.
I travel some, so am concerned that the roaming capabilities will perhaps not be working correctly. In WM5, the list showed up correctly - Network names were listed (at&t, etc). Thinking it was perhaps the Radio "D2", I flashed the phone back to WM5 (at&t), and then PDA "I3". But no joy!! The list of networks still shows as "T-Mobile".......
This has been the case for both WM6 versions - D2 and F1(?).
Does anyone have any ideas? I have searched and searched the registry, and looked on the XDA site, but nothing seems to work.....
Don't know if you are experiencing the same on your phones, with at&t?? Maybe flashing the latest Radio (from Integra's I3) would fix it??
HEEELLLLPPPP!!!!!!

Anyway, thanks again for all the work; it;s really appreciated!!

This thread seriously needs to be divided into sub-threads. Way too many redundant posts, but what can you expect from one with 123+ pages...

1) Technical discussion: discussion of getting features working, etc
2) Help & general discussion: how do I install? Why doesn't <my favorite app> work?, Da_G & txtcaesar rule, AT&T sucks, etc
3) FAQ: Where's the ROM? What are the differences between WM5/6, etc.

Regarding networks....

Odd, my BJ doesn't have that option at all....

Settings->Phone->All Calls->Networks: It says (as expected), Current Network : AT&T

under Menu (RSK) I have 'Find a New Network' and 'Cancel'. I get an error that 'Settings cannot be saved' if I try to 'Find a New Network'.

Posted by: facultus

If for some reason it does not work, is there a way to go back to WM5?

You can always reflash the Samsung updated ROM (http://erms.samsungusa.com/customer...51&AT_ID=83176).

It's not "signed" by AT&T, but it does work well.

To enable "Preferred Networks" and "Manual Network Selection" do these regedits:
HKLM>Security>Phone
In there you'll find "Manual Disable" - change value to "0"
and "Preferred Disable" - also change value to "0".
To get it to save, you must disconnect GPRS (data) first. If you are using Push (Exchange), turn it off in Activesync, then in Wireless Manager, press Menu (RSK) and then "Disconnect Cellular Data". Now go back and try the Network stuff.

Good advice, thanks. Yes, now I have those options. I just have two entries, and they both say AT&T(GSM). I'm on AT&T, so this seems correct. Isn't this data controlled by the SIM card? Your original post says you're on T-Mobile, and that all of the entries say T-Mobile. Isn't that what it's supposed to say?

When you search for "available networks" or "find a new network", it will give a list.....my WM5 used to say:
T-Mobile(GSM)
AT&T(GSM)

Now it says:
T-Mobile(GSM)
T-Mobile(GSM)

BUT, if I try to pick the second one, it will disallow and kick me back to the first. Because the second one is really at&t...
Yes, the network name is coming from the SIM, and it controls what you see on the HomeScreen. It should be coming from the network.....all official releases seem to work correctly...
When I went to the UK last month, I was using WM5, and I saw O2, and Vodaphone, etc. Somehow all the "beta WM6's" don't seem to have the network name stuff set up. (This was the same with the beta WM6 on the Dash, versus the official release).

Try "Preferred Networks". You will see a long list of networks, all called "T-Mobile" (or at&t), along with their country and network codes. The codes are correct, so I am hoping it will roam ok, but will still show "T-Mobile" on the homescreen...

What is going on or what have I done wrong? I can't install any programs at all. Everything else seems to be working great though.
Thanks in advance!!!!

Direct push does not seem to be working, any ideas on this?

I don't see the option in mail now to send/receive.

I've set up my settings in Activesynch, and it won't allow me to change the username. I use mail2web as as the exchange server.

thanks for the advice txceasar. working great now

Posted by: Delta5

Cinimod1k: I just see the two AT&T's under 'Preferred Networks'. I know what you're talking about though, as I used to have a T-Mobile Blackberry and it would have dozens of T-Mobile 'networks' listed there. An AT&T SIM must just present a different list, or my SIM is just weird, etc. Annoyingly, those registry settings do not 'stick' upon reboot. I've tried a registry editor on the BJ and on the desktop. I can set those entries from 1 to 0, but as soon as I reboot they reset back to 1. Doesn't seem to matter whether the GSM connection is on or off. NBD for me, as I'm on AT&T and have a no-roaming-charges plan anyway.

Factulus: Push mail (and contacts and calendar and tasks) are working perfectly for me. I use Mail2Web too. Note that according to their instructions, the username setting is slightly different between WM5 AKU3 and WM6. Double check that you're using the username for WM6. If it's wrong, that might be the problem. As you noted, you can't change the username on an existing partnership. Simply delete and re-add the Exchange Server partnership with the correct settings.

Got it, I had the settings to synch with the PC instead of the exchange server, it seems to be working now. now thought its hanging and saying connecting for quite a while, about a minute into it now after I sent an email

I don't see the option in mail now to send/receive.

I've set up my settings in Activesynch, and it won't allow me to change the username. I use mail2web as as the exchange server.

You have to delete the server association in Activesync to change the username.

For me (winxp sp2, AS 4.5)

Connect phone, wait till it is done synching, click tools->options highlight microsoft exchange then click the button that says delete server.

let the phone sync again then add the server again.

Thanks for your reply. The only thing I can think of, is that my phone is app unlocked, and I removed the shortcuts in the "\windows\startup" folder. There was a setup.xml (I think) that may be resetting it on each soft reset...

Yawn, I feel like I got beat up. Time to get back to hackin' away at WM6. I think i'm gonna start from scratch today and start by trying to get the desirable WM5 features incorporated into WM6.. A question to start off with, anyone know if the original WM5 had any major differences between the rebranded WM5 available on samsung's site.. if so I might want to get someone who has it to do a ROM dump... by the way someone asked earlier about .NET 2.0.. the date on that is from feb.. so is that before or after the service pack? Also, curiously WM5 had an SDHC driver. I guess it was broken. The same driver (updated quite a bit) is included in WM6. Guess more than the BT stack was rushed/borked :P

Posted by: herbaliser

My phone and eboot versions are i607UCFJE, running I3 on pda. signal is always maxed out and 3g is on all the time. This is why i chose to keep my wm5 radio. If my signal/service is always this awesome (which it is) why would i upgrade my radio?

Is JE stock or the rebranded? if its stock id be happy to dump it.

Oh and did you try that stuff with carousel regarding directx? that makes sense daG, it doesn't look like a flash menu, looks more 3d(directx). People were installing flash lite on the xda thread about carousel, but i read no mention of direct x. Running a 3d program with no 3d drivers results in a white screen, which is what i experienced when i tried to run carousel. I know the white screen thing because 3ds max does the same thing as does modo when switching interfaces.

Can you tell I want the carousel theme?

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd personally much prefer a clean and simple stock Samsung ROM than one with AT&T branding & froo-froo apps.

Good luck, and know that you have a lot of us out here cheering you on!

Yes, I'd much rather see att customization stuff yanked out (startup/shutdown animations, trialware and links, etc) especially if it means it can make space for samsung addons such as carousel/card wheel and their voice dialing addon.

i feel like att yanked out/didnt license the few apps that made the bj exceptional in favor of their crapware.

Posted by: Da_G

JE is stock, unfortunately I don't know of a way to dump the eboot or radio, i'd also be hesitant about messing with them, since there's about a 9000% higher risk of bricking your phone that way vs. messing with the pda portion

What I was referring to was the i607UCFJE PDA part, but I don't think there were many differences between that and i607UCGB4..

Yeah, I dont like 'froo-froo' (lol) apps either, i'm more than likely going to need to strip all that out to make space for stuff anyway. Someone can make a cab to add it back later on if they rreallllllly want it.

As an aside, it seems the BJ uses this method for over-the-air updates.. whoever looks at the log in their NOC is gonna be like "wholly crap. whered all the UCGI3's come from" lol

Posted by: herbaliser

chudy big companies do that all the time. dell. HP. even alienwares don't come bare-os. :P it all comes down to advertising; that computer is slightly cheaper because it comes with that junk they expect everyone to use. Makes it harder for people like us who understand how to get rid of things, but also extremely easy for people that don't know how to install a thing.

DaG i think the main improvement in the rebranding rom was just enhanced roaming, so id guess there would be little to no need for stock.

Id love to see the AT&T log of who has what installed. 50k downloads of I3 first day right? it'll be sweet if you can make it show the stock rom version for AT&T they would be sooooo confused.

oh i know its a sad fact of life but i'm just voicing my disappointment ove the side effect it had on the bj...the i600 was made awesome by its carousel plugin and working voice dial add-on.

i was majorly disappointed that these features were missing on the bj...

this reminds me, da_g how about the non-carousel samsung homescreens on the bj? i dont think anyone really likes or uses them and they could be another good candidate for the chopping block :P

Posted by: cinimod1000

I'll chime in with my vote........a clean OS with no bloatware....that way we can add what we want via cabs etc........

Created a new thread for what wed like to see for a customized WM6 ROM Here

carousel theme is gangsta thats all there is to it. i600 unquestionably is a better phone.

I finally got UCGI3 installed and I found out that my ring tone sizes are limited. Is there a way around that or is that something I just have to live with now??

P1tater, please doa search on the threads here, both of those questions have been answered.

the radio portion of the upgrade was left alone, the only thing that changed was the PDA portion of the upgrade.

there is a fix for the ringtones, do search in this thread for the link.

You have to edit the registry to fix the length.

Thanks Dantan! P1, no prob, you'll just discover that some ppl take serious offense on Boards, I just wanted to give you a heads up!

Posted by: Kevad007

I forget if this has been addressed, in any of the newer BJ Mobile 6 PDA versions that we now have, has the scrolling problem been improved compared to the performance of the initial leaked version. I much preferred how PIE pages loaded and allowed smoother scrolling in Mobile 5 versions and scrolling in Outlook E-Mails etc..... Is that on the list still to be attempted to be improved or was it better in the later or latest Mobile 6 versions?

Posted by: p1tater

thanks for the heads up.
1 last thing and i'll sit back and watch, has anyone posted previously how to fix the dialing problem w/o having to press the function key for every #?
sorry for the stupid questions. I got tired of waiting on at&t to release wm6 so i came here and d/l the versions floating around in here. now im behind in the game pretty bad it seems like.

is there any way to get the smart tool kit to load on boot up?

Posted by: p1tater

maybe im missing it, but when using the stk, i cant lock my keypad and i see where other people are using it and being able to lock the key pad

Posted by: dadditude

Get the latest release from their site: http://smarttoolkit.mobi/

It's in .cab form which will install it so that it will run at startup.

Posted by: Da_G

Well, the right softkey settings program from WM5 doesn't work in WM6. Probably they changed that code, anyone know of a WM6 smartphone rom that has this feature?

Posted by: p1tater

still cant lock the keypad
aaaaargh

Posted by: SHoTTa35

umm, dude quit spamming. Anyways, you press and hold the END button to lock the keypad? That doesn't work?

Posted by: p1tater

nope - uninstalled it - no big deal - lets move on

Posted by: murph

as a long time WinMo user, i'm pretty used to the upgrade/restore process. i keep all my cabs on my memory card and use PIMBackup to backup my contacts and speed dials to the memory card as well.

the one thing that slows my restore time the most is the series of registry changes i make. is there a way to automate these? can i create (1) .CAB or .REG file with all my preferred changes? how would i go about this?

i upgraded last night and started all these changes. i know i'll probably be updating again to a cooked ROM and want to save alll these changes for that next time.

If you hit the back button (looks like a u-turn) and then press "4" that enables key lock with my phone using the latest release of stk. Unlock as you would normally.

you need to edit a registry entry to remove the 300KB barrier.

Use this link and then do a find for 300KB and tehre are instructions on removing this limitation:

what are the versions of your phone? I wonder the radio or whatnot has something to do with it...

Posted by: p1tater

pda i607ucgi3
phone i607ucgb4
h/w rev0.0
eboot i607ucgf1
radio i607ucgb4
running build 17944.0.3.1
what are the versions of your phone? I wonder the radio or whatnot has something to do with it...[/QUOTE

I cant lock my phone either now by holding down the end call button, I just thought it was norm for the upgrade

Posted by: JDyn84

I've updated and everything works great.

I am wondering though, is there a way to upgrade my radio version?

Radio Version: i607UCGB4

Is there a radio version later than this one? Also, when connecting to my imap accounts, activesync always gives me an alert about data while roaming. I'd like to disable the annoyance, is there anyway to do so, and how?

Posted by: Da_G

There must be some 3rd party software you're using that's blocking the hold-end-key-to-lock function, cause it works fine on a fresh install.. and I should know, i've done over 15 fresh installs today prepping an alpha cooked release..

You can upgrade the radio version by using one of the other updaters (will updat eboot, pda, and radio) then apply UCGI3 on top of that.

I got no problem, I can hold down END button and it locks the phone.. My versions are:

PDA Version: i607UCGI3

Phone Version: i607UCGF1

H/W Version REV0.0

Eboot version: i607UCGF1

I went from upgraded wm5 rom to F1 to I3, all of the time the end button works, I did however, before using wm5, tried the first leaked and had problem with it (which is why I went back to wm5). But after that, it's fine, I can lock by holding down end key

Also, the reception seems to be better as well.

Posted by: dantan98

Weird... b/c I'm able to lock mine w/ the Red End key. Hrmmmm...

Versions...
PDA - i607UCGI3
Phone - i607UCGF1
H/W - REV0.0
Eboot - i607UCGF1

I don't know where to pull Radio Version and Running Build from.

I did notice that once, my End key stopped functioning and was trying to send an s and an Æ keypress at once. When I went to the home screen both of these were being put into the dialer (odd). A reboot fixed it though.

Posted by: MDIFILM

could i607UCGB4 be the reason why some of you have problem locking?

Posted by: jeter0490

Quote:

no that can't be the reason because i have i607UCGB4 and i can lock my phone

Posted by: Da_G

This is an Alpha cooked ROM. It might kill your cat, so don't use it. But if you do, post any bugs you find other than the jumbled start menu here! Note that app unlock is not necessary in this version as all security has been removed. Please re-read the instructions.txt, the flashing process has changed slightly.

Things I could not get working in WM6:
Samsung Style Dialer
Right Soft Key changing
ICS (partial)

Changes:
Bluetooth OBEX FTP profile added
Fully unlocked (no security restrictions, except java)
Startup/Shutdown anim+sounds gone (maybe we should replace this with something, it sort of looks like the phone is frozen during startup/shutdown, even though its not)
ICS is ported over from WM5, but still has 'the problem'..
dialer image shamelessly yoinked from i607.org
Version number is a little different.. :P

Those of you having problems with the Bluetooh Audio Gateway and initiating voice command from the headset, take a look at this key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Au dioGateway]
"BRSF"=dword:21

There's a little note by that that reads " ; voice recognition disable"....

Dan_G and others - the problem is with the SmartToolkit - when it's installed, it disables the End Call button function for locking the phone.

I actually removed it JUST because of this. I think there was another post that said you could use the "back button" (sideways "U") and then "4", but to me, that's still too much trouble. (yes I know, whine whine whine)

Once it was removed, the "End Call" button lock works as normal.

Posted by: herbaliser

so the carousel theme didn't make it daG? did you try the directx thing today or were you busy with wm5 features?

Posted by: Da_G

Wasn't trying to import anything from i600 for that rom, just make room for it while not breaking anything.

That's what i'm doing now, actually

Posted by: p1tater

for some reason i cant sync with my pc now and it says i cant install windows search or yahoo go. my pc wont recognize it at all and i have 4.5

Posted by: herbaliser

Nice daG let us know if you get it running.

p1tater is your phone unlocked? Do any other installs work?

Posted by: p1tater

i thought it was - everything was working on the last rom da_g let out

Posted by: herbaliser

after you install a new rom you need to unlock it. Go to txcaesar's page and download the app unlock.

Posted by: p1tater

kinda hard to do when i cant sync with my pc

Posted by: p1tater

according to da_g he got rid of the security and u didnt have to do that i thought

Posted by: herbaliser

oh you installed the newest one? I cant help you there, i don't have an xp pc regularly. Im waiting on the i600 stuff for my next update.

Posted by: Da_G

Hmm, let me test syncing real quick (didnt test that)

It shouldn't need to be app unlocked. What's the PDA version read? Please be a little more verbose. When you say "it says i can't..." what does it say exactly? What exactly are you trying to do when it gives you that error? Install from a cab on an SD Card? Install from the PC over activesync? Install from the 'net through internet explorer?... etc

Posted by: p1tater

it said install was unsuccessful - i tried to install to device and storage card - it said the same things b4 i app unlocked with the previous rom. i was installing from a cab file on my storage card. I also agree w/ you on the "looking like it is freezing when u boot it or shut it down. getting the pda version now

Posted by: Da_G

And what does it say when you try and sync? What version does it read for PDA?

Posted by: p1tater

doing a hard boot. get the pda version in just a sec. I also reinstalled active sync to make sure that wasnt the problem

Posted by: CocheseUGA

Try downgrading AS to 4.2. It should be on your AT&T disc.

Posted by: JDyn84

One question, for the later radio releases, is anything improved?

Also, I used the beta 2 of the rom to flash initially, then I used the 3rd rom release to flash.

Posted by: p1tater

nice one
pda i607UCGI3-Da_G

lol

Posted by: Da_G

Alright, just wanted to make sure that was the ver you're running.. I probably broke something along the way.. i'd advise flashing back to the original UCGI3 for now while I figure out what broke.

Posted by: p1tater

it just sync'ed. It must have been my version of AS 4.5. Tried to install again and it says, "Installation of LiveSearch.cab was unsuccessful"

Posted by: genodillon

I know the Blackjack has GPS for emergencies, but is it possible to open this up and be able to use it for the tracking feature in Google Maps? All I get is "Seeking GPS satellites (0)..." when I select "Show My Location".

Not a big deal, just a cool feature if it's available.

Thanks!

Posted by: Da_G

The blackjack does not have GPS, at all. Emergencies either :O

Yeah, syncing tests out fine here. Installation of apps is verified as broken though, duno how I messed that up. Gonna pull the build from the site for now until I can upload a fixed one.

Posted by: p1tater

i did an app unlock and it still says the install was unsuccessful to device and storage card.

sorry to be the party pooper.

Posted by: genodillon

Ok, thanks DA_G! Samsung told me it was locked down and was only used with 911 calls to locate the caller. Not important and in a lot of ways better.

Thanks!

Posted by: dantan98

More than likely, they utilize the GPRS triangulation for that. Speaking of which... has ANYONE gotten tinygps to work ever? It's not a true GPS app, but it lets you determine what tower you're tethered to in order to allow you to switch profiles based on which tower you're on (such as if you're on tower XYZ when you're at work, switch to a silent or vibration profile automatically).

When I tried to run this, it showed a license screen, but it was incomplete and there was no means of accepting the license. =-/

It's a pay application, but the trial won't work and they won't respond to emails regarding the issue. I won't buy an app unless I either 1. get good customer service experience, which lets me know they care or 2. get a good review from someone about it.

Posted by: Da_G

Yea, dont worry not a party pooper, the faster bugs get figured out and fixed the better. If security profiles are the only thing i've got to worry about, i'm doing good

Posted by: ErylFlynn

Is this only on the de-branding one? Does the other ROM work ok for security? I did the debranding one and can't do squat. If the other works I will flash it on, if not just want to know if I should go back to the old WM6 or will it be up tonight?

anyone get anywhere with this yet? i have a BT8010 and it still seems to have the same voice commander issues. I have the new pda rom that da_g released, but the older beta1 boot and phone roms. I was going to upgrade to the beta2 roms and reupdate to the newest pda rom. where did you see that note on the reg key? i found the enty, and mine is also set to 21 hex. But i dont kno what to change it to to try to enable commander to work.

Only on the debranded one. Turns out I put a 2 where I shouldve put a 1, whoops!

The original UCGI3 is fine.

cosmicc: the note's in the registry deployment files along with the rest of the customizations samsung did. It doesnt say what value re-enables it, nor does it say why it's disabled, or anything else. If it did I would've just told you how to fix it.. I don't have a BT headset so that's gonna be up to someone else.

Posted by: cosmicc

i understand. but any idea on what brsf may mean, or what the decimal 33 value may represent? ill start looking into getting this working since its what i need working the most :/

Posted by: Vapor03

Well, I have attempted to hold out for a WM6 release from AT&T as long as I could, but Da_G, all your hard woark has convinced me to go ahead and try one of your ROM's. You have done a lot for everyone here at HOFO and those others that find this. Thanks!

Now the bad news. Hopefully this is just limited to me, but I tried your UCGI3_Alpha_Debrand and although it loaded fine, I was unable to make and data connections. I toyed with the settings for a while, but did not get anywhere. I flashed to your original UDGI3 ROM and was able to connect immediately.

Now, going off of memory here, I remember in the GPRS/Connection settings that there was a "2" in, what I thought was the DNS settings. Now going back and looking at the settings, I see the "Authentication" setting (set for CHAP) which I don't recall seeing before.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks and note an "issue" that I noticed.

THANKS!

No, that's not in the cooked rom, it should be in the normal one, interesting.

The data settings must be a side effect of the screwed up security profile, i'm replicating that behavior, thanks for the report.

Da_G,

Thanks a ton man. Using UCGI3 I can not pair with my car. I have a Pioneer Nav unit with the BT module.

Funny thing is BT Audio works fine while Handsfree doesn't. Anyone else had this issue? My Moto H700 works fine.

Might wanna try fiddling with that key I posted a bit back. I'm not gonna be much help for issues like that because I don't have something to test with..

Anyone here reading this with a Blackjack that still has the original (or rebranded WM5 running).

I would like to see what the value of this key is on WM5 (i could flash mine back but would rather someone just tell me what theirs is set to).

http://doc.trolltech.com/qtopia4.2/...landstatus.html

With WM5 my pioneer nav unit worked and this BRSF is a value passed back and forth between the phone and the headset to figure out what each device is capable of doing.

I found this site which describes shortly what the value stands for but i'm not following it 100% if someone can tell me what the WM5 had set it would be great.

another key in there i'm interested in is a dword called Capability.

so i'm looking for

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/AudioGateway

BRSF = ?
Capability =?

from a blackjack running the original or rebranded rom.

Actually, a full dump of HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth

would be good.

im reading the same stuff you are matt.

look at this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/arc...p/t-239612.html

i read alot about deleting the handfree profile

Posted by: mts2205

any ideas how to get ICS to work on WM6

Posted by: shansmi

found the BSRF stuf here in using Google...

http://doc.trolltech.com/qtopia4.2/...landstatus.html

still reading all the info...the value seems to be in a reserved range....

the easiest thing to do besides trial and erros is to look in a MW6 ROM that is working with Voice Command at these same keys....anyone got a TMO Wing? or a Tilt? we can copy the keys and see what happens...

I looked at mine and BSRF is 33 not 21 but I had VC 1.6 US installed but removed it....

33 is the decimal value, 21 is the hex value.

Da_G i was thinkiing this was going to be line a binary string...

or 00100001 (or 33 in binary) with each bit being on or off based on the corresponding feature.

I don't get how the 33 could be unique cause i think you could get 33 by having different combinations of numbers.

ie say the number was 10.

how would you know that it was 10 because i had 6+4 versus it being 10 because i had 3+7? (am i making any sense here?).

What does Bluetooth OBEX FTP profile do?

Posted by: rwertz14

has anyone had problems with setting up a partnership with Vista after installing I3. I cannot get my Vista PC to see my blackjack after installing I3. Any ideas?

Posted by: Da_G

mattjack: err yeah you are, I wasnt even paying attention to the numbers when I was looking, i think you must be right.. stupid security giving me a headache :X

Bluetooth OBEX FTP allows you to view a specified folder in the device from another device, i.e. a laptop or a pda or desktop.. so you can copy files directly in and out, vs. OBEX Push where you are sending files one at a time from one device to another.

There are way to many pages on howard forums to figure some of this out. And I read all 66 pages(Actually skimmed every post, but still confused)

I upgraded to BlackJack i607 UCGI3(no issues), now there is a BlackJack i607 UCGI3_Alpha_Debrand. What is the difference?

For ICS.... I found this link.. does this not work on BJ WM6?

http://blog.enrii.com/2007/09/22/in...-6-to-computer/

Here the steps on how I finally did it using the USB cable way:

1. On your PDA, tap Start > Programs > Internet Sharing.
2. Select "USB" for "PC Connection"
3. For "Network Connection", choose the one that you will use to connect to your 3G from PDA. For my case, I'm using "Maxis Internet".
4. Tap "Connect". The PDA will attempt to connect to the USB, then to the internet using 3G.
5. Then, at your laptop, you will see a network connection, just like another LAN connection that you have.

That's it! You should be able to access the internet by now.

To share a connection with bluetooth has almost the same steps, except that you will need to create partnership between your laptop with your PDA first

Thanks for trying, but the ROM of WM6 for BJ were using is missing the dll and exe for the ICS, so thats why its not working right now...

I have been reading off and on, but I know everybody is doing the rom flashing using XP machines, has anybody tried this on a vista machine?? it would be nice to be able to do everything with my laptop and not have to go to my office to do all of this stuff when I am supposed to be working...

Posted by: JDyn84

Does anyone have the mobile favorite for checking your wireless account? I use that extensively to make sure I'm staying within my txt message range, and also to keep account of how many minutes I'm using a month.

I had it in WM5, lost it in the WM6 upgrade.

Its quite a painless install as long as you do everything exactly how it says to in the instructions. You MUST have activesync installed in order to be able to kill the process, this hasn't been noted much but it definitely happened to me.

It has been tried on vista and does not work, apparently its a problem with the vista modem drivers and the ones the installer uses. I'd just get on an xp machine because even if it did work on vista it wouldn't be nearly as safe when it comes to installing a rom on your phone.

Just got back today and loaded the rom from my XP machine. Sweet. 15 minutes and I was multi tasking.

I tried to make it work on Vista but no go. But, XP, no problem. I cant wait to see what the diff from the first leaked rom.

I think you'll be surprised by how stable it is parson. DaG is basically replacing samsung for us, he has an updated build every few days.

Posted by: jimmythebrit

Anyone know why ICS was not included for the BJ platform? Seems like basic stuff.. esp. with it being in WM5

Posted by: herbaliser

i thought it was included in wm5?

AT&T is very restrictive about things like that.

Posted by: Da_G

AT&T removed it.

Great to hear!

I cant wait for the cooked version. Da G deserves massive props. I just cant beleive AT&T is wasting so much time.

The fact that we have a stable useful rom should be embarrasing to them.

I can't seem to find BandSel.exe any where on the new rom install. I loved that short cut for going back and forth between 3G and GSM.

Posted by: player911

Does anyone know if the java memory leak has been fixed.

You can tell by opening up task manager on a new boot... jot the free memory. Then load java and exit java.

Now load task manager again. Usually even after completely removing everything, you still have 10mb floating in space somewhere.

[EDIT] Yea just tested. 20mb going in... 29mb now. That means 9mb is being sucked up somewhere and not being released back. Crappy.

Didn't know about bandsel.exe

Try this though

*#1546792*#

press
3 (network & call settings)

then press
5 (network mode)

select GSM or WCDMA

Bandsel.exe and AdminSettings.exe are still in the Windows Folder.
When you explore the phone via AS, go to Tools - Folder Options - View and check "Show Hidden Files" and uncheck "Hide Protected OS Files".

lol... I just read the last 30 pages and now that I got back to this one I saw your post... thanks for the reply, you saved me the trouble of tryin' it on my laptop and it not working...

I'm not sure if da_g might be able to work/fix an issue like that, but it would be awesome if he was able to, seeing that vista seems to be the future as microsoft says...

I think its up to microsoft to fix that. DaG tried to fix it the first day he uploaded i3, 2 times actually. From what it looks like its a device specific problem or something.

It would take just as long to fix it on vista as it would for him to make us all this other cool stuff. I too only have vista at home, and yes it is a bit of a pain not to install from there. The good side is that it doesn't take very long and can be done while multitasking, though i didn't even touch the computer while mine updated.

DaG i sent you the new startup/shutdown pics, let me know if you want anything changed.

Posted by: Da_G

Yea I snagged em. Fighting with the registry right now, its the reason things stopped working in the cooked rom I uploaded, i'm using microsoft's own registry editing tools and they arent compiling it back together properly, argh :P

I am really happy with WM6 so far - if I could pour this beer down the cable to you guys I would!

I have a question: My main reason for WM6 was for push email for Hotmail. But I cant get it working :-( Has anybody got any clues??

Posted by: herbaliser

are the sizes better? that was my main concern and i can compress them more and make them way better for your final cooked rom.

Posted by: Da_G

Seeing as the originals are like 2.5mb, yeah. lol

Posted by: herbaliser

another silly question that I haven't really seen answered... once I flash my phone on an xp machine I would be able to do the rest with my vista laptop, or am I going to have to do everything with my work computer running xp?

Only the flashing process (~10 min) needs to be done on XP.

I used an XP maching to load WM6, when I put it back on my Vista machine to sync it with outlook, Windows Mobile Device Center does not see the device. When I go into Device Manager it show it as "other device MITS USB RNDIS". When I try to reinstall the drivers it says device is not configured properly. Anyone else seeing this problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I've previously mentioned I had similar problems (jsut saying this again for another reason).
I main reason for origianlyl wanting WM6 was the "hope" that this would allow me to sync with Vista (especially since I've just finished upgrading all of my home computer to it!)

Fom what I've seen, It's a hit or miss if you can get it to work properly (still can't get an honest answer from MS why this doesn't work. WMDC is "suppose" to be the new ActiveSync - if so, why doesn't it work!)

I'm now waiting for word on the BJII to see if IT might actually work with Vista. Sniff, gonna mis the old phone if it does.

ok, I got this working with Vista again. It took a series of reboots on blackjack and computer to work, so in case anyone runs into this problem with Vista, I disconnected phone from Vista machine and power cycled. Rebooted PC and while it was in the process of rebooting reconnected phone. PC found new hardware and reloaded all the correct drivers and it worked again with Windows Mobile Device Center. I am loving WM6, great job everyone who worked on this latest rom.

I am on the Debrand and I can no longer use the internet/synch to exchange. UCGI3 worked 100% on the internet/Exchange.

Many have speculated (and I tend to agree) that AT&T is dragging their @$$ on this due to a Marketing strategy. Allow new WM6 devices to be introduced into the marketplace first, let them mature. THEN worry about updating older devices. It makes sense from a money-making perspective. They're not getting any more cash from those of us with older devices. It sucks that it's this way, but welcome to Capitalism...

Thank GOD there are people like Integra and Da_g who can take the time to help out the community like this!! If there was some kind of Wired or PPCMag award for community contribution, I would DEFINITELY nominate them for it. ;-]

I also made the jump to WM6 yesterday thanks to the wonderful work that has been done here!!
I successfully flashed in steps from B4 -> D2 -> F1 -> I3. My initial B4 - F1 flash did not work as only the PDA ROM was updated and the Phone stayed at B4.
I in particular like the BT fixes! Automatic switching between devices works now and it even uploads the phonebook to my Audi!!
Thanks to all involved making this work!!

Has anyone noticed if any of the Radio updates actually improves reception?

I'm running the initial radio that came with the first WM6 version (D2). I didn't have any reception problems. The newer F1 I've heard mixed feelings about.

Newer isn't always best, but you would think it would be.

If you upgrade your radio, let us know how you like it.
