Blackjack WM6 update on At&t forums!!!

I was looking for in-building comparisons. I have almost zero reception at school, but I think that's a function of the internal antenna and the 1900MHz band.

If I upgrade, I won't be able to have any comparisons until next week, and those may not be accurate. Is there any graphical or digital wat to measure signal strength besides the bars at the top?

Well it depends on what radio you currently have. If you have the original B4 radio, then you'll see huge benefits. The last WM5 ROM and the first WM6 ROM both have great radios (WM6's being better).

Normally I would just upgrade to F1 then I3... but I heard mixed feelings. Plus don't fix something that ain't broke.

If your having reception problems... maybe thats the perfect time to test. see if any firmware will give you reception.

Where I work, I had no reception. With WM6 D2, I now get enough reception to send/recieve VM and SMS. Hey, beats a blank!

Yes, I have the GB4 versions of everything. I've only app unlocked it since I bought it in June.

Guess that settles it, I'll be experimenting with it tonight.

I'm glad you asked about the Radio since that was my main concern with this release (even though it really didn't include a Radio update). I like interface improvments but this phone has been KILLING me with it poor reception...

When I bought the phone it had i607UCFJE. Reception was great, no problems at all.

Upgraded to i607UCGB4 when it came out and was VERY dissapointed. Constant dropped calls and the phone wouldn't work in spots that it had before. Tried to go back to i607UCFJE only to find out you couldn't get it anywhere. I am still convinced AT&T tweaked something with the power settings of the radio to compensate for the poor battery life that everyone was complaining about. I have been putting up with this version till 2 days ago...

Now using i607UCGF1 w/ CGI3 PDA and all is great. I'm placing calls where I wouldn't even attempt to before. I know I'm not dreaming about the improvment in service. I'm glad I didn't get rid of this phone now...

I'm having a problem getting the Alpha Debrand rom to download... Every time I try, I get the following:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@dan.omefilms.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Alpha debrand version was pulled. No ability to install 3rd party progs.


Anyone able to tell me if I need to update my phone and radio versions?
Im running the I3 rom. I started with B4 for everything. After flashing D2, then F1 and now I3, my phone and radio is still B4. Anyone with any ideas?

you should be ok... I am running the middle WM6 ROM with the PDA updated to the third ... no problems...others are running the AT&T WM5 ROM updated with the PDA updated to the third...several others are running the first WM6 ROM with the PDA updated to the 3rd ROM... no problems to speak of with any of those combo's ....

Really? F1 is good for you? I found that the April beta (D2) was the best for me. I tried a combo of F1-I3 and that sux, B4-I3 (using that now) and that also sux, gotta use my BT headset and put the phone down because it's no signal. I'm in a GSM850 area aslo. Using B4-I3 i notice the Debug Screen info doesn't say GSM850 1900 anymore, it now says GSM or PCS1900 or WDCMA (at work) I'm going back to my D2 radio and I3 PDA.

Hi All,

Someone asked earlier if they could automate registry changes after upgrading ROM's. I have not actually done this on my phone but I have in WinXP...either way the answer is still yes. Below is a method to accomplish this task.

On WM, use the free RegEdit.exe program and go to any key you are interested in changing. Under menu choose export and save off the key naming it accordingly. Use MS AS to copy it to a PC then edit the file with using Notepad on the PC. Delete all the all the keys that you are not changing but leave the first few lines in that file that define the registry version and exact path to the key itself. Now do a "save as" naming it again accordingly....

Now change the key values to the desired value and just save the file. Now you can use MS AS again to copy the file preferrably over to the phones SD card in a RegEdits Folder (this way you can do them again quickly if you hard reset or re-ROM your phone - also do something similar on your SD card for CAB files i.e. a CAB Files folder).

At this point you can use the File Explorer on the phone to locate and execute the registry changes. Of course you need to application unlock the phone as some registry changes will revert on reset/reboot if the phone is not application unlocked.

As I mentioned several pages earlier, my reception is dramatically increased.

I had wm5 that came with the Bj, then I upgraded to the first leaked rom (big mistake) and reverted back to wm5 upgrade, then I went and flashed to F1 and then to CGI3 no problem at all, everything seems to be working (other than ICS or trying to connect with my laptop via modem - my laptop doesn't allow me to set a dial-up network...).

Has anyone noticed that they removed the "meeting" profile from this ROM? I upgraded straight from the stock WM5, which had this feature and used it as part of the "automatic" setting.

Is there an easy hack to add profiles?

Actually, on my original ROM, meeting was set with no ring but very quiet tones for messages or reminders, which was a lot nicer than the vibration (which is amazingly loud)! I liked having two choices... there just seems to be one fewer profile in this version.

Can anybody point me in the right direction. WML appears to be missing so I cant use push hotmail. I was using consilient on WM5 but used the WM6 ROM in the hope I could use the functionality thats supposed to be built into WM6......

Has anybody got any ideas please?

my right soft key is being strange- for one press it enters "s" and to lock it enters "sAE" but the ae is crazy. restarting fixes this, but does anyone know what it does? also my contacts seems to be the same as wm5 except for the recent calls per person

few questions with the "cooked" version wm6 1) is the right soft key changable 2) is there still a 300kb ringtone size limit 3) hot battery issues? 4) is the mystery memory leak still there? 5) does the end call button work correctly now? thats all i have for now

This is a function of the Smart Toolkit. Remove (or stop it) and the end call key will work as normal.

I was also surprised to find WML missing --- I thought it was standard in WM6. Anyway, I found the standalone WML app floating around for WM5 and it works great. Not sure if it's a beta or not.

The UCGI3 is the latest. The de-branded version did not allow 3rd party programs. Thats the last I heard anyways. I could be wrong though.

ok, I am having an issue with unlocking my phone. I locked my phone with STKtoolkit and when I press the * button it will not unlock my phone. Any suggestions????

I have put up a post in the HTC forums to get the entire BT stack exported from a WM6 Tilt. Hopefully this will gives ideas on what to do in order to get Voice Dialing over BT working on our Bjacks in WM6.

Unlocking the phone is working for me just fine. I have noticed SKT overrides the use of the "end" key to lock the phone when setup on a timer to lock the phone.

Exact same issue happened to me, but I have no clue what put it in that state. Restart also fixed it. I haven't seen it since.

I don't know if anyone else has gotten this issue with ucgi3 but sometimes the end key will not work correctly and put 's' character on the screen, a reset fixes it.

LOL...look up a few posts. It's caused by SmartToolkit. I have now come to realize that I did have it installed when I experienced it. I don't use it anymore, so that's why I haven't seen it since. =-]

flashed my successfully, been using it for a few days now and loving it. Bit better battery life too. Only issue I'm having now is activesync via bluetooth. Anyone share similar issues?

finally got to flash my phone around noon today and get on here and see the latest... so far everything on my phone is working great, when I first flashed to f1 a couple days ago my battery life was horrible, my phone didn't even make it half the day... this time, after I flashed, made sure to power cycle my phone and it was been working fine, just gotta pair it up with my BT headset and see how well that works now...

Restart your PC and hard reset the BJ. Flash all the way back to B4. Do another hard reset and reboot. Now, flash to D2 first and see what happens with the phone ROM. I also killed ActiveSync, disconnected internet access, killed all programs like spysweeper, Aniti-virus, etc. so that basically only the updater would run.
The first flash from B4 to F1 did not flash my phone ROM either. After doing the above, it worked every step of way to I3 PDA ROM with F1 Phone ROM.

I did the same thing and my phone went to D2. That includes an update yesterday to UCGI3.

Maybe in order, do the WM5 rebrand, then UCGD2?

The phone part of the updater will only flash if the phone is able to successfully reconnect itself to the computer after the PDA part flashes. Sometimes this reconnection does not occur and you don't get the phone part. Don't yet know why this happens, but I see this behavior in XP x64.

For now there is only one version, UCGI3. So I think that counts as a concensus version

I will create a new thread for the alpha debrand when I eventually get it working. I'm trying to work out bugs in Microsoft's registry tools for now, even just decompiling and recompiling without modification yields errors.. lol

I dont think its hidden, but you may want to change your settings to view...are you using PC's Explorer to browse the mobile window directory?

i downloaded the gm-generic (gmail app). i downloaded j9 and i copied both to my docs. Then it says to copy the tahoma and tahomabd file from windows/fonts to blackjack's windows/fonts. However i can't find the windows/font on my blackjack. its just not there. for now i just posted the the fonts in my document. i tried installing the gmail app with midlet but it is asking for a url. i have no idea what to put in there

after you have installed the J9, click on the gmail.jar and it will appear in the J9 window...Im not sure how to help you find the folder for fonts on your phone.

i dont think da_g had a chance to port over the samsung voice command soft from i600 yet and the microsoft voice command is a payware software package so i dont think anyone wants to post it to pirate/warez it...

That's exactly what happend in my case. It disconnected after PDA part was done and never reconnected for the rest (going from B2 to F1).

I have Voice Command 1.6 and there is problems with it I think. I recently broke my bluetooth headset so don't have one to try with it right now.

As for using just the handset, giving commands works, but it will not announce calls or events for some reason. It worked find in WM5, but now it's not working.

BTW, is anyone having problems with Windows Live for WM? With what I believe is the newest version, I receive an error on every boot saying it doesn't have network connectivity. And sometimes I can't even receive my e-mail, even if I try manually.

I had problems with WLM but reverted to the previous version that worked fine.

Version 10.6.33.0600 does not work but V10.6.30.2100 works fine.

Not sure if these are the versions you are talking about.

I have tried searching to no avail and don't really feel like going through the last 60 pages looking for it... does anybody know how to do it or am I getting my information mixed up with reading multiple forums??

anyone notice T9 working differently w/this new flash...or maybe WM6 in general? It's dumb now...it actually corrects what you type...which I guess some people would like but I only liked it for getting words typed quicker...it corrects me a lot when I know what I'm trying to spell and it corrects wrong.

Oh Yes, I'd be happy to buy it if it worked, especially from the headset. I read somewhere that Voice Command was going to be part of WM6, today I was digging through the Microsoft website as somewhere I saw a side to side comparison between the SmartPhone and the PDA phone but do you think I could find it...

It looks like mine is working now with the F1 flasher -- had to have the flasher file on a local drive, I had originally saved it to a network drive.

The company i work for is a Pioneer dealer. I'm working my way up the chain to try and get with an engineer from pioneer to comment on this.

I dinked with all the reg i could handle last night and decided that what i was doing was getting me no where.

I'll update when i get more info though.

WF -- what does your nav say when you try to connect the blackjack? also what nav and bt module are you using? and what firmware on the BJ?

well, a hard reset works.. tryng to hack my way through Voice Dialing over BT... NEVER install anything from Vito as I have now tried their GPS program and Voice Dialer... neither one remove all the way...and don't install JETware for a BT fix either as apparently they are STILL not using a Microsoft BT stack! I could get colorful but hey at least WE have WM6!

That's the same version I have (10.6.30.2100) and I get an error message on every boot, and every once in a while, I will keep getting errors about no network connectivity. I haven't tried the newer version you mentioned (10.6.33.0600)... do you have a link for it?

Does someone still need the installation for WLM? I have it and can send it if it is still needed.

The later version does not work for me. After you install it and run it, the program does nothing - looks like it is starting but then nothing. But you are free to try it out for yourself. What is your email address? I will send it to you.

BTW V10.6.30.2100 should work. If it does not, uninstall it and reinstall. Do not install over the previous installation. That might do the trick.

The message I get is :Connection Error or Invalid Device. It also doesn't pass the name of the device just Name Not Found or I can see the MAC.

Firmware on the BJ is:
Phone: i607UCGB4 (right now going to move to D2 later today)
PDA: i607UCGI3

The Nav unit is an AVICD3 and I am not sure of the BT module, I have only had the unit 4-5 months if that helps.

when i do a hard reset, it wants to do a format. do i skip or let it format. my phone and radio is still B4, eboot is F1 and pda is I3. Im trying to update the phone portion. any advice greatly appreciated.

Unless Pioneer has recently started making Windows Mobile devices I'm not sure you're going to get anywhere with them. This isn't a Pioneer issue, it's an issue with the Blackjack. I have a couple of Motorola devices and a Jabra device and I get the same results (or lack of results) on all of them.

Well the performance of the ROM was good for the first day or so, but has anyone seen problems related to the radio at all?

My phone is constantly cycling the radio connection, going from "E" to "G" sometimes, and now it keeps switching from "E" to the "funnel" shaped symbol. I can't access the web at all because of a "The remote party has ended this connection" error, and my Windows Live for WM keeps throwing errors out every 2 minutes.

When I do have a stable data connection, Windows Live syncs but doesn't pull down new messages which is also very annoying.

I can make and receive calls fine, but data is having major issues. I've tried changing the radio from Auto to GSM, etc. but none of it made a difference.

The only things I have installed is Live Search, Voice Command, Windows Live, STK, and omapclock (what's the recommended overclock speed?).

PDA: i607UCGI3
Phone: i607UCGF1
eBoot: i607UCGF1

Anyone have any advice? Should I try reflashing?

I'm using v10.6.0026.1400 and it works decently --- about once a day I get a message saying my session has been disconnected. I hit dismiss and it goes away, but everything continues to work fine. I'd like to try out a newer version though --- would you mind posting a link for v10.6.30.2100? Thanks!

Could be, but it worked fine on WM5. I think this is just a beta issue of the most current WM6 build.

there's a REG thing for that? I always just thought it was part of the ROM. Mine doesn't show HSPDA but i don't mind as much. As long as i'm getting HSPDA speeds then it could say 3G all day long. (now if we could change that 3G to U i'd be much happier )

after using it for a day, here's my first impression

pros:
better looking GUI (colors, icons, etc)
faster (no lag btwn menus)

cons:
uses more memory & battery
can't change right soft key
300kb ringtone limit (hackable)

the pros definitely outweigh the cons, especially since most upgrades generally use more memory/power

i understand there are issues with ICS/bluetooth but i dont use them so for now i give it an 8.5/10. wm5 was a 7/10

I agree with everything you've said, except for the battery life. For whatever strange reason, the battery life actually seems to be better for me. Same email checking options, same number of phone calls, etc, but I'm getting about 20% less per day battery drainage with WM6 over WM5.

I use the standard, slim battery. I power it off and plug it in to charge every night. At the end of the day with WM5 I would normally have 50-60% battery left. With WM6, I'm sitting at 70-80% battery remaining, which seems almost too good to be true.

if so, do i have to start from scratch and

flash to F1, then reflash to I3? or can i just install F1 over the top with I3 already installed

the F1 is a full ROM so it will overwrite everything....install any of the WM5, 1st leaked WM6 or 2nd Leaked WM6 ROMs...they are all full ROMs menaing the update the radio, the eboot and PDA. then upgrade the PDA using the one Da_G built.

I think it might have to do with wm5 being more like xp and wm6 more like vista; i'd expect in the next generation of phones that are eligible for upgrade (to wm7), you would need vista to do it.

So when wm6.1 comes out in feb. will we get that too? maybe Samsung is waiting til then ha

Apparently the CRIA has done something to the demonoid servers, therefore not allowing any traffic. as with any major torrent site, i'd expect it to be back up between the end of today to monday, most likely today. They're probably uploading all the trackers somewhere else right now.

If anyone wants to host some old adventure games along with scummvm, i have all of them (probably 3gb total). there are speech and no speech versions, as well as multiple versions of each game sometimes, so if only the best were uploaded (sam and max, day of the tentacle, full throttle) im sure nobody would complain. every game i have works on the blackjack, save games included. if anyone wants a full list of the choices let me know.

I Used this WML install. AccesingHotmail.

Is it a design feature that WML does not notify you when an email is pushed to the device?? I have to scroll down to the WML portion of the front screen or go to messaging to see.

I would have thought that the the same notification that gets used for any other email would be employed????

You don't want to know my opinion of vista :P I beta tested it since the first build and I had over a dozen major bugs still open when they RTM'ed.. in fact 4 of them are still open now in the SP1 beta.. :P

I think even microsoft realized their mistake with vista, as Windows 7 will be based on a minimal kernel..

Anyway, enough of spouting my opinion. I'm sure no one wants to hear it :P I was not able to modify the flasher to work in vista, it's likely they're tying into some API call that changed in vista, so it just won't work. It's up to samsung to come out with a flasher that works.. Maybe we'll see one with the official UCGI3 release.

i feel like an idiot. i was flashing without using the modem drivers. i had terminated active sync but had not set my phone to modem instead of active sync.

now, after using the modem drivers and setting my phone to modem everything flashed perfectly. now everything is F1 except pda which is now I3.

I just want technical specs/requirements from Pioneer. I'm not expecting them to work around the problem If i can get info from them i'll make (or someone) the blackjack pair with the pioneer.

the WM5 version of the blackjack would pair with the pioneer no you couldn't initiate voice commands through the D3 but you could pair your phone with it and with some pain transfer your phone book.

A note: I found that by changing the COD (class of device)

HKLM/software/microsoft/bluetooth/sys
COD=hex:52020c

i was able to pair the device as a stereo headset. Still no luck with the handsfree though.

Its an issue with the USB driver changes that were made by Microsoft. In addition to changing the requirements for writing USB drivers (Ask anyone responsible for writing MS Device drivers and they will ***** for days about Vista...) MS also chose to deprecate/remove the built in USB Serial device driver that most WM devices used for flashing. On another thread I posted a link with instructions that allows you to temporarily load the USB Serial driver in vista and flash your device. This is the method that most of the XDA and PPCGeeks use to upgrade their HTC phones. It works quite well with the Blackjack.

att decided not to include this feature on blackjack. da_g is trying to figure out how to put that in (among other things) in this next rev of the cooked rom...

Ok, I got it to appear and just installed F1. It reached 100% fine and now there's "Time" on the screen and it keeps changing a 3 digit number rapidly. Should I leave it or should I pull out the battery now and turn the phone back on?

Was at the local AT&T store in Redmond, WA (checking out the Q9h) and the CSR let go a few snippets. I cannot attest to their legitimacy but I thought I'd pass them on:

1) Official BJ WM6 ROM update will be released next week (he was very sure of this and claimed the release date is Nov. 14th per internal ATT communication).

2) BJ2 will be released on or before black friday (Friday after Thanksgiving).

Pull the battery. (And go reread the instructions carefully for flashing that image. Installing the USB driver just sets you up for the installation. At that point you should follow the instructions on how to flash that specific rom. The instructions can (and with the new UCGI3 rom do) differ.

Ok, I'd like to clarify some things. I'd really like to do this upgrade, but not as savvy as some of you here.

I have the downloaded the huge link in red some pages ago, and have directions from Da G that were included.

Now, in order to perform this upgrade, can i simply just go ahead and do it? Or do I need to do an App Unlock first?

I'd like to back up all my data on the phone to my laptop. What is the easiest way to backup everything? From phone only, no sd card.

As long as you already have the correct drivers installed you can run it.

For backup, sync to Outlook via Activesync for contacts and calendar. Copy off any other files you want to save (ringtones, wallpapers mp3s, whatever) via the Explorer command within ActiveSync.

If you can't use Outlook, then I guess try to copy as many contacts as possible to your SIM in order to keep them.

You can copy text messages to your SIM, though how many I am not sure. And with WM6 I haven't yet found a way to display old messages that are stored on the SIM but there is probably a way.

Maybe SMS messages are saved as files somewhere on the unit... if so it is possible one could copy those off via Explorer in Activesync and copy them back after the update. Anyone know?

Latest rumor is WM6 Blackjack update 11/14 and BJII Black Friday (11/23). Source is AT&T Support Forum Member told by store employees hours ago that internal memo just sent out confimring these dates in writing.

It was previously 11/12 for the BJII and 11/19 for the WM6 Blackjack upgrade.

We shall soon see!!!

I spoke to a store manager yesterday who says the bJ2 is launching 11/15. She said the launch new products every 45 days and the 15th is what she has been told for bJ2.

I just hope anytime soon for both the update and the BJ2.

First of all, I thank Da_G for the super job he did... I work for AT&T and believe me, WM6 won't be out months later after BJII release.... Marketing strategies... Same happened with AT&T 8525 and TILT (WM6 came on Tilt 1st, THEEEEEN the Firmware was released for AT&T 8525)

Ok... here's the deal... I have Phone and Eboot UCGB4 and PDA UCGI3 with Windows Live version 10.6.0026.1400 and works like a charm... TXCaesar, if you want it for the benefits of everybody here, I can e-mail it 2u... you tell me... I've seen other posts about this but I checked out the Repository and I couldn't see it...

Has anybody managed to sync using Active Sync 4.5 and the UCG13 WM6? Mine connects successfully, and begins the sync, but never finishes. I left it running all night and it never completed.

Active sync and the phone remain responsive, just the sync never works. I can't say if it worked under WM5 as I flashed the day after I got the phone.

Its driving me crazy, beginning to wonder if its something on the laptop now causing the problem. I went back to WM5 and AS 4.2 and still could not get it to sync.

You're welcome for the Vista Flashing/USB info however I have no link to the i607 site. Its just a nice user editable wiki site that was the easiest place to post the information.

Hmm, the Windows Live executable fails to run, says "Access Denied. The program cannot start because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate"

Anyone else have this problems?

I should also note that with WM5 on the Blackjack, connection to my Pioneer DEH-P980BT only happened if I initiated a call or a call was received, sometimes, not untill after the call was been answered. My Dash running WM6 also did this. Now, the BlackJack with WM6 cooked rom, connects within 20 seconds of turning the radio on, just like My X820 does.

With WM5, my BJ was able to pair with my Pioneer. I can't even do that. So there is no way to make a call, etc. Kind of up a tree if the Pioneer won't make that inital connection.

FTR, I have no problems with my WM5BJ pairing with my Pioneer, but I can not transfer the phone book. I did have to delete my BT headset from the phone, which is no biggie for me since the only time I used it was in the car anyway.

Need some help here I have UCGB4 w/UCGI3 PDA and when I turn on the phone it shows the old WM5 blue image before the annoying splash/jet sound. When I look on Windows folder, there's a PNG file called "ms_splash.png" which is the WM6 blue/green image with the spirals. My question is: where do I go on the Registry in order to change the image from the WM5 to the WM6 one?

Any updates on any work around to get Internet Connection Sharing working with the latest ROM? I had to go back to the WM5 ROM... I tried to move the app files over but it would not work ... I just kept getting "remote party ended connection"

wfj5444, what Pioneer are you using? I have my Pioneer to auto connect, and when I setup the pairing, I initiate it from the handset, I then see I607 appear in the Pioneer connection window. The next step is to save the I607 as Phone1 (other wise when you turn off the Pioneer, the configuration is not saved).

At first when I did this and turned the radio off, then on, I had no sync at all, dinked around with it for 10 minutes or so, still no luck. After I gave up and went shopping, came back after about 30 minutes, turned the car on and boom, the Blackjack auto sync'd to the Pioneer and has been working fine every since.

I have not tried the phone book transfer, with the I320 or Dash, it only worked one at a time sent as Vcard.

My Blackjack has been running fine since the first day, thats good. I did have a signal problem last night, but a reset fixed it. This is on the wm5 stock radio and eboot though so nobody panic.

I'm running F1/I3 and I've had better radio reception and better battery life with this combo. Also seems crisper and more stable. Would recommend the upgrade from previous versions/combos of WM6.

Upgrade to Da_G's WM6 if:
You want the added features of WM6 including...You want improved battery life.
You need tethering but are ok using the USB cable and NOT charging the phone.
You want increased stability and speed with PIE.
You can afford (mentally/monetarily) to possibly brick your phone or void your warranty. I know it's debatable, but the possibility exists that you could fry your phone and be out of luck.
You are comfortable following the directions.

Stick to OEM WM5 if:
You care that the Right Soft Key (RSK) dynamically changes and is assignable.
You require Bluetooth tethering and ICS.
You have lots of 3rd party applications.
You are not ok about using unsupported, hacked, and possibly illegal software. I'm not a lawyer, but there could be some legal issues as to where the WM6 is coming from. I know that Microsoft and XDA-developers have had spats over this from time-to-time.
You do not have access to an Windows XP machine.

As a long-time PocketPC/WindowsMobile user who is comfortable flashing ROMs and such, I strongly perfer Da_G's WM6 ROM to the OEM WM5 even though it does have a couple of shortcomings (RSK & BT DUN for me).
