Microsoft and Samsung both were on the ball. AT&T dropped it. There is no one left to blame. Who knows what they are doing, but I just hope that the final release is good or they'll get an earful. Honestly they are losing lots of money because people are getting tired of waiting and buying unlocked WM6 devices instead of AT&T blackjacks. |

I have been using the beta version of WM6 for a while and it works fine, but the improvements are evolutionary, not revolutionary. I would be interested to know how many people will actually download the upgrade once it is available. I will bet that it is a very mall percentage of users. We are all pretty tech savvy folks here but 99% of the users just want their email and the phone to work. |

There are many aspects to what happened which go beyond the process which you correctly point out, does take time. Most of us understood that already, but there were many failures by ATT and to some extent Samsung and Microsoft in rolling this out, and there is conflict within ATT, as well as with Samsung about this whole thing. Dates were given as were time estimates to the media in Orlando and other places and times by company reps. The lack of a press release is the very last resort the companies use to deny when they mess up and fail, a technique used in the industry often. As I stated, all of the history and factors behind why many of us feel let down by ATT have been discussed in prior threads going back months and it just gets to be too redundant to get into a point-counter-point discussion once again. All I can suggest is you go back and read more of the history, and go to the ATT Support Forums for Samsung and read the entire two main threads, there are supporters, haters, defenders, complainers, and more. All of your points, and others in defense as well as replies and other factors on who said what when etc... are out there in these forums and others. And I have pointed out that to some extent that putting this matter on the priority list low enought to have this happen, was to a large extent due to the fact the Blackjack was marketed to the masses via major TV ads, and when that occurs, those of us who are early adoptors and more into gadgets compared to most, are deemed less of a concern. That is a reality that is out there, but we on this side do not have to like it, and I suppose that is why there are comments made against ATT expressing we don't like it. It just appears, they know we don't like it, but they have higher concerns and thus for dollars sake, they don't care enough.
Its not that your understanding of the general process is wrong, nor is it wrong to point it out, many of us agree that delays into August were probably justified even given the iPhone diversions. There just comes a point where they took too long, and again you have to know more of the entire picture, which it just appears from your recent arrival and posting, you don't seem to have gotten. There is a lot going on as to why this upgrade was delayed so long, its not just as simple as it appears. I think my main point is to express that as one of the Millions of people they targeted in their Multi-Million dollar several month long TV and Print Ads campaign is that I just would prefer that ATT, Samsung and Microsoft all work better together, plan better, and deliver bug fixes, O/S upgrades, improvements, and new applications, all supposed to be part of this upgrade, in a more timely and less frustrating way. I simply hope ATT gets its Act together better in the future or I and I suspect others will look for alternatives. I think ATT knows they could have and should have handled this better, now we have to see if they will continue to act like they don't care, or if they will make an effort to show all of their customers that they will try to do better! |

Plus without ICS... what would be the benefit of purchasing a higher dollar data plan? WM6 is not revolutionary. Its just an upgraded, debugged version of WM5 with a glossy start menu. There are some nice perks like HTML email and higher resolution Internet Explorer. Nothing to really write home about, but they are there. The reason people want an upgrade is because its owed an upgrade. WM5 was the first WM OS to do alot of things and its buggy. Honestly WM6 was supposed to be released as WM5 Second Edition. They only dubbed it WM6 at the last moment. WM7 is where you'll get your major overhaul. |

I do apologize that the WM6 upgrade is not available at this time. AT&T is working with our handset manufacturers that currently supply Windows Mobile 5 devices to possibly upgrade these devices to WM6. At this time no decision has been made. Additional information will be posted to http://business.cingular.com/busine...s/pocket-pc.jsp once more information has been obtained. |

As for flaws, well that's debateable but some people consider the design a "flaw/con" or the fact that it doesn't have a touch screen. The OS is also one so it all depends. There's lots of opinions i could give you and some might mean something to you while you might not give a damn about the others. So best for you is to run down to your nearest cell shop, i'm sure they all have a blackjack you can play with. After that, make up your own mind about the device. The calendaring system is just like the one in Outlook and if you're used to that you'll love it. I'm not sure what's missing but i think it's enough for my needs. WM6 doesn't suck to me but as i said before, some people consider it a "flaw" |

I like having external because: A. It runs on its own battery (mine is 1700mh which runs for 3-4 months) B. Built-in GPS hogs the phones small battery making it almost useless I use my phone enough as it is without trying to run a GPS device off of it. I keep my GPS unit in my car and tap it on whenever I need it. But honestly, if your looking for a device that would best suite a GPS unit... you might want to look into a Touchscreen device. I have a PPC and a Blackjack. Trying to navigate is MUCH easier with a full touch screen of a PocketPC. You might want to look into one of the new HTC devices or an AT&T Tilt. |

As far as the BT stack... well I only hope. Worse case scenerio is that someone removes the stack all together and replaces it with a Widcomm or a MS Stack. We did this on the Dell Axim x51v (well I just did some testing). If the memory is limited, there is probably little that can be done. Windows Mobile supports the higher cards, so its not limited by software. There is lots to be done about the BT Stack though. Samsung made the BT Stack, so should be able to update it and include it. Its their device. |

I'm not really sure the specs of the BJ2. They both run WM6 (as any new device should), so basically it boils down to CPU speed, memory, etc. I like the blackjack because it comes with a special edition java emulator that runs 3D games (where other emulators can't). I haven't heard anything about the MotoQ supporting it. As far as I know its only on the blackjacks. The original blackjack has the standard about of memory and doesn't really require any more. If you happen to max your memory on a blackjack then you have way too many applications open. Of course more doesn't hurt. I think the biggest difference (if there is any) would be the CPU. Currently i believe both devices have a 200mhz processor (in their original versions). While a faster processor isn't needed, again more doesn't hurt. If I was on the fence between the MotoQ and the Blackjack2... I would closely look at size: smaller = palmable / bigger = larger keyboard CPU: more the merrier Memory: more the merrier Wifi or not Honestly 3G is my choice for internet anyway, so wifi is useless to me. I have medium hands and the blackjack's keyboard has good tactile feedback. Again CPU and memory upgrades aren't needed but always welcome. Overall I didn't see any thing special about either one of those devices to make me want to upgrade my original blackjack. I think my next device will be the Samsung i780 (or equivalent). Currently I carry a PPC because of the touchscreen for my GPS apps. If I can get a cell phone that can handle those apps, then I can successfully converge the two and rid my burden of carrying extra equipment. |

it's kinda like blaming dell for not having the latest graphics card drivers... unfortunately for us, for at&t to release another version of firmware for a phone means: customization of software, testing of software, training their people for the software, supporting the software, dealing with upgrade issues/returns...etc etc.... clearly it's easy to see that this introduces time delays and possible headaches for at&t as it's them who release the firmware not microsoft or samsung. it is more of a problem/nuisance for them than it might be worth especially when they get no money out of it and in fact need to put more in. that being said, i'm still hoping they'll release it i'm an optimist... |
