Blackjack WM6 update on At&t forums!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: SHoTTa35

Aww man, what tha? Anyone else notice this?

When you get a call it doesn't show the NUMBER that's also associated with the call? It shows the name and the ringtone plays but mine doesn't show the number.

When you get a call from an number not saved in your phonebook it displays the number but only then.

Posted by: naiku

I find it odd that on ATT website they have an FAQ for resolving an HTML error on a Blackjack using WM6. But there I can't find anywhere to actually get WM6 from ATT to load onto a Blackjack.

Is that maybe only for numbers stored only on the phone?

I have my numbers stored on the sim and just tried calling, it showed both my name and number.

Posted by: herbaliser

tried to install it but i think there was something playing with the pnp. I would put the modem driver on the computer, everything would be fine, then when i would turn the phone off i would lose all drivers from the modem installation except the usb composite device.

Posted by: Da_G

That's correct behavior, the drivers should disappear from device manager when the phone is unplugged and the usb composite device is the only thing that should show up when the phone is plugged in, in flashing mode.. make sure you've killed activesync through ctrl-alt-delete (wcescomm.exe)

I have everything all synced up via Exchange server so they are on the phone, not SIM.

I just noticed it when my friend called me then i called from my work phone (under my bosses name) and then i called from another line (not stored). When i call from the line that's stored in my phone it doesn'ts how the name. It goes

Callers name
Callers company (if present)

Normally it's:

Callers Name
Callers Company (if present)
Callers number (m/h/car/etc)

I'm running the first ROM (april) plus UCGI3. Works great so far, i had UCGF1 on there but i flashed to UCGD2 first then upgraded to UCGI3 to get the better radio (IMO). I wish we could test the UCGI3 Radio but for now we'll just have to use this

I thought the radio wasn't updated in this release??? That's the bogey for me. I'm one of the poor reception people since the rebranding frimware. Does this have a new radio version or not???

Posted by: SHoTTa35

no this doesn't include the radio, this is only the Windows Mobile 6 OS. The Radio (think of it like drivers) is the same from Windows XP (hehe, think of You upgraded to Vista but using XP drivers to run your printer). The Eboot is the BIOS, the Phone is the drivers and PDA is the OS itself. All he did was to upgrade the OS but it's still runing the old BIOS and old drivers.

Posted by: eazymac

Go within Active Sync on your desktop machine to File > Connection Settings... > and uncheck both "Allow USB connections" and "Open ActiveSync when my device connects"

This worked for me thru two different flashes without incident. Just make sure to re-enable these settings once you're done flashing...

Ahh i was looking for activesync, as, msas things like that. my friends bringing his tablet with xp on it over to my house in about an hour, so ill give it another try.

I assumed the computer didn't have activesync on it since it wasn't an obvious process name.

Anyone try and overclock the phone yet with the omapclock software? I followed my ussual method and am able to manually overclock but the shortcut doesn't seem to do anything. On reboot or when I manually run the shortcut my phone remains at 186. Thoughts anyone?

Posted by: shansmi

not sure what is going on with callerID for others but it is working fine for me....numbers and names appear if it is a defined contact it even distinguished m,h,w etc...

Posted by: shansmi

OmapClock works fine but your phone has to be app unlocked.. when launched the first time it should ask if it is ok to proceed and the program will register at that point... I set mine to 252Mhz then quit out and went back in... the default setting of OMC is 132 Mhz but below that it states what the current clock is set to....

I also did a power cycle with a shortcut in the \windows\startup folder to set it to 252....worked fine

I have also placed shortcuts for OmapClock, Admin Setting, Test Mode and RegEdit is the \Windows\Start menu folder ... makes the tools easy to get to and the show up in the MRU....

186 is strange since the default clock from Samsung is 216Mhz...

Phone is app unlocked I think, do you know a way to test if it is app unlocked? I ran the app unlock tool and rebooted my phone.

I made a mistake the default is 180 not 186. Can't figure out what I possibly am doing wrong. I did this on my WM5 and it worked great.

Posted by: shansmi

easy to test... install MS Live Search of Google Maps for WM... if either of those install with no errors other than the security warning about being unsigned, your phone is probably unlocked .... facade is another good application to install....

Thnx for the quick response

I just upgraded my phone (only 2 weeks old) and I am quite pleased with it so far.

I am curious about a couple of things.

1. Do we still need to install the DST update?
2. Do we still need to install the .Net CF update?

You guys rock. Thanks!

Posted by: Da_G

DST is definatly included, it updated my phone automagically
Dunno about .NET CF update, i'll look into it, pretty sure that's included too.

Posted by: dantan98

Awesome...thanks! =-]

Is pretty much broke when it comes to dealing with my Pioneer Avic-D3/CD-BTB200.

I didn't work perfectly with the original WM5 but did work with some coaxing.

With the lastest WM6 there is no joy.

Bluetooth seems to work fine with my Jawbone, there is no "built-in" voice command. Has anyone tried a 3rd party option for voice dialing etc with the latest? does it work through the bluetooth?

-Matt

Why not just install voice command?

Posted by: mattjack

I don't want to cough up 40 dollars...

Is there any reason to belive that it would work on the blackjack now?

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmob...nd/default.mspx

<snip>
Voice Command 1.6 bluetooth functionality does not work properly on the Samsung Blackjack. It is not possible to initiate a voice command interaction using the headset, and it is not possible to receive audio announcements through the headset on this device.
</snip>

Since i seem to have gone backward in bluetooth functionality is there something i have missed that would make us thing that voicecommand will work (properly)?

.NET was there on the june rom and was there also on the latest, I accidently tried to installed it and said the rom has the latest.

As for the Bluetooth voice dialing, I've used Voice Command v1.6 with my Motorola bt820

What I have to do is to press the button to activate the voice dailng and say the name and it will route through the headset to ask if this is the right #/name and to confirm the call... etc.

Reports are that the voice command is working via bluetooth with this newest ROM installed. If purchased it can cost $40 but I am sure there are other ways of aquiring the software.

Posted by: dantan98

I am guessing that the Java Program with this version won't run WM5 applications? I tried installing a game I had from before and it said it was an invalid JAR file.

Should I use a different smartphone as my Model for downloads?

Posted by: bbc581

Came with the Refresh Kit you mentioned Da_G - wasn't sure if you had it already.
http://r*pidshare.com/files/67694117/SecCfgMgr.msi.html

This might assist with some of the other problems we are likely to experience. Perhaps it is possible to create a cab file that will lock everything back down to the original configuration for a un-locked bake?

(attached screencap)

Hope this helps...

P.S. there's also a cabsigntool.exe in there as well.

Posted by: SHoTTa35

the phone doesn't come with voice command, there's no voice dialling as they said. You have to use Microsoft's Voice Command to get that to work.

Posted by: shansmi

Voice Dialing seems to work the same as before... Voice Command works fine on the phone and will xfr call to the BT headset once connected but no dialing or alerts over the headset...

Posted by: bbc581

Here's another mod we may want to integrate into the cooked ROM. Take a look at dc/dc's discovery from a while back. Sorry I didn't post it sooner, I had to dig up the link.

Automatically disconnect data after use, Battery saver!
http://www.modaco.com/content/Samsu...data-after-use/

BTW. The only reason I've included this, is that it seems the built in option under Start | Settings | Connections | Menu | Advanced | Menu | Options was burried deep enough for everyone (including the developers) to forget about it. I have not seen any related discussion, but the "Idle disconnect after: 1 minute" default doesn't do anything for me! Thanks dc/dc for bringing this to my attention!

Posted by: Delta5

Installed the cooked WM6 on my completely stock BJ. Worked like a charm. Awesome improvements. Very quick, especially PIE. I'm lovin' it!

The only problem is the lack of ICS, which has been discussed already. I can get by with the USB-Modem connectivity option for the time being.

But I'm sure that we'll see ICS working sometime soon. I have faith. With ICS over USB and/or Bluetooth, I'll be set. If we can get DUN over Bluetooth too, then I'll be in hog heaven.

to those that have worked on this.

Da_G, you are my hero. Keep up the most-excellent work.

Earlier today people reported that voice dial via the bluetooth was working.

Posted by: Da_G

Bookmarked that 2nd page, ill take a look at it when I get back from setting up my 2nd polling site..

I already incorporated the SecurityOff profile into my cooked rom, im sure I can make a cab to re-lock the device afterward, but i'm just wondering why you'd want to?

There's a voice command program included in the i600 rom, i'll need to dump some things from UCGI3 to make room for it though.. like the startup/shutdown animation and sounds, those are 2.5mb alone :O

Good grief, I'd love to have a ROM without the stupid jet-woosh-takeoff animation & sounds. That + ICS + Bluetooth DUN =

Where can I send pizza to help with your ROM efforts?
Paypal donation?

I second that motion!! screw the pretty gfx if you can get ics + bt dun working...

now not to get greedy but how about carousel? is that a possibility?

da_g left an email addy included in the instructions.txt of the cooked rom running on our phones I'm not gonna post it here in case he doesn't want to...but it's there to anyone who wants to donate as a thank you....

Posted by: Da_G

Sure, i'll take a PayPal Donation I even put a fancy link where you don't need a paypal account. I could use a pizza. :P
I'm copying over my work from my laptop to my desktop.. if I get a chance i'll release a preliminary ROM Kitchen tonight.. but i'm working the elections tomorrow for 18 hours so ill be on my blackjack.. need it working :P

By the by.. I just noticed by chance because I was busy doing something else if you let the ROM flasher sit there it will reboot the BJ by itself.. no need to remove the battery.

Thanks chudy I appreciate it.

This saved me from buying a new Moto Q9h. I'm soooo happy

Yara, thanks for your instructions!!

1) Get a registry editor
2) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Au dioGateway registry key
3) Delete the entire key that is called NoAutoConDevice (there is a setting specific to BMW under this key)

Reboot the phone and it should work.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Deleting that stupid registry key finally allowed me to pair with my BMW '07 328i (non-idrive). Also, this new ROM is working great!! Da_G you Da Man!!

carefull with the GPRS tweak.. it broke Cellular Video (which is back up now - was down for MTC). This is because after the initial download over 1 min goes by so the device detatchs from the network on the data side (no 3G icon over the sig strength meter)....I put mine back to ~GPRS! and all is good. the other parm was already set per the tweak....

************************************************** *******
as far as the BT stuff goes, the i600 has different hardware.. good luck Da_G and again thanks for all the hard work....I have a copy of VC 1.6 US you can use to get things working ...

************************************************** *******
Battery update - mine is now at 50& after about 30 phone calls, 4 or 5 power cycles (none due to problems), turning off/on the headset about 20 times to ensure it connects properly and probably 60MB of data including using the BT GPS with MS Live Search .... pretty dadgum good!

Posted by: Delta5

Putting money where my mouth is.

PayPal funds sent. Enjoy the pizza.

Consider it a small incentive to get ICS working and remove the startup/shutdown animations. I'd be floored if you could figure out BT DUN support as well.

Something I just noticed... In the Settings screen, what happened to the ability to change the right soft button functionality/name? I kept mine on Contacts, but changed the name to "My Minions". ;-]

Not a biggie, but I couldn't find it in the Settings.

Posted by: zeroforhire

DA_G You are awesome! Thanks for all your hard work! Thanks to integra as well...

one question... where can I find an app unlocker that works on WM 6?

Posted by: dantan98

I was just looking for one. I kept getting messages stating that all of my installs were unsuccessful, so I was trying to rule app locking out first.

EDIT: found one here (http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1160147) linked in a post. Worked for me! =-D

By the way, does anyone know how to get rid that annoying Get TeleNav shortcut in the start menu. Appearantly it is a system file and I can't get rid of it!!!

Posted by: mattjack

http://www.i607.org/wiki/doku.php?id=application_unlock

this one worked for me on the latest rom from Da_G

After running this I was able to remove unwated icons in the start menu...

Posted by: chudy2

one way of app unlocking your phone...

http://www.corynielsen.com/modifica...-your-blackjack

Posted by: dizzyraider

Thanks, I was using a different appunlock software that didn't allow me to change system files. Really appreciate it guys

Posted by: zeroforhire

the latest one from DA_G didn't work for me... I went to the compatibility mode and XP service pack 2 wasn't an option for me... hmm.... will try again.]

Nevermind... I had to update to the newest active sync... looks like it worked now

Resco Explorer deleted it without problem AFTER I app unlocked my device.

Sometimes you have to go into properties and untick "read-only" and then it will allow you to delete it.

With Resco Explorer though, its not required... just delete.

I delete all the AT&T crap, then move everything into Apps folder. My start menu only has a few things:
Applications
Games
Office
Settings
Resco Explorer
Internet Explorer
Java

After I install some stuff I'll have added:
MobiBlogr
vTap

(maybe a threaded messaging program)

2) I seem to recall a way to select how much of a message you wanted to download, such as headers only, first 5kb, etc. in WM5 but I cannot seem to locate that in WM6 now. Anyone know where it is?

3) Last, but not least, is there still no good way to search the email in your Inbox?? On my crackberry I can search for someone's name, text in the subject line or message body, etc. to locate a specific email. I would have thought that WM6 would have added this, did it not? Oh and speaking of Blackberry, is there a way to load the Blackberry connect client on WM6 or is it there and I'm not seeing it?

With exchange you simply on the BJ go into folders then "manage folders" and select sync for the sent items folder. then the sent items will be accessible and synced

Posted by: Da_G

Yeah that gprs tweak has a number of side effects, my favorite is that pressing the hangup/lock button drops your data connection instead of taking you to the homescreen...

Interesting... I've been examining various .dll files, related to the Internet Sharing and noticed a reference to an autodial.dll resource within that ipnat.dll file Da_G & LunaC were asking about eons ago. I'm pretty sure I found the ipnat library in the i600_WM6_IS.rar file that was being passed around. The ipnat file is dated 8/28/07 and looks to be 124Kb in size.

Something else I noticed ...there looks to be something to the file size difference possibly. I've tried the following registry keys with no joy: (watchout for the spaces - generated by the tag)

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\intshruiapp] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\intshruiapp\SelectIcon] @="tapres.dll,-14295" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\intshruiapp\DefaultIcon] @="tapres.dll,-14294" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\InternetShari ng] "LastHostConnection"="Bluetooth PAN" "LastCellConnection"="AT&T IMS" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:M SINTERNET_SHARING] "3"=dword:00000000 "1"="IntShrUI.exe" "0"="MSINTERNET_SHARING" "2"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:M SINTERNET_SHARING\Session] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Tcpip\Parms] "IpEnableRouter"=dword:00000000 "IpInitializeRouter"=dword:00000001 "NoIdleIfAdapter"=dword:00000000 "EnableDeadGWDetect"=dword:00000000 "TcpMaxConnectRetransmissions"=dword:00000003 "WINSBroadcastTimeout"=dword:000003e8 "ResolverRetryCount"=dword:00000003 "EnableDHCP"=dword:00000001 "TcpWindowSize"=dword:00008000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnectionSharing] "PublicInterface"="" "PrivateInterface"="" "SetLastDhcpAddrToIEH"=dword:00000001 "DisabledOnBoot"=dword:00000001 "EnableDnsProxy"=dword:00000001 "EnableDhcpAllocator"=dword:00000001 "EnableAddressTranslation"=dword:00000001 "EnablePacketFiltering"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnectionSharing\Driver] "Flags"=dword:00000002 "Index"=dword:00000000 "Prefix"="NAT" "Dll"="ipnat.dll" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BTPAN] "DisplayName"="Bluetooth PAN Driver" "Group"="NDIS" "ImagePath"="btd.dll" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BTPAN\Linkage] "Route"=hex(7):42,00,54,00,50,00,41,00,4e,00,31,00,00,00, 00,00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BTPAN1] "DisplayName"="Bluetooth PAN Driver" "Group"="NDIS" "ImagePath"="btd.dll" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BTPAN1\Parms] "AcceptConnections"=dword:00000002 "AdapterType"="PANU" "BusNumber"=dword:00000000 "BusType"=dword:00000000 "ConnectionTimeout"=dword:00007530 "Description"="Bluetooth PANU service" "FriendlyName"="Personal Ad-hoc Network" "MaxConnections"=dword:00000002 "ProtocolsToBindTo"=hex(7):22,00,4e,00,4f,00,54,00,22,00,2c,00,22,00, 4e,00,44,\ 00,49,00,53,00,55,00,49,00,4f,00,22,00,00,00,00,00 "PublishSdpOnBoot"=dword:00000001 "ServiceId"="{00001115-0000-1000-8000-00805f9b34fb}" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BTPAN1\Parms\TcpIp] "DefaultGateway"=dword:00000000 "EnableDHCP"=dword:00000000 "IpAddress"="192.168.0.1" "SubnetMask"="255.255.255.0" "UseZeroBroadcast"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\PA N] "ActivateOnBoot"=dword:00000001 "Authenticate"=dword:00000001 "Encrypt"=dword:00000001 "InquiryLength"=dword:00000008 "MediaDelay"=dword:000493e0 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\State\Connectivity]

As soon as I select the Connect button, the IntShrUI.exe file cycles through some stuff, greys out the button, then returns back to normal - still Disconnected. I also tried using the RegLoggerSP1_51.zip to capture the Registry access during this, however this seems to be indicating that one of the files it is attempting to use is not of the correct language.

I am still attempting to grab some other tools off my old laptop for this one. As of yet, still unsure as to whether or not a requirement is missing or what. Nevertheless, I am certainly unable to locate it in any of my packages or on the device itself.

Do you think this might be important? Hmm...

Well, I'm not sure if I am the first to report an issue with installing the new rom update, but here it goes. I tried 3 different times to install the new ROM update. Followed the instructions to the letter and I get the Phase 2 Pass prompt. But when I restart the device, ie: remove battery, it boots up the same ROM I had installed which was i607UCGF1. So I guess I'm out of luck.

Installed from stock wm5, no rebranding even. Turns out i needed activesync installed, there wasn't an activesync to kill. Very nice work everyone involved. One thing i noticed though is that maybe installing from wm5 breaks the new contacts thing, as mine is just a huge list like it was on wm5. The linking missed calls feature works though, which is quite strange. all my contacts are on my sim card, could this be it?

This is really Strange. I reloaded the rebranded version i607UCGB4. Then did the rom update again for the i607UCGI3 Version and here is what I get when I check the version installed:

Windows Mobile 6 Standard
CE OS 5.2.1238 (Build 17944.0.3.1)
Radio Version i607UCGB4
RIl Version 2.002

What Gives?

Posted by: Da_G

Note the version you are reading is the radio version. As stated previously, this update is for PDA version only not phone/radio or eboot. There is another place in settings where you can see the separate version numbers.

if you go to settings, version mine shows:

PDA version i607UCGI3

Phone version i607UCGF1

H/W version Rev0.0

Eboot version: i607UCGF1

this is because only the PDA was updated to CGI3 (what DaG gave us) and I had the previous Phone/Eboot of F1.

Is yours showing that?

Posted by: player911

Mine is the same but I updated from D2, so only the PDA is I3

I'm confused. Which version works with Voice Command over bluetooth. I loaded the UCGF1 and tried and it didn't work. I then loaded UCGI3 and it didn't work either. What am I missing?

Posted by: AShankman

in wm5 to get internet sharing:
start>apps>file explorer>windows>internet sharing

is there a quicker way?

Nothing, i think I was lucky when it worked with the F1, but it seems you CAN NOT initiate calls with VC on blackjack when connected to a headset, you can only use the headset when already connected. So it's kinda a dissapointment but oh well.

huh? In WM5 you can just go to the settings area and choose Internet Sharing as it's a feature in WM6 it seems to have been removed. I don't have WM5 anymore but it's in the menus and anything in the menus you can assign a speedial to so you'd just have to assign a number and then press it to launch Internet Sharing.

Anyways, for my thing earlier about the caller id. It seems to only affect people with company names stored in their contacts. Anyone want to confirm that? My contacts have been the same as always but with this ROM whenever i get a call from friends (well people that have jobs hehe) the number they are calling from doesn't show. If they don't have a company it shows.

Here my phone comes, eBay. I think I'll switch to a company that knows what it's doing in regards to bluetooth.

in celebration of dag being so smart with roms and me having no money to give him in return, I made a few backgrounds that blend with the standard themes pretty well i think. Theyre nothing special, but i might make a few 3d ones tomorrow. I included one i found in modaco for the colors, just a darker blue and oranger guava, with BlueLS and HappyLS also from there. the rest are mine.

note* i am not a rapidshare premium user so this will expire eventually.

Just loaded up the rom and it works great.

However...

I synced and backed up all my junk before loading it and now when I load up AS it tells me that a device with the name already exists, and asks me to rename or use a guest account.

Neither option letting me get my contacts and such.

I've tried deleted the partnership but still no dice, any suggestions?

Posted by: dadditude

I had the same problem, and ended up solving it by uninstalling AS and then reinstalling it. There may be an easier way, but I know that worked for me.

Posted by: iceninecynic

Alright, tried it.

It keeps renaming my device a different name, I'm going into connections, bluetooth, and my info to change it back.

Is there a different area where I can change it?

Posted by: dadditude

It did that to me, too. What I did was click cancel when it came up with the different name. Then I disconnected the USB cable and reconnected it and it came up with the name I had given my device.

Is this real? I just read the att forums and they are saying it has not "offically" been released, and with the release that you are speaking of is the ICS that is in WM5 still there and supported? This is crucial for me cuz I connect my laptop and (believe it or not) my xbox 360 to the internet this way and I do not wanna bugger that up. So please tell me is this real and does the ICS work? Someone please help...

Posted by: mattjack

Kirbee, as of now it is the best so far but still no ICS.

If you have to have ICS give Da_G a little more time (and maybe a donation to his paypal) he is working on it.

But I'm sure that we'll see ICS working sometime soon. I have faith. With ICS over USB and/or Bluetooth, I'll be set. If we can get DUN over Bluetooth too, then I'll be in hog heaven.

Da_G, you are my hero. Keep up the most-excellent work.

where is the link to download this cooked wm6?

Posted by: cucamelsmd15

Just checking in (havent been on HoFo in a while).

Flashed this last night, worked perfectly. ATT is pretty pissed that this got leaked, there is a huge thread on it on their forums, and the mods are quickly deleting anything that mentions this being leaked.

Anyway, can anyone confirm for me that voice dialing does NOT work when initiated from the headset using Voice Command? If it doesnt, I wont waste my money...

Posted by: thecableguy

I saw mention of someone trying to install this from vista by running it in XP compatability mode. Has anyone had success with that?

My understanding is it will work if you use Voice Command. There is no built in voice dial software. Da G mentioned that the i600 had it built in and he would at some point see if he could get it to work on the i607.

Posted by: Da_G

No link to the cooked rom yet, still bugs to work out.. and today i'm working the local election for a nice 18 hour day.. so maybe we'll see something tomorrow..

Posted by: MDIFILM

have fun at the election DaG thank you again.

BTW, I think we should make it a sticky some of the stuff you won't find on wm6 leaked roms, since the last 3 pages, same questions being asked over and over again... like ICS, like Voice Command, etc.

Same issues here. I tried both 6.0 and 6.1 to connect. They "connect" but the sync never happens (left my phone connected overnight to check it). I was able tomove files into the phone thoguh and install a couple of programs, so I know it's connected.

Had the same problem with WM5 though.

Oh well, guess I keep the laptop with XP sitting around a little longer.
Might try removing WMDC altogether and re-instaling and see what happens.

any update on how to do this from Vista? I am getting a "device not found" error in the downloader program.

Posted by: Delta5

I deleted my partnership in Vista first, then connected via USB. No other changes as far as drivers go. Popped up with the usual 'new device, want to establish a partnership' routine. Worked exactly as it did with WM5. Both USB and Bluetooth sync are working flawlessly on my Dell 1520 Notebook with Vista Home Premium (built in Dell 355 EDR Bluetooth).

Sorry, that doesn't help much, but it can work in Vista. Much to my surprise, 'Mobile Device Center' in Vista seems to be more stable and less quirky than ActiveSync ever was. Yes, it shocks me too.

And no, I did not use Vista for the ROM flash, as instructed. I used my XP machine.

Vista also automatically installed the Samsung Modem drivers as well when I flipped the BlackJack's USB Connectivity to 'Modem'. It immediately recognized and installed the Samsung Modem. Established a DUN connection with about 3 clicks, and I was online. Worked flawlessly. Good connection speed too (110k in an EDGE area). In other words, ICS is not absolutely necessary to tether. Maybe that's why ICS is dissapearing from WM6 devices? It just might not be needed any longer, at least from a USB-tethering standpoint. The only downside is that it didn't charge the BJ at the same time. I'd still like to see BT PAN ICS working (and BT DUN would be awesome, for my devices that don't support PAN), and of course being able to charge the BJ while tethered would be a nice bonus, but overall I'm extremely impressed with this ROM. Except for the startup/shutdown woosh, My BJ is just about perfect now (except for Gmail's IMAP implementation dropping message bodies ).

The ROM download link is back on page 99. Look for big red letters. Just make sure you understand what you're doing. While the cooked ROM has worked perfectly for me and several others, it is always possible that somehow it will fry (brick) your device. Use extreme caution when installing ROMS, and honestly I'd say only do it if you can accept the fact that you might have a dead device (with no warranty) after the attempt.

Has anyone tried linking their BJ to a TOMTOM via bluetooth. Everytime I try TomTom says it can't find the neccissary software on my phone. I was hopeing it was part of the bluetooth stack problems and would not be fixed but nope. Anyone know if there is a hack to make it work?

Unless your TomTom supports bluetooth PAN (Personal Area Network), no. I believe some of the newer Garmin's do, but I don't think TomTom does yet. I have a TT Go 700, and it will not work with PAN.

Your TomTom needs for the 'internet gateway' device to support the older Bluetooth DUN (Dial Up Networking) profile. I've used both, and once it's working PAN is better from an ease of use standpoint (one click, no config, online). But DUN is better from a compatibility standpoint, as many I-need-internet-over-bluetooth devices don't support PAN yet (many GPS's, Nokia n770/800/810, etc).

It is possible to have DUN in a WM6 machine, but it takes some work. My hacked-WM6-ROM Cingular 8125 has the DUN hacked back into it by the ROM creator. It works perfectly for both DUN and PAN connections, albeit limited to EDGE only speeds.

As far as BT DUN on a BJ, I've explored and tinkered with many options. Registry hacks, copied EXE's, PDAConnect by June Fabrics, hacks on the other device to make it understand PAN, etc. None of it worked to give DUN-only connectivity between my WM5 BJ and (insert device here).

Frankly, if you absolutely require DUN over Bluetooth, I'd give up on the WindowsMobile world and pick up a Samsung Sync off of eBay for <$100. Full 3G, full bluetooth profile including DUN, good reception, decent phone anyway. I have one for this specific purpose.

That's what I was afraid of, Thanks for the explenation. I would love to get the traffic subscription on my TomTom but oh well.

It has amazed me at the explosion of posters to this site since Integra put the rom forth, and Da_g ran it together...BIIIG Kudos to these guys...

My server has now been hit over 36,000 times for downloading this Version of WM6...

I also strongly recommend that those of you that can, donate to Integra and Da_g for the trouble they have put forth on this (not asking for myself as there still has been no charge on the amount of bandwith that has hit my server) as if you newcomers to this thread would see, these two put ALOT of time and effort into this...

Mod, I recommend that a sticky be created at the beginning that explains what this Ver does, and does not as repetitive questions are being asked, causing a bit of havoc on the board. I hope I'm voicing this correctly.

just my 2 cents.

I'm haviing the same troubles...

Posted by: blaugh

Finally, a quick and painless WM6 solution!

Thanks to everyone who helped put this ROM together. It installed in about 5 minutes and is running perfectly...

Posted by: Delta5

I am not an expert by any means, nor do I have anything to do with this ROM, nor do I know how to build ROMS. But I've been around the HTC-dev forums enough to learn that Vista changed the rules in how these devices communicate. Yes there are patches & hacks to make it work, but when you're doing something as delicate as a ROM flash, you want guaranteed stability. I have no problems with Vista (I like it, actually), but the tools for flashing a WM device from Vista are not quite 'ready' yet.

Find an XP machine and do the flash with it, then you can go back to Vista for day-to-day usage.

That's really sad, that vista has been out for a year and the device manufacturers haven't done the work to build compatible software/drivers.

I can't get my contacts to sync back up with Activesync or Mobile Device Center.

I've tried 3 Different computers (1 vista, 2 XP PC's).

So as of right now I can't get my contacts on my phone. Sucky.

As was noted it doesn't work with Vista. You need a XP SP2 machine to work it. There is one untested (by me) option that's here:

http://www.i607.org/wiki/doku.php?i...r_i607_in_vista

You do that and go from there but you are on your own just as much as flashing your phone with this software. If you happen to break it they wont replace it just so you know.

Did you remove partnerships, uninstall AS, reboot, install, reboot then plug it in? I have no problem with Vista's WMDC seeing and syncing my phone but since i use a Exchange server i just use that anyways.

Did it work on WM6 (prior leaks) before? I had an issue where after moving from WM5 to WM6 I couldn't sync contacts. It turned out to be something in one of the contacts records it didn't like... I solved the problem by moving all the contacts into a new folder in Outlook, then moving a few at a time into the main contacts folder so they would copy over to the BJ a few at a time with each re-sync. Using this method I was able to isolate the "bad" contact record. I deleted it and re-created it in Outlook and that fixed the problem... everything transfers to WM6 just fine.

This problem was also showing when I got the Moto Q9m, which runs WM6. When I ran the above method on the BJ, it solved the problem for the Q9m too.

Okay, a bit of help would be appreciated -- I installed the modem drivers, and it detected the phone in modem mode as expected. I reboot the phone in flash mode, and it doesn't find any drivers for it. I pointed it to the folder with the samsung modem drivers, but it says they aren't compatible with this device.

The 'start download' button on the flasher tool never activates.

What am I doing wrong?

(Win XP, i607 with original cingular rom)

ETA: When the phone first powers up while connected to the PC, the PC is looking for a driver for MITS USB RNDIS. If I connect the phone after it's been powered up, in flash mode, it looks for a driver for the samsung i607 instead. Which should it be recognizing as?

You have to put in the CD that came with the machine or install ActiveSync which comes with the SYNC drivers you need. The CDs root folder has the driver for it when in Flash mode. The MITS is the Windows Mobile Sync interface or something. All WM phones have that.

Hey TXCeasar, what i'm expecting is a huge hosting bill at 70MB each might not be much but 70 x 52,000 = like 3TB? Did i do the math wrong on that one? AT&T might as well be planning something and it's probably on the way to you now (you know lawyers don't work weekends or mondays LOL)

Okay, this PC doesn't have activesync. So I need to install activesync before I can do this, but not have activesync running, is that right?

Yeah, well, good. As a paying customer, I'm pissed at AT&T for dragging their feet on this project for almost a year now. How many ship dates have they missed now? Six? If T-Mobile would only put up a half dozen more towers where I live, I'd switch in a heartbeat.

It is utterly pathetic that a couple of guys tinkering around 'in their basement' assembled this almost 100% functional ROM, and a company that made 4.8 billion dollars in profit last year can't figure it out. I understand that there other other pressures here, such as the impending BlackJack2 release, and the fact that AT&T would have to officially support the update, but the situation is ridiculous.

Posted by: SHoTTa35

yeah, ActiveSync will install the driver to install that. The easiest, cleanest way is to use the CD. If i was home i'd post the files from my CD but i don't have it with me.

Posted by: thecableguy

Thanks, I'm using a PC at work since I run vista at home, and dont' have the CD with me. I'll try activesync.

ETA: Seems to be working now. Thanks again!

Posted by: MobileServer

My ROM update was successful and it took about 5 minutes.
Updated only PDA: D2 to I3 using WinXP SP2 machine.

So far so good. I'm having minor problem with it not display 'H' when on HSDPA (D2 ROM used to display it).
Now, it only display either '3G' or 'E.'
Anyone having the same problems?

For the record, I didn't install anything special off of the CD.

I've never even taken the Samsung CD out of the box that my BJ came with. Downloaded ActiveSync 4.5 from Microsoft months ago. I sync daily at work...

Yesterday I just followed the instructions in the ROM. Killed the wcesscomm.exe process, booted the BJ in flash mode, plugged it in, and the updater found it instantly. Found the bin file as instructed, Download button then enabled, clicked, watched the progress bar, saw the exepcted error message, disconnected & pulled the battery, bam, WM6. As others have said, it took 5 minutes.

Posted by: thecableguy

After upgrading the rom, can one restore a previous backup with spritebackup in "ROM Upgrade" restore mode?

I assume that mode is designed to work in this situation, but wasn't sure...

Posted by: alty29

If you have a brand new BJ, what is the full process to get this to work? What do I need on my computer, what do I need on the phone?

Yea I sync'd my contacts with WM6 D2. I only installed I3 over D2. The thing is that I tried this on 3 different PC's. I exported the contact lists and deleted everything. Still errors.

I eventually got my USB SIM card reader, and found a backup (luckily). So I got the contacts on there, but I still want to be able to sync.

I will delete the contacts in outlook and try to sync outlook with my phone. Like you said, there might be an error with my exported contact list (thats is something all 3 PC's were using).

[UPDATE: ActiveSync on my work PC (XP SP2) is giving me this error:
ActiveSync encountered an error on the desktop: 85010014

I'll try to uninstall/reinstall]

Posted by: dantan98

alty...

The process I went through is updating to the Samsung ROM release (UCGB4), then installing UCGF1 and then UCGI3 for the PDA part (all that's included). One of these fine people is hosting these and a link is pretty obvious. ;-]

Here's the link for the Samsung update... http://erms.samsungusa.com/customer...751&AT_ID=83176

Entire process took about 30 minutes from start to full reinstall of apps. =-]

Since i've got some free time (slow election), here's what ive got going on with the cooked rom so far... 3 hours down, 12 to go..
OBEX FTP: 100%
Startup/Shutdown screen+sound nuked: 100%
BT DUN: 80%. can connect, but data will not transfer.
BT PAN: 80%: same issues as DUN
BMW fix: 100%
integrating i600 features: 50%. still gotta port over voice command, text-to-speech, the podcast client, and a few other things. the cardwheel/carousel plugin is being a particular pain.
ROM Kitchen: 50%, maybe ready for a preliminary release tomorrow.

over 50k dls in the first day, awesome!

Anyway, can anyone confirm for me that voice dialing does NOT work when initiated from the headset using Voice Command? If it doesnt, I wont waste my money...

VC is not working for me when initiated from a BT headset with this latest ROM. I've tried this on three different devices with the headset profile and no luck.

I'm feeling optimistic today, and I bet that you'll figure out that last 20% on DUN/PAN. Even if not, fantastic job on nuking the startup/shutdown and the rest of the ROM in general.

carousel theme would be awesome. im sure you've seen the xda thread on cracking it but if you havent i can fetch the link

oh i dont think they ever got it but theres a lot of info on it

Kevad are you running the newest rom? I don't use Good but I've noticed that you do. If you click IM and E-mail there is an icon that says "Get Good" you might want to try that. I tried the windows update feature, nothing.

yup unfortunately the xda thread about the carousel addon was a whole lotta nothing due to lack of tools/rom kitchen available at the time...

the rom kitchen brings new hope to the matter.

FWIW, I tried restoring from a spritebackup using ROM upgrade mode, and it didn't work. Left the home screen non functional, and the start menu not quite right either.

Great job to all you guys. Amazing work. Installed and working except BT activesync is not working, worked well before. Using Toshiba stack in vista machine. Reinstalled WMDC, BT stack, Attempted hard reset and tether with BT, but no use.. Any suggestions?

Well that's NEVER a good idea since the old one was beta so things have changed (the inate nature of beta is change) so yeah,

Posted by: player911

Yea I don't think I can bluetooth sync either. I'm pulling my hair out trying to get it to work, but I keep getting errors.

XP SP2
Activesync 4.5 (fresh reinstall)

It partners up but gives an error on every sync.

Here is a great hack I posted months ago that kinda went under the wire.
http://howardforums.com/showthread....24&page=1&pp=15

This hacks makes "My Documents" = SD Card, and deletes "Storage Folder"

Lots of benefits from doing this such as ringtones, backgrounds, homescreens all running from the SD card.

There are absolutely no negative side effects. I've been using this for months now.

Yeah, I had the same issue. Just ended up wiping the phone and reinstalling everything from scratch. Probably a good idea for me anyway, as I had a lot of stuff installed that I never used.

Posted by: dantan98

One other observation I failed to add until I remembered on my way to get some lunch...

When I got my Blackjack 2 weeks ago, I got on Amazon and got the biggest Micro SD card I could find to make sure I had plenty of storage available, so I grabbed a 6GB card. I couldn't for the longest time figure out what I had to do to get the card recognized by the system. After a few days of digging, I found out that not only does the Blackjack recognize only 2GB, but I had purchased an SDHC card (had no idea at the time), so it's entirely the wrong FORMAT.

After installing these ROMs onto the Blackjack, not only is the memory card recognized and accessible, but... I have access to all 6 GB!!

Happy day indeed!! =-D

Has anyone gotten BT sync to work? I'm ready to pull the trigger on installing, but that's absolutely critical for me.

Posted by: MDIFILM

another interesting thing here, reception seems to be stronger, I do work at a client's office once a week and this office got a restroom that is way inside the center of the building so usually, no service, not even a bar, and this also same with any cell company (we've tested with a bunch).

with wm5, I never had a bar on my phone and can never make any calls or receive one while in the restroom...

Today, while in the restroom, my phone vibrated, it has 1 bar!!!! So I tested it by going to the voicemail and internet, a bit slow because it changed from 3G to E but I got signal.

I think the F1 radio is working well here, so I'm happy

Now just gotta figure out how to do tethering

Bluetooth Activesync is working just fine for me. Worked with OEM WM5. And now working with WM6. Vista Home Premium on a Dell 1520 w/ Dell 355 integrated bluetooth on standard Dell/Microsoft Vista Bluetooth stack. No hacks, no tinkering, just works.

hide your sim contacts by
Start/settings/phone/all calls/call options
checkbox for "Show SIM contacts" still resets after a powercycle

As Usual Player, you are a great help...but question:
"change the value of the string "Folder" to "My documents"" my value data is "Storage card" and the Value name is "Folder" so what do I change?

That's your own thing!

Lunch break. Hard to resist working on the rom some more while im home, but a nap sounds better. LOL.

I was looking at some of the code from the carousel theme, it seems to make some function calls to directx that may be included on i600 but not i607. Maybe if I can port over the display drivers that'll get it flowin'.. that'll be the first thing I try tonight or tomorrow morning. :O By the way, AS over BT is working fine here, XP x64 with bluesoleil stack.

Oh yeah, if anyone gets a chance see if you can find a dumped rom or upgrader .exe or .bin for a WM6 standard phone with operational ICS. Preferably one that's natively english language (i.e. not uk english but american english)

The more functional ICS stacks I get to take a look at, the easier it will be to make ours functional

I think i've got a pretty good idea how to get BT DUN functional, hopefully I get a chance to try it out later tonight.

The carousel thing seems sensible, as for the ics thing, does the dash have ics? i know where one of those roms are.

Just curious, but do you plan to have cab installers for each of these things, or a rom that includes all? I personally would prefer cabs as the carousel theme would be the only thing i could use out of this right now.

Posted by: Da_G

My goal at the end is a ROM Kitchen built on packages. Give it a source ROM, define what to rip out, define what to add, builds your ROM, you spend 5 minutes flashing it, done.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298636

Like that. The packages would automate this process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319970

Making cabs doesn't really fit into that, but if there's enough demand i'd try to make some, or better yet if someone wants to do it, I can give them the files and registry entries neccessary and they can just cab it up.

Posted by: Haligan-Tool

Good job on the Rom. I have downloaded it and will try to install later. I will be setting up a web site to help handle the load if that is ok.

PS

The WM6 ROM created by the user 'mfrazzz' for the 8125/HTC Wizard over on XDA-developers is a work of art, IMHO. It is fantastic, and as far as I'm concerned the guy is a genius.

I'm running it in my 8125, and I can't remember if it has ICS or not, but it doesn't need it for bluetooth tethering as both DUN and PAN are fully functional. I will check tonight. It is definitely WM6 with both PAN and DUN operating as they should. Perhaps there's something in here that would help in getting BT DUN/PAN functioning correctly for the BJ?

Looks great. My only suggestion would be perhaps a brief description of what each link is. For instance, without researching elsewhere one wouldn't know what UCGD2 vs UCGF1 vs UCGI3 means.

This is so very cool! Really, I'm amazed at how much A@# everyone has kicked here getting this thing up and running. I'm not a programmer norcould ever pass myself along as one so I've been REALLY lost on ICS, stacks and other terms thrown around. Are there any instructions on how to load the new ROM? I can get the exe file, but what then?

I've searched for instructions but have not found any in the past threads, is this something ought to be left to more experienced programmers or is this a no brain install?

Thanks in advance.

I rechecked the app unlock. In both wm5 and now wm6 i have had these same problems:

1. cant edit anything in the windows directory
2. cant view windows directory from windows explorer (in both vista and xp)

That so sounds like security settings...I'm researching it tho bro.

Also, when ppl go to my site http://dan.omefilms.com I have a directory and slight explanation of the software there for Windows Mobile

Just downloaded the SmartToolKit from txcaesar. Must Have is an understatement. Not sure how I used my phone before installing it.

Posted by: Kevad007

Regarding Internet Sharing, is the T-Mobile DASH WM6 Standard upgrade available from anyone (it may have required id info before allowing download) if it has ICS working, although an AT&T system like the Pantech Duo or new Moto Q9h sounds like would match better. The only benefit to the DASH ROM would be its out there, downloadable, no one has probably done a dump of the others.

Is the info. in the current available at Samsung WM5 downloadable ROM update i607UCGB4 of any benefit to ICS even though its still WM5?

(I have not upgraded yet, waiting for the still cooking one and to see if ICS can be solved)

yea....it's more complicated than that so this would not work...there are some missing components and weird system dependencies that need to be figured out

I've been a big fan of Keylock, which automatically keypad locks my blackjack after a specified time, because I carry it in my pocket. Not sure if the wm5 version will work on wm6 though.

I've searched for instructions but have not found any in the past threads, is this something ought to be left to more experienced programmers or is this a no brain install?

Thanks in advance.

Can anybody clarify putting the BJ in "Flashing mode" as the txt instruction say on the Rom update. I am a bit confused on which key is referred to as "side arrow key" (Are you referring to the D-pad or another key) I am supposed to be hitting along right soft key along with powering on.

thanks,

SmartToolKit gives your blackjack a vista like start menu that is really cool looking. You can also switch between apps easier and take screen shots of your phone. It is the most amazing this ever!

Hey caesar!

About that hack... just change the entry of "Storage Card" to "My Documents"

Then Delete the "My Documents" folder using file explorer.

Power Cycle.

Now you'll have My Documents with a SD card icon, and Storage Card folder will be gone. Now your My Documents folder is linked to your SD Card, which is awesome. 1 less place to keep clean

Posted by: MDIFILM

woot, I wished someone offered to make this movie into a game I was like "sure, but I ain't paying you'

Posted by: senormuerte

decided to take the plunge - downloaded blackjacki607_ucgf1.exe (to update the bootloader since that's what da_man had), put phone into flash mode, and ran the rom update - boot / pda passed, but now phone is stuck on start, with the time cycling like mad...xp came up and asked for drivers for a samsung cdma device, i don't have them, i'm stuck...don't wanna brick my phone, what do i need to do...

the rom updater exe says "waiting for a next image", dunno what it's doing...

I too decided to take the plunge. I first successfully installed the AT&T update off the Samsung site. When I tried to install WM6 it hung up at 40%. The flash program says "TIME OUT. Can't access device" as expected but the phone goes to "[PDA] Send Again2 Time Out" When I pull the battery and reboot I get the Windows Mobile screen and after about 30 seconds it goes black.

WM5 has be re-installed for now.

Any thoughts?

I ended up pulling the plug and rebooting after my issue, and went straight for wm6 - worked fine. i'm now lovin' wm6 on my bj - thanks to all who did it.

Now to get my apps reinstalled - appears that windows live search for mobile won't install, although it doesn't tell me why... (wls.live.com)

You need to install UCGF1 as-is. It'll install all 3 portions. Then, follow the instructions for UCGI3 CAREFULLY. It says that the installer will hang. You're only updating one part of it.

You should be good after that. =-]

uploaded UCGI3 straight from WM5 and everything seems to work perfectly. I'm unable to load apps due to the app lock I think. However, I can't get the app unlock exe to recognize my phone. Could you point me in the right direction. BTW, thanks for all the time spent, and bandwidth sacrificed from txcaesar, and DA_G.

daG have you any news for your progress on the carousel theme and those other things?

Will MS Voice Commands work correctly with your new rom? Thanks for the info.

Posted by: genodillon

Thanks, Da_G for the ROM!

I had a couple of ringtones on WM5 that don't seem to work. one has a MP3-drm extension and the other is a short MP3 but I can't get either to work with WM6. Anyone else have a problem with this or does anyone have a tip for me on how to fix it? I wouldn't normally worry, but I enjoyed having Ball and Chain play when my wife called.

Thanks!

I have tons of mp3 that I am using with it (from wm5 to now) some are from my motorola razr and others that I liked and decided to incorporate. What I did is put them on storage card and then created a folder call My Documents and put all the mp3 that I want to use as ringtone there and it worked. BJ automatically go there to look for additional ringtones for the phone, didn't have to do much.

Not sure if app unlock would also needed to be done to make sure the mp3 files can be used as ringtone?

go back a few pages and you'll get the answer for this most requested and repeated question.

But the answer is what it said at MS VC's site, can not initiate calls via headset with blackjack.

The SmartToolKit has a built in autolocker. I got a change to play with it a little more this evening and am finding it that much more amazing.

I set my autolock to 30 seconds and turned on the screen saver to display a digital clock. Once the autolock happens I have to press the power button to display the time. Anyone know how to keep the time on the display? Not that having to hit the power button to see the time is all that big of a deal.

partial flash culd be caused by a number of reasons, my first guess would be a usb hub.. either way you should be able to reflash it with a different computer to get it up and running again...

herbalizer, there's been no progress as i posted earlier i'm working the elections today, i've been here since 5:30 and wont even start packing up for another hour.. for democracy!
